I understand what popular means just fine & if you want to go by the Box Office okay then a movie about a boat is more popular then a trilogy about Pirates & a guy bitten by a Spider end of story

Glad you are finally accepting the truth.

I got no problem playing this Box Office = quality game because of what the Box Office shows according to everyone here. Pirate sucks there is no room for #3 or #2 Titanic is the greatest movie of all time.

Where did I say box-office = quality?

Titanic is without question the most 'popular' movie of all time, if you deny that you are blind, or don't understand the word 'popular' and what it indicates.

I pretty much assumed you were thinking that as most users here who adore the whole Box Office thing thinks that. My bad if you dont & again I understand what the word "popular" stop being a jack ass about that.

You have no proof of this aside from the Box Office & not even that prooves anything. I guess you are also saying that Titanic is the greatest movie of all time & The Return Of The King is more popular then Pirates. But then again L0ngsh0t you are the ultimate definition of a Fan Boy when it comes to Pirates.

Meh, I think its debatable

and your right I don't have any proof outside of the box office, but that does tell a tale of popularity, not the whole thing, but a chapter in the story of what is the more popular, and you know Spider-man franchise is currently outgrossing Pirates anyways

I think the fact that Curse was such an unbelievable sleeper, translating to probably one of the biggest cult movies ever (again debateable, but that movie developed a cult the size of china) translating into a monster opening weekend, and blah blah blah, it doesn't really matter, I suppose if you don't think it's more popular then its not, and if you do you do....all opinion and my opinion from my conversation with other people about movies has led me to this equation

Popularity is one thing but quality is another thing & there you go again with the "people you know or people you have talked to thing" :whatever: Just because people you know or thik agree about one thing does not mena the entire planet does.

Talk about being a jackass, stop equating everybody you meet with those who equate popularity with quality.

Ahh misquoting me again my good man?

I never said the word "people I know" I only said, people I have had conversaitions with

this includes in a class discussion like my lit professor say something, and someone quoting Jack Sparrow, and he says "so you guys like Pirates" and everyone responds with "yes" and then a similar scenario occurs with Spider-man, and not even half the same people who say that about Pirates, say it about Spider-man. And these aren't people like us who disect every film, these aren't even people I know, they are just your normal "Hey I guess there is a new Spider-man movie coming out this weekend" sor of kids

it is situations like that, also like when I work at my movie store, and your random movies fans talk with me about movies they like, most of them say Pirates, alot of them say Spider-man, but I here a lot more Pirates than Spider-man, granted I work at an average sized movie store in St.Paul not even the biggest city in Minnesota, but it is a glimpse I can see the worldview opinion on movies through, and make a valid judgment

I guess we will have to agree to disagree on this one L0ngsh0t

Anybody surprised at the relatively low Monday numbers for SM3?

^^^

I mean low Monaday numbers ($10m for $150m OW? That's really sad)

Monday seems to be known as the crappiest day of the week so nope

You really like to only look at the surface of things don't you. Notice the word 'relatively' in my question, it usually means we should look deeper, look for context and things to compare.

For a movie that blasted previous records for the first weekend, a 10 million dollar Monday only ranks 34th of all time, and is eclipsed by several movies 2nd Monday.

Well I think saying it is bad word of mouth is a bit unfair, they chose this weekend cause of the no competition, but now they are faced with what makes this weekend, not as appealing as say May 25rh...everyone is still in school, college kids have finals, I think it is understandable that the numbers are lower then maybe Pirates monday will be...well okay bad example cause their monday is memorial day, say Harry Potters monday

That very well could be it, I only see one movie above it within the same week, which is the 1st Spider-Man.

I do think though the completely split audience will start to show its face this weekend, like I loved it, and some peoples negitivness towards the movie buffudles me...like I personally thought the Jazz scene, and 70's montage sequence, where the two best comedic momments in the franchise, and outside of everything in hott fuzz the best orchastrated comedic sequences this year, I had no problem with them...and those are like two things most of the people that thought the movie was bad complain about like on average

but yeah, the audiences seem to be split, I talk to just as many people who liked it, as those who didn't, and the decidedly lukewarm 62 on RT seem to echo that (although Babel was up for best picture and that is by no means lighting RT up ether at a 68)

Well even with Spiderman only getting a 62 or Rotten Tomatoes, DMC only got a 54 and that did pretty well.

And the most "popular" movie should be Gone with the Wind since based on # of ticket sales, more people went to see this movie than Titanic or Star Wars.

what the hell are you talking about?

I don't think ether SM3, or DMC are as good as their RT score indicates I don't see how I brought up B.O.=popularity in that post, but since you brought it up

yeah, its tough to say cause of the massive generation gaps, and considering most of the people that went to, or like GWW are dead or dying (I mean its my grandparents favorite movie ever)

I don't think that is your best argument, by far Titanic is your best argument against B.O.=popularity, cause its no ones favorite movie, even those who like it can probably find a movie they like better

and I said a couple post back, I do believe B.O. does indeed show the popularity of a movie, but just like 1 part of the equation, things like internet polls, DVD sales, sequel opening numbers, and yet with those all equated, we still don't have an affirmative number, but one thing is for sure, DMC (or any insanley high grossing movie) didn't get to the number it did cause most people hated it...that a child can figure out

Yes, you are right, sometimes I forget true 'butts in seats' numbers, in which GOTW is undisputed victor and will probably never be surpassed.
