Transformers Pictures Discussion Thread

Because, compare the two:

http://pwp.netcabo.pt/chaosbringer/transformers/eye.jpg

And the above picture.

It's clearly Optimus' eye and the producers have even said so in the past if anyone wants to look it up.

I never said it wasn't Optimus's eye. I remember the debates and the fact that some people DID NOT want to believe that it was the Autobot symbol...they kept trying to say it was Megatron's head.

Just because in the comic the Autobrand was based on the first Autobot, doesn't mean Optimus is the oldest Autobot.

Or to put it another way, rather than it typifying the oldest autobot, why wouldn't it typify the most noblest of them all instead? The one being that truly sums up what it means to be an Autobot, instead of some throwaway character that no one ultimately cares about?

So why not do the same for the Decepticons? Or are you telling me that Blackout is the best Decepticon?

Again, why the sudden resurgence of "it's G1!" when for the last few months detractors have been saying it has absolutely nothing in common with G1.

Detractors have been saying, why model it after G1 and then make so far from the source material that its almost unrecognizable to G1 fans and people who only remember G1.

You can't have your cake and eat it too.

Oh, as far as the Decepticon symbol?

See my above comment.

If you still think Bay has that much pull (over Spielberg AND Hasbro) I can't help you.

Yeah, Bay has zero power AT ALL as a Director.

So is there any resemblence between Megatron and the Decepticon logo?

looks like prime gets decked in the face, megatron turns around and then punches prime in the stomach....HARD! it looks like Prime's about to fly backwards...hehe

In general, it looks to me like the autobots resemble the autobot logo to a degree, and the decepticons resemble the decepticon logo to a degree. The Autobots have a somewhat humanistic look about them, while the decepticons are very jagged and angular looking.

As to wether or not Optimus Prime looking like Michael Bay was intentional, I would like to think that it was the latter, because I think it's funny. It could be just a coincidence that the nose, mouth, and eyes have the size and position they do. However, like I said earlier, designing a character after the director is nothing new. I personally think that it's funny when stuff like that ends up in movies as easter eggs.

If it is unintentional then I don't have a problem with it and it is a funny coincidence. If it IS intentional then I think its just another way for him to add his mark to this franchise. I don't really condone it for a few reasons:

- Bay didn't want to do this movie in the first place
- He was not a fan to begin with
- He obviously thinks Transformers is nothing but a silly cartoon and wanted to keep his version as far away from that as possible
- He thinks Transformer fans like nothing but "boxy designs"
- Pretty much called fans crybabies

So if it was intentional and originated on his part then I feel it is disrespectful to a franchise that he didn't have that much respect for to slap his face on the most iconic character of the franchise. Lots of people love the character of Optimus Prime, one even so much so to legally change his name to Optimus Prime. If in the Prime redesigns (because we've all seen the original crappy design) Bay said, "Hey, try and make him look like me a little...there's my cameo", then I think its sort of another slap in the face. But hey, to each his own...maybe I'm overreacting.

This is one of the deviations from the source material that I am in complete agreement with. The look of the decepticon symbol never made any sense to me when I was a kid because 99% of the decepticons had heads that didn't resemble its shape in any way. To my knowledge soundwave was the only one who had a similarily shaped head.

I think this controversy is merely a coincidence and another way for the bay haters to attack him. I think it's funny but, even if it really isn't a coincidence it will have no effect my anticipation for July 4th.

That's because it's a logo, of course it wouldn't make sense to you as a kid. Think of it like a tatoo, or a branding. It's not supposed to represent an actual bot, but rather an entire faction.

I guess you misinterpreted what I was saying because unlike the decepticon logo the autobot one made perfect sense to me for obvious reasons.

why should their heads have to look like the symbol? marines' heads don't look like marine tatoos

This is strange logic. I never said their heads have to look like the symbol it just never made any sense to me that 100% of the autobots have heads that look similar to their symbol and 99% of the decepticons have heads that don't resemble the look of their symbol. All I wanted was consistency.

Why does everyone keep saying that Michael Bay didn't want to do TF and never liked TF in the first place? Is there actually documentation of this, or is this just an assumption from fanboys based on the changes he's made?

Anyway, I'm really not insisting that the OP resemblance was or wasn't intentional. But if it was intentional, I don't think that Bay himself would have been responsible, because that's almost never the case when these "secret cameos" happen with animated characters. It typically is done as a sort of practical joke by the animators and character modelers. Walt Disney didn't go into the animation department for Fantasia one day and say "Hey, could you make the sorcerer look like me? I think that'd be really cool." It was that one day, his animators showed him a clip and then pointed out the resemblance, and they all had a good laugh over it. It was the same thing with Brad Bird and Syndrome from The Incredibles, so it wouldn't suprise me if it's the same here as well.

The only way we'll know if the resemblance was intentional at all though is if it's brought up in a commentary or some other such thing, and hopefully that will finally make it clear as to whether this was a prank on Bay by the animation team, or Bay trying to put himself into the movie. In any case though, it's still Peter Cullen's voice coming out of OP's mouth, and that's really what will define the character.

I read that he apparently turned the movie down when first approached, The 'something' made him change his mind. I think the thing i read said it was more $$$ but i could be wrong

Bay originally said 'no' to it because he didn't want to make what he called, "a toy movie." Once he found out more about the characters and stories, he changed his mind. He's said this in multiple interviews.

From what i heard it was when Spielberg pitched Sam's story to him that he changed his mind and has since gotten into the bots as well

Spielberg pitched the "boy and his car" thing. But he didn't agree until after he met with Brian Golder, pres of Hasbro USA. Hasbro offerred him a stake in the merchandising. In the same meeting they assured him he'd have creative control of the movie. He said this in a post on his website over a year ago.

Everyone jumped on the "merchandising" thing because it seemed like he only cared about $$$. But, in his defense, this is not rare and probably just made good business sense. Still....

I wouldn't be surprised if Bay has come to respect the characters themselves (how can you not when working on this film?)

I'm tired of people trying to make the man out as some sort of evil monster trying to piss off fans for the fun of it. Wait for the darn (complete) film to be released.

I was bored. Closer look at the whole action.

Nice. Primes getting a spinning backfist put on his ass by Megatron!

Glad to see their size difference isn't as radically different as frst thought....

I didn't realize he also had a career in modeling! wow this guy has his hands in money pies

bay.jpg

much akin to this man's fleeting career as a model

hot stuff!

'Cane we bring the Brewskis'......

*Shivers at the horrible memory'

As shocking as it is, he's a worse actor than most people think he is a Director
