I don't get the katana argument at all.
I mean I feel like the fact that the first flick had a guy carry around a friggin minigun (among other things) firmly establishes the Predator universe as at least somewhat "comic booky" (for a lack of a better word)... but if a master swordsman uses a katana to kill a predator... that's just too much apparently.
I don't get it.
Good point. A minigun fires 100 bullets per second. When talking about his role in the movie in an interview for WWE Magazine (then called WWF Magazine), Jesse Ventura even mentioned that it would be impossible to carry a minigun through the bush like that. He said that the number of bullets fired from the gun during the times it was used would have required a truck to transport them. Yet we're supposed to believe that Blain and Nikolai could carry that much ammo on their backs? And this wasn't coming from some guy who's "just a wrestler" and his opinion doesn't matter. He's a former Navy SEAL, a Vietnam vet, who did black ops missions during the war that he is still forbidden from discussing. And if I remember correctly, he also acted as a consultant on the movie to try and keep the military elements as realistic as possible (hand gestures, how they hold their guns, etc).
