POTC = The new SW?

LOTR would have had a bigger impact if they were never books first.

For me:

SW: ANH - 9 out of 10

SW: ESB - 9 out of 10

SW: ROTJ - 8 out of 10

Raiders of the Lost Ark - 10 out of 10

IJ and TOD - 7 out of 10

IJ and TLC - 9 out of 10

LOTR: FOTR - 9 out of 10

LOTR: TTT - 8 out of 10

LOTR: ROTK - 9 out of 10

POTC: COBP - 8 out of 10

POTC: DMC - 6 out of 10

POTC: AWE - 5 out of 10

So, Indiana Jones>>>Star Wars>>Lord of the Rings>>>>POTC :)

LOTR films really revolutionized nothing.

And I hate Star Trek.

What about the whole "filming multiple movies at the same time" thing.

Or the AI programs for the huge battles.

Or digital grading

Or the way they so seamlessly blended live action, cg, miniatures, and sets.

Gollum

Gollum

None of that really broke ground that changed cinema forever.

Nothing will ever have the impact that Star Wars has had on culture, filmmaking technology, the film business, etc etc etc.

In short, there will never be a "new" Star Wars.

I wouldn't necessarily argue with that though I think the crew would. Of course your comment also applies to POTC, and much more easily.

Siiiigh.

NONE OF THEM HAVE HAD THE IMPACT STAR WARS HAS HAD! THEY HAVE BEEN AROUND FOR LESS THAN 10 YEARS! THERE IS NO WAY TO EVALUATE IMPACT OR SUCCESSFULLY PREDICT WHAT IMPACT WILL BE AT THIS POINT!

God, some of you are dense.

:sigh: that's totally not what i'm arguing.

I'm not arguing SW impact on society because that would be pretty ignorant...i'm arguing the similar story elements POTC shares with the series.

Well now you know some get really bent out of shape when you mess with their Star Wars.

perhaps. I just think there's a clear difference between upgrading from windows 95 to xp and actually inventing dos.

I don't like Star Wars that much. :whatever:

As for arguing story similiarities, you can link practically any story together. Hell, I can link The Godfather to Star Wars. Most stories use basic plot elements and archtypes.

Similiar themes(and I'm being generous because there's no way I think of the Black Pearl and the Falcon in the same way or those 2 guys and R2 and Threepio) doesn't make it the New Star Wars. And secondly, how is DMC the "Empire" of the series because it's a cliffhanger? Therefore Reloaded should be the "Empire" of the Matrix Trilogy.

Matt that wasn't directed at you. I know a few people who get real upset if you mention anything that can be viewed as negative about SW.

I agree with your point that it is too soon to determine what has impact and what doesnt.
I just think that with what Pirates has done, amking pirates cool again and all it has the potential to be, for people younger then us, the SW of their time.

Now I haven't never seen any of the original trilogy in theaters but I know when my parents talk about it there is this look they have in their eyes and the other day with my sister and her friends I noted that same look.

Okay. See this is what always confused me and made me laugh.

So it was cool when real pirates were murderous, raping, thieving low lifes who preyed on anything on the Sea?

Or they were cool in fiction with Captain Ron, and Pirates of Penzance and it had to be brought back to that level of coolness?

LOL.

.

Well, it makes for some interesting reading/viewing, doesn't it? Especially when one of them is the protagonist.

I love Schindler's List. Nazis haven't been this cool since Hogan's Heroes.

For those who wanted the pirate life I'm pretty sure it was. There are those who think gangster rap is best thing ever. It puts an interesting spin on things.

Or they were cool in fiction with Captain Ron, and Pirates of Penzance and it had to be brought back to that level of coolness?

Ummm...no. I dont think there is anything that will make Captain Ron cool.

Real pirates aren't the nicest of people.

And the person I quoted stated "POTC made pirates cool again".

Which led me to to make a connection to another group of disreputable people?

It's called a metaphor?

There is a difference-with pillage, rape, etc., you don't commit genocide, though. Thus a realistic pirate flick with a pirate as the protagonist would be pretty cool.

Sorry for getting OT. BTW Erzengel, why were you sorry for me?
