Please, no "Superman Begins"

This may be a wrong assumption but you havent read many Superman comics have you? The FOS has more functions than you list above. Its a place Superman goes to think, rest, plan and God knows what else he has done in there in the comics. It isnt only there to teach him his heritage. Its a place he goes to be alone when he needs to be.

Would one of these functions be a security system? I mean there’s all this talk about this advance alien technology but it just makes no since that any Joe can walk in and have Brando give them the secrets to the universe.

The FOS is a pretty lame part of Superman's mythos. He can easily just fly into space if he needs some alone time. Part of the tragedy of Superman is that he IS so alone. He doesn't need a place to "get away" he is ALWAYS alone...he should be lonely in the city as the unassuming, no-attention getting Clark Kent and he should be lonely as Superman, being a messiah type hero that no one can really ever understand. Other than Lois and the Kents Clark/Superman doesn't/ can't really connect with anyone emotionally. He has no one to talk to and no one can really ever understand what a being with his powers and abilities is going through. I think this needs to be explored in the next to make Superman more vulnerable...without the FOS. I like how the FOS was used in STM, but I think it should become a part of Superman's distant memories, living with the lesson his Father tought him...much like it was in Superman Returns...

The "Solitude" part of the FOS isn't so he'll just get some time alone, it's so he can get some time where he can feel fully at home. That's why the Fortress is always a leftover fragment of Krypton.

And it's a base of operations; has been from as far back as when it was just "Superman's Citadel".

Never had a problem with the robots, myself. Be them security droids or servants.

Personally, I always saw the fortress not as a literall means of enabling Supes to be alone but as a means to give Supes a bit of solitude from the outside world - y'know, to enable him to catch a breather and relax in surroundings indicative of his heritage and Krypton's culture..

Agreed. Great points, guys.

The Fortress also serves as a place for Supes to do scientific research, to collect stuff he finds from around the galaxy, and also as a place to take Lois on a date..

HAPPY HOLIDAYS TO ALL!

hey we all know that Superman is not intelligent so how can he do scientific research?
Are you kidding me? He has been shown over time and time again to be very very intelligent. Hell the only time he is portrayed as a dumb brute is when Frank Miller writes him. Hell read For Tomorrow for a perfect example on how smart he is. He created a whole perfect world out of a void in the Phantom Zone.

Yep. Why else is he a leader of the Justice League? You need to be smart to be a leader, since you need to give the plan before the rest follow it.

Funny how you dont moan about Zod, etc walking in with no security :cwink:.

We can only pray to get a film as good as Batman Begins for Superman...pray my friends...pray...to Superman himself...

I'm not a religious man... but if you're up there... SAVE YOUR FRANCHISE SUPERMAN!

Simpsons FTW!

^^ You kind of missed my point. I've seen the movie, I've seen the Adventures of Superman, I've seen L&C, Smallville, TAS and read a buttload of comic books from all three origin eras, plus stand-alones.

What I've never done is walk into a theater and watch a Superman film I can call my own. Watching Returns was like going to my dad's high school reunion in his place. What do I have to say with these old guys?

So for you to be able to "call it your own" means that can't be a sequel to something that was made before you were born?

I'm not fond of this mentality.

Well, I think thats the mentality that alot of fans who happen to follow newer Superman stories are taking. It's time for our live action film.

I get that; I just don't have much trouble seeing something as "mine" just because it came before I was around.

Under my hand, the Fortress of Solitude would only be a place for him to do the kind of work he can't do anywhere else or a place he would go to be completely alone. It would not be his 'home-away-from-home'. He wasn't raised on Krypton and has NO affinity for things Kryptonian. He was raised by the Kents and his 'home' would be back in Smallville with them.

Although, I wouldn't mind getting rid of the FOS all together.

They could save the FOS for a sequel, but if it doesn't serve any use for the first film's story then they shouldn't waste precious time with it. Superman: Birthright's story moved along just fine without even mentioning the thing. Also, that's one less giant set they have to spend millions on.

I think the origin should be extremely quick. I mean, in STAS, they manage to convey it fairly well in about 10 seconds.

^10 seconds? I thought it was a 3-part episode.

I say they should only hint at the Krypton stuff and save it for a sequel. That would take a HUGE chunk of time out of the origin part of the movie and help us get right into the good stuff (read: Superman in Metropolis).

I wonder if people were complaining that we didnt see just how indiana jones became who he was in raiders of the lost ark...or how jack bauer became a badass....the long, drawn out origin story is overrated. as long as people get a sense of who the character is, origin dosent really matter.....

It’s been awhile since I saw that movie but I thought Superman wanted Zod and the others to follow him because they were causing too much destruction in Metropolis. Also with all the people around there were to great of a chance of some one getting seriously hurt are even killed. I never said that Superman 1 or 2 were perfect movies in fact I have said that I fine both movies to have many flaws, but I still enjoy watching them. That is one of the reasons I wanted a complete reboot.

Me personally i would use the FOS for a place for him to relax and clear his head while storing the things that travelled wit him in the rocket. For example, i like the idea of Krypton being a mixture of technology and crystals, so if Jor-el sent a crsystal that contains Krypton history, supes would store it there along with the ship and things that came with him and get them away from public and humanity. My idea is that the FOS is not made but found. Like when supes is young and traviling the world he comes across these ice caves that people cant get to, and remembers them when he decides to store his stuff. Of course he goes to smallvile when he needs to talk and wat not but when he needs to be alone he goes to the FOS. But still shouldnt be a huge asset in the movies.

Agreed no Superman Begins we all know his orgin and all that just do a Batman 89 and have him already Superman in his first year crime fighting going up against a dangerous foe. I say Brainiac.

There is many ways they could go about having origin while still getting straight to the action we all want to see. If they ultimately do end up rebooting the whole series now it would be best to have a new/different origin then we have seen before so we can have a clear showing this is different.
