To balance out the poll I just posted, I pose this question to people who are currently enjoying ASM MORE than you did before.

1. What about the title is making you happier?

a) The erasure of Spider-man's marriage
b) The erasure of the original timeline
c) The resetting of the character's maturity and perspective
d) The erasure of add-on elements like his power-base that took him away from his core
e) The remasking
f) The increased focus on the supporting cast
g) The lightness of the books
h) The 3x/month publication schedule
i) The current stories are amazing
j) The current art is amazing
k) Joe Quesada is my idol
l) Other (explain)

Vote for the option that you feel is the most important to you. And then, list other options in order of importance. Don't bother including anything that is not a factor. Explain your reasoning and thoughts.

And then, a SECOND question:

If they restored the original timeline in the very near future, would you continue to buy the book?

Again, elaborate where necessary to clarify.

For those of you who are NOT buying the book now, this thread will get muddied if you start listing why you AREN'T reading. But that's where the thread below this one comes in...

I chose "Other" because I have what could be called naive faith that some day the writers will do something to bring MJ and Peter back together.

I could drop the title now and be done with it and wait for that to happen. But when (if) that day comes, I'd start to buy the comic again. I would then be faced with having to get back issues to fill the gap of the ones I didn't buy to complete my collection again.

I'm sure you know this already, but the only way they will change it back is if sales go down. I urge you to reconsider. You can always buy TPBs.

I wouldn't say I'm enjoying ASM MORE that before, but I still enjoy it. Spider-Man is my all time favorite character and I will always read is comics to keep up with him. I'm not happy the marriage is erased via deal with the devil, or that Harry Osborn is returned from the dead. I also think these new stories could've fit in with the original continuity. Mr. Negative, Paper Doll, Freak, Peter Parker: Paparazzi, even Aunt May working at the Feast Center all could've been done without OMD.
But it wasn't. And this is what we got. It's not the greatest situation but, ya know what? I still want to read about Spider-Man. So I do.

As the old status quo got very boring (at least it did to me) over the last 20 to 25 years, I'm digging this new direction simply because it feels like I'm reading a Spider-Man book for the first time in over a decade (barring a few exceptional stories in that time frame).

And yes, I will probably still buy the book afterwards, but I'm concerned that it will become very dull and prosaic, as it had since the late 80's.

Just my opinion...

Mike

I chose other, because I just got back to reading again. Although I am going back and trying to read the issues I missed.

I chose other because it truly is great and interesting. I mean, this has really gripped me.

other

I'm a completionist ho'. I decided to give BND a go, before making a decison on whether I was going to like it or not.

I am getting fed up with the re-hashed stories and characters though and was hoping for some new stuff from a new start, not just the same old stories, plots and characters with an 'Ultimate, modern present day update'

Not sure where i fit in....i AM enjoying the book to some extent, but i liked it more before....

My friend doesn't visit these boards, but he is still buying because he is a long time collector like me,a nd doesn't want to ruin his runs.

He bought Clone Saga too. Highly detests this and that, but faithly buys them, tho i think he is just browsing them at this point. At least i can look at his too tho...and see what i am not missing.

I understand what you are saying, but like a few others on this post, I too am a collector. I do not want to ruin my runs. So far from what I have seen sales have gone down horribly at my comic book store at least. There are so many BND issues on the shelves, where normally the AMS issues are all gone.

Like what was also said, all of the new interesting stories could have been done without splitting up MJ and Pete. It's like the writers were using MJ as an excuse for their inability to create new material.

Comic collecting isn't the same as what it used to be. Only a small handful of your books will be worth anything in the future. Ultimately, the only person that will care about having a full run is yourself, and if that is enough for you, that is fine. I just don't think you should count on the rest of us to cancel to bring change. Think about how many people have your attitude. Can you imagine how frustrating it is for someone like me?

I was going to vote Other, but that's kind of a cop-out. So I voted erasure of the marriage, because, honestly, I've thought that for a long, long time. But now, thinking about it, I realize that you made that list from the perspective of someone who genuinely doesn't like BND. Which is fine, it's not like anyone elase was making it. But two of the choices (about the timeline and maturity), I don't even agree with the premise of the statement.

I think most of you pre-OMD Spidey fans (now we're getting specific) think us BND fans (for lack of a better term, I would prefer to just call myself a Spidey fan, 'cause we all are) are just adhering to our collector mentality, and holding on for dear life in hopes that things will get better. Down deep, I don't really believe you think that we like it. I can only speak for myself (and maybe TMOB ;) ) and tell you that I really do like it. You'll just have to take my word for it.

I probably should have voted Other: I think it is best long-term for the character.

You can speak on my behalf... we're like twins (6 months apart... ouch) serperated at birth and I ended up in the cooler country. :woot:

I like it as well... it hasn't been perfect, but the books have been feeling right... for the first time in a loooooooooooooooooong time...in my opinion.

:yay:

Yuck it up, hoser, we'll always be the birthplace of Monster Truck Rallies!

Really, Bat? I think they're just NOW starting to feel right...the first few months and the books, while entertaining, felt a bit dis-jointed from the Marvel Universe to me.

Although on the other hand, it may just be that the style's the same and im just getting more used to it.

All i know is the current "Kraven" arc has been kicking ass. :word:

I'm too much of a Spider-Man ****e not to buy. Even if I hate the current state.

As I mentioned, it hasn't been perfect, and those first 4 months were (to me) the writers just getting their feet wet, but since then, the writing and the "feel" of the book has been getting better and better.

:yay:

I think that was the intention.

Well, this is a pretty stupid thing to say. You're right when I'm buying comics to complete runs of comics, all I think about is myself. Quite frankly I don't care how frustrating it is for you. You don't like the stories? Don't buy the comics. While I can still afford them, I'll buy them, even if the stories aren't the best at the moment.
