I've stolen this poll from another message board because I feel it would be interesting to see the results. I pose this question to people who are no longer buying ASM. Please vote for the option you feel is most important to you, and then in a post list any other reasons.

1. Why have you stopped buying?

a) The destruction of Spider-man's marriage
b) The destruction of the timeline
c) The de-evolving of the character's maturity and perspective
d) The erasure of growth elements like his power-base
e) The remasking
f) The fact that Peter and MJ made a deal with Marvel's equivalent of the devil
g) A reaction to Marvel's perceived "dissing" of the readers
h) The 3x/month publication schedule
i) The current stories just aren't good enough to keep me in
j) Other (explain)

So that you don't have to just just one, vote for the option that is most important and then list other options. But then order your answers from strongest influence to least strong...don't bother including anything that is not a factor. Explain your reasoning and thoughts.

And then, a SECOND question:

If they fixed the elements you listed in the very near future, would you return to buying the book?

Again, elaborate where necessary to clarify.

For those of you who are buying the book now, this thread will get muddied if you start listing why you ARE reading. I will make that a seperate thread.

I voted for the marriage. Other reasons...

b) The destruction of the timeline
c) The de-evolving of the character's maturity and perspective

I don't feel the rest is as important as these 3. Ignoring those factors, from what I've been reading about the current stories, they don't seem like my cup of tea anyway. However, I'm not listing that as a reason, because even if it seemed the story quality is good, I couldn't buy the book under current circumstances.

If my reasons were reversed, I would consider buying again.

I voted B.

Destruction of continuity.

The results of OMD were really cheap and lame.

Marvel did not like the status quo re: a number of issues in Peter Parker's life, so they just pressed the reset button in a way that totally disrespects the loyalty of the avid fan (me). After investing in this saga for many years the results of many storylines are now no longer valid.

Worse still, it's pretty much impossible to explain how this would all work. Given that quite a few significant hero's and villains knew Spidey's secret ID. Now what exactly do they remember of their interactions with Spidey?
OMD effectively makes swiss cheese of 616 continuity.

As for Harry Osborn...... WHHHHHHYYYYYYYYYY?????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If they un did the OMD continuity cluster***** would I buy ASM again? Hell Yeah.

Tho I am buying the New Ways to Die issues, I can't resist that.

I'd heavily advise against that. I'm sure you can read them online, torrent!

We need the sales to go down, even during New Ways To Die, to effectively send Marvel a message. The sales continue to drop and need to continue to drop during NWTD.

wow no all of the above? i didnt vote because i dropped it for just about ALL of those reasons.

Hm, one thing I could do is buy other titles and then swap em on the way out of the store with ASM...

Whatever you do, just don't increase the sales of ASM. We need those sales figures to go down.

I did't drop it in the snese that I'll never, ever pick it up again, but the one, single moment that is the reason I have not bought an issue since was the "dissing" of the readers with MJ and Carr in 561. Everything else was reason I did not like the direction, but that one moment was a kick in the balls.

I honestly dropped it as soon as I heard that Peter and MJ made a deal with the devil. The fact that this is the basis for the entire new direction of the character/series is reason enough for me to never look back. Now, if Peter had made a deal with the devil to save MJ, that would have been different. Instead, he made a deal with the devil to save a 90 year-old woman from a gunshot wound, when he was told by May herself to let her go. Also, GOD told him everything would be okay, and that he should let her go.

SO, instead, my favorite hero goes against the wishes of his beloved Aunt, against the wishes of God the Father, and turns to the devil foe help, at the cost of his marriage. Seriously? Ugh.

As for BND, I've read several of the issue on the store, and I think someone even GAVE me a copy of the first issue of it, but I haven't seen thing one to convince me that this book is worth my 12 dollars a month. Is there a story that can bring me back?

ABSOLUTELY.

The story where the devil's true price for saving Aunt May is revealed, and Peter must now find a way to turn the tide on Mephisto with the help of the other heroes in the Marvel Universe, so that the timeline can be corrected, and everything restored.

Honestly, I might consider buying New Ways to Die, if it weren't coming out every week. I have a new baby girl, and spending $144 a year on ONE BOOK just isn't going to cut it.I'd rather take that money for 48 barely mediocre issues and buy a nice copy of ASM #50, or 31, or any of the other issues I want.

thats exactly when I lost interest as well.
I tried giving bnd a chance. but that was the last straw....
I'd rather pick up back issues than read anything BND. they don't care about their fans.

Pretty much sums it up for me along with the destruction of continuity. The deal with Mephisto is so out of character, its not funny.

I don't like when people start talking about not buying something so the status quo changed. If I remember correctly this is what happened during the Clone Saga, and then we got an even bigger cluster.

One thing that was nice is that there was not a huge story event going in Spiderman for awhile. It seems like they went from one big story to another, and there was no time to digest the first big story. So maybe with the New Ways To Die something cool will happen, and it will stay that way,

Tough poll...to pick just One....it is a combo of a bunch of those really.

I mean, shaping an entire reboot of a character around making a deal with the devil to heal and elderly aunt and lose your wife in asinine and a poorly created new world we have here to read, if we choose to. IT is not even in character with ANY of the involved characters. It is SO forced.

Not only is this world an alternate history, for Spidey who now has two seperate histories, we've got HArry that never died too, and an entire planet mindwiped and that doesn't notice (nothing mentioned anywhere in anyone's book) that they have partial memories of one of the alternate histories now created by the devil that shapes this new world of Spidey.

And since when does Mepehisto alter history and time and minds and life/death and just to have someone's marriage?? And then partially mindwipe an entire planet too? He did all this to make an old lady live longer? Weird for such a supposedly powerful bag guy who has THAT kind of power now.

When you get down to it, they degressed and altered spidey for no apparent reason accept that Joe wanted it, it was his agenda.

The fans have really lost here...with a bad BATCH of reboot that was served up here. :oldrazz:

I'll buy spidey again someday, when this long detour Joe took everyone on, comes to an end and is nothing but a VERY distant memory that never happened.

I kept collecting but I'm thinking of dropping. I was re-reading some issue's and I realised, this book is nothing like The Dark Knight and therefore doesn't matter.

I collected the first arc or two for BND and felt a huge disconnect with the character. I mean, I don't know how else to put it other than it doesn't feel like Spider-man at all anymore. This isn't the character that I grew up reading. I dropped the title then picked it up again when I heard that MJ was returning and dropped it again after that arc. I flip through the title from time to time in the comic store now. It still feels weird walking into my shop and leaving without picking up the flagship title for my favorite character. It honestly feels as if Marvel has no clue in what direction to take the Spider-man comic franchise. The character definitely deserves better then the crap that Marvel has him going through in ASM.

ASM is not supposed to be anything like The Dark Knight. :whatever:

Hm, tough one. There are several reasons. I guess I will go with the marriage being ended. That was my original reason back in December after OMD. Simply put, I liked the marriage and the character growth it provided. Un-marrying Peter seemed to undo a lot of character development.

On top of that, the stories since then havent been very good, from what people have said. I bought the last few issues (Kraven's First Hunt) and wasnt overly impressed.

Next, I cant believe Peter and MJ were so stupid as to end their marriage with the Devil's help. Making a deal with the Devil is the definition of stupidity. It never works in your favor. May was ready to die. She said as much. She wouldnt want Peter to save her life at the cost of his marriage. I think, if she remembered what happened, she would be very upset with her nephew for doing what he did. Plus, it was just selfish of Peter. His personal pain was more important than everyone else's.

As for the second question: If they undid all this crap,I would get back on board. No problem.

Personally I find the new direction is uninteresting, and I could care less about these new characters. I would have preferred MJ and Pete seperate than make a deal with the devil. I agree that making a deal with the devil is the ultimate in stupidity.

Exactly.

May would flip if she found out she owes her life to satan.

Next time it won't be Kraven shooting and killing Spidey, but an irrate Aunt May who is living on devil power.

And, Pete and MJ would never deal with the devil. Never. Period.

And then the ffunny thing is, Joe has the gall to call OMD "heartwarming" in the solicits. Which is hilarious. Even people who like the reboot, found the launching pad of this new world to be incredibly STUPID. It was heavily contrived crap. An agenda, pure and simple. THat's just one reason why i don't like it

I voted 'deal with devil'.

With great power comes great responcibility...unless you have the devil around to fix your problems.

Gee Pete, whats next? Norman giving you problems? I'm sure the devil could help you out with that too.
