Power Rangers 3.0

OK just to be clear on the Super Sentai sequence.

First its Shinkenger, then the Shinkenger 13 episode mini-series, followed by Gokaiger, correct?

That turned out to be a false.

What the Shinkenger's got was a special movie/extra episode a few months after the show ended.

Yesterday, Goseiger announced it was having a V Cinema(same thing as Shinkenger) extra episode/movie.

What's this? Are we getting another one? Yes, yes we are! Tensou Sentai Goseiger will follow in Shinkenger's footsteps and be just the second series to have a video special produced after the series has ended. Tensou Sentai Goseiger Returns! LAST EPIC: The Gosei Angels are National Icons?! will be released June, 10th 2011 and serve as an epilogue to the series. It is a good time to be a fan.

The plot seems to revolve around the Goseiger being unable to use their Memorywash memory erase card on people, thus becoming national idols when it's discovered that they're heroes.

There is no Shinkenger 13 episode mini-series; it was just an internet rumor that was never confirmed by Toei, and we have no news about it either. I think it's safe to say that the mini-series starring Shinkengers will never happen.

Who is the Ranger right above Tiger White?

I think iit's MagiShine from Magiranger.

Btw, since GokaiSilver will be able to henshin to both Dragon Ranger (Green Ranger of MMPR S1) and White Tiger (White Ranger of MMPR S2), it almost seems like Toei is giving it a nod for the American counterpart series Power Rangers.

Power Rangers:Samurai premieres tonight.

Yes it is. :)

Speaking of PR: Samurai, I wonder how they're going to do the sixth ranger. I mean, no one can match that guy in hamminess. Also, will he still be as sushi-themed as before or will that get lost in translation? And assuming he's going to be a comic relief, samurai-wannabe like in Shinkenger, will he still be the Red Ranger's childhood friend or might they go with *gasp* Bulk's nephew? :wow:

It is confirmed that there will be Gold Samurai, to be played by actor Steven Skyler, although everything else is unknown including whether he will be selling sushi (my guess is probably not). Since Saban will release PR Samurai as two halves of 20 eps, I think the Gold Samurai will likely premiere in the second half of the season.

Thanks for the info.

So did anyone watch it? I thought it was a decent start, though it wasn't much in the way of introductions or anything, and they really didn't start with one like the beginning of Shikenger. Still, the cast has work to do but the Green Ranger was ok. The adaption seems ok, including keeping the Sanzu river and some other references. The theme song I was expecting to be different, but it blew my nostalgia up.

They're going to be sticking close to Shinkenger 75 to 80% of the time. A casting sheet wanted actors that could copy Jim Carrey's wackiness.

I don't have Nick so i'm waiting for clips but from what I gathered it was a direct translation of episode 3 of Shinkenger.

I saw it, and aside for the "rangers together samurai forever" in the theme song, I accept it.

The first episode of PR:S was ok for now. It's weird seeing so much of Shinkenger being utilized in PR:S, but it has cleared up my fears about the translation from Shinkenger to Power Rangers being lost. I just wish the first episode was more along the lines of the first episode of Shinkenger.

I thought the first episode was a really poor choice to start out the show. Most seasons introduce us to the characters and show how they meet thier mentor and earn their morphers. But here. They just tossed the viewer in like I should already know everyone, why they do what they do, and why the villians are there.

And the Bulk scene. I know that's for fans like us. But really. I had no clue why they had him in the episode. It was a strange part of the episode to cut to. If I were a new viewer I would have no idea: Who he is, What is he doing here, and why is he training the kid to be a samurai. Sense, you know, neither of them share a scene with the samurai rangers.

They could possibly tone down some of the symbols & flashy colors before & during morphing some, talk about overkill plus it makes it look even sillier when they do morph.

I completely agree. Worse, I suspect this wasn't supposed to be the first episode at all and am concerned that Nickelodeon might be showing them out of order.

But OTT-ness and camp are pretty much the point of the show.

On a separate note, I couldn't help but notice that the Samurai Rangers get along much better than the Shinkengers (during the first episodes) and that the Red Ranger is acting a lot less like a jerk than Takeru; which I feel is a missed opportunity. It cuts out a whole chunk of Shinkenger's character development - which I feel was one of the Sentai's highest points story-wise - and makes some of the Rangers' interactions when morphed not make much sense (as seen by the Blue Ranger being unimpressed, during the battle, by the Green Ranger tricking the monster into punching itself) when using Sentai footage. I understand it's probably to make Power Rangers Samurai more episodic, but it's still a shame.

There not showing them out of order. Power Rangers are doing something diffrent this season with starting in the middle of them being rangers, and the orgin will be shown later.

Except, they didn't introduce the viewers to the characters and setting but instead jumped right into a formulaic episode as though we already know who these people (and the villains) are and what's going on. Contrast with RPM which started in the middle of the conflict but still at a sensible point - with the Black and Green Rangers just arriving in town (before becoming Rangers themselves) - and more importantly, made a point to establish who the main characters are, what their respective personalities are, and more importantly, who and why they are fighting.

In Samurai, even the team's first group morphing sequence wasn't a major event. In other words, the episode was shot like 'just another episode' rather than a 'first episode'. That's why I think they might be airing out of order.

I think Saban has done away with the whole feudal lord thing, which explained Takeru's emotional distance from his teammates in the early episodes but Jayden does not have the same problem from what we have seen. I'm assuming that they will still preserve the whole kagemusha/imposter plot, but Jayden behaves nothing like a man who harbors a secret, nor does he acted like the rangers' master. I have a feeling that Jayden won't have much character development, because he is already preaching "Team First" and acted like an understanding leader of the team. Of course, it begs the question of why Mike the Green Ranger would rebel against him since Jayden is as likable as he can get.

As for my feeling for the episode, I think it was a mistake to show the episode that is an adaptation of Shinkenger's Act 3 instead of Act 1. I already finished Shinkenger so I knew everywhere beforehand, but I can imagine that many people who have no prior knowledge of Shinkenger would have a problem following all the characters right in the middle without any introduction. I also was very tired of the whole Mega suit sequence in the cockpit, from the overly-long morphing to the bunch of tricks they do with their swords to command the zords and Megazord. Shinkenger treated it with alot more seriousness, whereas PR Samurai seemed to want to grab as much attention as possible on something that Saban did exclusively for the show.

Anyway, I hope that they'd show the true first episode eventually, and downplay the cockpit scene more in the future; it can get tiresome.
