Pixar's SOUL

There’s a chance, but will it be a serious contender? Prolly not for reasons we know...

The Academy voters are biased against recognizing animated features and have been for decades, regardless of quality.

Just wanna know, is this gonna make people cry? I've alreadyw atched a super depressing Midnight Sky today, don't really want to feel like crying over the rest of the X-mas weekend lmao

I did kind of but crying here is not a depressing thing. Its exactly the opposite!

Thoroughly enjoyed the movie, but it didn’t pack the emotional punch in the vein of Inside Out, Up, or Toy Story 1-3. However, I absolutely loved how the movie subverted my expectations because from the beginning, I was getting annoyed with the possibility of another Disney film keeping its black lead “human” for only the first 20 minutes of the movie.

But can someone explain to me two things:

1. How did people who have been to the soul world able to communicate with the cat?
2. What exactly were the universal figures helping shape the souls supposed to represent? The fact that one of them could travel to the real world and just kill people at will was interesting but I didn’t like the execution.

Wowowow. I'm a huge Pixar fan and this one just blew me away. One of their best yet. I had high hopes for it and it exceeded them.

It's just outside of my top 5 Pixar.

Can’t wait to watch it but I’ll wait for the bluray release in 3 months or so cause it looks like something I’ll actually want to own.
I'm still planning on picking it up in 4K when it comes out. One of the best Pixar movies in years.
"I've been messing with this team for decades." :funny: I'm not even a basketball fan but that one got me. Loved the more mature angle they took with this one.
That was hysterical! Yeah, definitely a little more mature than some of the other offerings from Pixar. Really just so good.

I didn't feel the film as a whole was as strong or memorable as an inside out, but it pulled off the message of the movie so well that it almost didn't matter.

The moment I saw Connie I thought there was a clear, much more predictable realization Joe was going to make at the end. I'm so glad I was wrong about that. Loved it.

I just realized that there was no John Ratzenberger in this one either.

While I enjoyed the movie, Jamie Foxx didn’t feel right for this role. The look and age of the character needed a voice that sounded a bit older.

This was truly one of Pixar's best and most emotionally resonant films for me.

The message of the film is delivered in such a strong way that me and my partner nearly cried at the end.

Also, the animation here was next level. Some of the urban shots looked almost real life-like.

I thought Foxx was alright. Foxx is 53 but does sound younger.

I could also see Craig Robinson voicing the role. Robinson's real life also had similarities since he was a music teacher and piano playing musician.

Hearing Graham Norton and Richard Ayoade in a Pixar film is surreal for me.

Yeah I'm glad the movie had some good genuine plot twists that were believable and that actually worked. The ending totally worked for me.

Gardner was supposed to be in his 40s. Jamie Foxx is 53. I get that you wanted a voice that "sounded" older, but I think the far more important thing is the character and emotion of the vocal performance, and I thought Foxx did a great job there. And to me I had no problem believing that Foxx was playing a slightly immature middle-aged man, ha.

I thought this was the best film of 2020 that I’ve seen so far, and definitely stands among some of Pixar’s best of the past decade along with Inside Out and Coco. The cast was all great and the attention to detail in the New York scenes was fantastic. It certainly subverted my expectations in a good way.

Jamie Foxx is 53. I don't think he needed to sound older at all. I think his voice totally worked and I forgot I was listening to Jamie Foxx at points.
