SAY WHA!?

:wow::wow:

WHAT?!

SWEET STUFF HUH GUYS, AND IT'S OUT ON WEDNESDAY:eek::up: I THOUGHT FOR SURE E3 WOULD BE THE DATE, I'VE NEVER BEEN SO HAPPY TO BE WRONG IN MY LIFE LOL!!!:oldrazz::D I LIKE WHAT WE'VE SEEN SO FAR, THE SYSTEM LOOKS GREAT, I'M VERY HAPPY WITH IT!!!:D:up:

Like everyone knows, i don´t have a PS3, i have a 360.
Even so, i´ll get a PS3 sooner or later, and for that i´ve watched the firmware 2.4 walkthrough on Gametrailers and i went WTF???
I know it´s all cool for you guys, but to actually make everything that the 360 has for over 2 years now, and not even one thing that it doesn´t diferent, looks like a huge fail to me.
They didn´t even updated the achivements and make it better than the one the ones on the 360, they just changed the name to Trophies and change the gamerscore to level up.

Wow, Sony needs to grow some balls and actually make something more than just copy paste.
Achievements are one of those things that you can enhance and make it better.

I´m really disapointed with Sony, i was expecting for something that we (360 owners) could say, i want that too.

I'm glad the guys at IGN like the update, I think the leveling up idea is good, just give you bragging rights over friends. Fine, 360 has always had this, but there's no reason people should feel cheated that Sony are catching up as it were.

That's a valid opinion, but I think everyone copy's each other. Originality is lacking in the industry as a whole. Rumble is good example of this. Keep in mind that this is just the first step in many for Sony. It lays the foundation for Home, which would set it apart from Live. Plus it is a free service. Those two factors do differentiate the two and could/will help steer new buyers to PS3 rather than the competition. Just my two cents.

That´s not entirely true....
And even if it was, the key word is enhancement, take what was already created and make it better.
I´ll give you an example, in my understanding, Gamescore is no more than the Highscore of old you got on Arcades and whatnot, but they enhanced it, made it better.
The PS3 doesn´t do it, they just changed the Xbox 360 concepts and gave them diferent names.
Level up is no more than the gamerscore, the diferent categories (Gold, Silver and Bronze) are only there because the Trophies don´t earn you points.
Rumble is not that good of an example because that´s a peripheral thing and that´s to enhance the gaming experience.

Hope i´m wrong, but i see Home being a huge failure, one that might hurt Sony more then they think.
When the novelty is gone, who is going to use it when a console is mainly a gaming platform?
Why does a console needs a second life kind of crap?
More even, if they were right in the last bonusround (preview of the E3), when Home arrives, it gives you the opportunty of making everything in 2D (meaning that, everything you can make in HOME, you can make on the dashboard, you don´t need to cross town and whatnot).....
Why make a 3D envirement and then say, you´ll only use it if you want to?
The moment you give that opportunity, people will not use it, they will just chat among themselfs like they do now, which means that Sony is expending money for nothing.

But hey, i might be wrong, HOME can be a huge sucess and make he PS3 crush the 360....i just can´t see that happening.

I agree Isildur that an improvement on features seen on other systems can be a sort of bragging rights to that system, however I think Sony has a good reason. To my understanding it's up to the game developer to allow trophies and such, same with 360 achievements. Their probably making them similar so game developers don't have to bend over backwards to make trophies for the PS3 and then have to make achievements for the 360. By making them similar it's probably xtra incentive to make sure that they do get made for the PS3 games as well. Atleast that's my guess, but anything too overly complicated could possibly turn developers off from wanting to do xtra work (especially for the smaller low budget games).

Isildur:
Your original post said that Sony didn't do anything new that MS had already done and Sony needs to make something new rather than copy and paste. The thing is, you are comparing 2.4 to Live and not the final product which will be Home. Doesn't Home fit in that category? You seem to think it is pretty risky. It takes "balls" to take a risk like that right? 2.4 is to even things up, so to speak, with Live and build upon it with Home. Which, in theory will make it (along with it being free) "better" than Live. I agree that we will have to wait and see if Home is a hit or not, but it will ultimately come down to it vs. Live in many gamers eyes. Lets wait and see how it shakes down.

Its not even like copying exists in just the consoles though. Think of how many Gears of War clones are out there now, or how many games tried to be Halo after its release. MS themselves are looking to attract new markets with elements from the Wii and PS3. there's no solving it, people just take the best bits of each others consoles.

Playstation Official Magazine UK says that 70% of games with be availible from the start. Its only a rumour, but I hope its true, and I hope it isn't finalised, 30% is a damn large gap to be missing out on.

Can't wait to see the whole list. I'm sure developers of the other 30% could make them possible through DLC. According to the playstation blog, a FAQ should show up soon.

70% of what? 70% of games out now will have trophy support?

I don't see this as an huge fail. Frankly, PSN needed to become on par with Xbox Live and the only way to do it was by essentially copying and pasting.

Now that PSN and Xbox Live are now on par, it's now up to Microsoft and Sony to no go above and beyond and grow balls and make ther services better. Microsoft can do so by making Xbox Live free and Sony can do so with Home and improving download speeds.

Criterion has this to say about trophy's in Burnout Paradise:

Okay, here’s what we can say about the details:

* Trophies will be retroactive, so, if you’ve achieved something today, the day the update arrives (not Cagney, we want to emphasise) that will be reflected in your Trophies.

* Your Burnout Paradise save game has always been locked to your PSN id - so there’s never been any chance of trading save games - your progress is your progress (we have a way of thinking ahead for this kind of stuff!)

* The Save Game Analyser works with a special export file that is exported when you do a manual save from the game, not your encrypted save game file - so there’s no chance that anyone could hack that

* That’s as much as we can reveal right now - if you know us and our site, we’ll let you know as soon as we are confident to do so

Thanks for all of the support and positive comments, guys - we really appreciate it.

If they can make trophy's retroactive, I wonder if other Devs. can?

I'm looking forward to this update tomorrow. I just installed a 300Gb hard drive in my PS3 this morning so it was nicely timed.

Trophies can be retroactive dependant on the developer!? Konami! Do it for MGS4!
