Pirates of the Caribbean 5 - Part 1

I hope they tweak Salazar's voice. I saw the teaser at the theater with Rogue One and I could barely understand him. It was worse at the theater than it was when I watched it on my computer. The loudness and surround sound seemed to make it more unintelligible for some reason. If that's how it is in the final film Ill probably spend most of his scenes trying to decipher his dialogue.:funny:

I think he just has a very thick accent in general. They should bring in Diego Luna to dub him. I KID, I KID!

It's true. Bardem is harder to understand in this than Bane was in the original TDKR prologue before they redubbed the voice.

Bane never gave me any trouble, and I prefer how it was in the IMAX prologue preview so I guess it really depends on the person. Accents don't bother me usually, but that thick accent with the sludge in his mouth just makes it a mess. At the very least they need to ADR his dialogue to bypass the sludge mouth sound. They can keep a bit of it, but the way it currently is is not good.

How was the reaction in theater tho?

Silence. But in my experience only comedies, star wars and marvel film trailers really cause a stir. Even those don't always get a reaction. I at least didn't hear any negative reactions like laughing, scoffing, or comments such as, "Not another one." So silence may not necessarily be a bad thing.

Jessica thrilled to meet Johnny Depp, dressed as Pirates of the Caribbean character Captain Jack Sparrow, at Great Ormond Street Hospital

Jessica Marr Henderson had an incredible surprise during a recent stay in hospital.

The Strood Academy pupil was in Great Ormond Street Hospital, London, when she was visited by Hollywood actor Johnny Depp.

Jessica, 12, was stunned to find the film star, in full costume as his Pirates of the Caribbean character Captain Jack Sparrow, by her bedside.

He also gave Jessica, who was having treatment for a rare condition called juvenile idiopathic arthritis, a £50 voucher for Hamleys toy shop.

Her mum Leahanne said: “We had no idea and Jessica’s face was a picture. He sat down and spoke to her, all in character. He was so lovely.

“She was so excited, she’s still in shock that Johnny Depp had come to visit her.”

Depp regularly visits the hospital as a thank-you for the life-saving treatment his daughter Lily-Rose received in 2007.

Someone in the comments at /Film said this about the Pirates teaser:

"everyone had a ***** for it in my Rogue One showing"

That was in response to someone who said their showing of Rogue One didn't have that reaction to the Pirates trailer. That response also criticized him for "being off the mark" as if the Pirates trailer is somehow universally loved.

What about Fast and Furious? That trailer got a "Whoa, WTF" reaction at my showing of Rogue One.

"Bryn Smith" sounded like a troll.

Judging by the official teaser video posted by Disney having 17,932,731 views and 154,143 likes (as of now), I'd say it does seem universally loved.

And that ***** guy sounded like a fanatic who thinks nobody dislikes the Pirates movies. Whether "Bryn Smith" was a troll or not, is there really as much excitement for Pirates as there is Star Wars, Marvel, or even Fast and Furious? Some people here have openly stated there wasn't much of a reaction to the trailer at Rogue One.

Let me put it this way: I think Pirates 4 is Fast 4 and Pirates 5 is Fast Five.

I'm not biting.

Fast Five changed the landscape of the Fast franchise by adding someone like the Rock as a mainstay. What is Pirates 5 adding to the Pirates franchise? Bringing on Javier Bardem as the villain is just the kind of thing the Pirates franchise has always done: cast top talent as their villains.

How can you make that assumption when we still know so little about this movie? All we really know is that Will Turner's kid is one of the central characters and the supernatural villain has beef with Jack Sparrow, which is the same thing we've seen in all of these sequels. If this one fails it'll bury the franchise.

Are y'all forgetting they got a different writer and new, fresh directors who successfully made a sea movie? Marshall and his not-made-for-PotC direction didn't return for this! Disney wants to get it right for real this time, I think.

Actually, we don't know if Henry (Brenton Thwaites) is Will Turner's son. Disney never said anything about his full name being Henry Turner. The boy who played Will's son in the after-credits scene of At World's End was credited as "Young Will Turner", not Henry. Three years ago Brenton Thwaites' character was called Henry Maddox, and he was described as "A brash young British officer" who "will intercept Jack in his journey and fall head over heels for Carina in the process."

Directors? Maybe. But Jeff Nathanson doesn't inspire the greatest amount of confidence. Neither does featuring Javier Bardem in CGI rather than himself.

I don't think he's unrecognizable in this.

I'm curious to see where this installment will take the franchise. Will it be the last? Will it make up for the previous movie?

It's strange because part 4 was sorta a soft-reboot for the franchise, so I can see Sparrow's comparison to the Fast/Furious movies, with this hopefully being its Fast 5. But I don't know. Since it's solely (mostly) based on one character, being Jack, it doesn't have the luxury of the F/F movies with its huge cast.

Also, we're in the stage of Depp being middle aged, and struggling with it. His stardom, his choices in movies, his personal life, etc.

He's no longer the dreamy, dark eyed outsider with great cheekbones.... but now he's the weird dad who looks like a roadie for Poison.

Disney CEO Bob Iger:

Do you have Jack Sparrow from Pirates of the Caribbean in the park?

Yes.

And Johnny Depp's personal problems?

Not worried about it.

The scandal will pass?

I don't know whether it passes or not. We have Jack Sparrow.

You think people separate.

Right.
