I don't know if they are trying to bill this as a miracle of science or be whimsical but it is neither.

When I first heard the headline, I admit that it caught my attention and I was intrigued. I truly thought it's a miracle but upon hearing more if it, I'm not impressed at all. The first time I heard about this was on the local news, they said this isn't the first. The other case was the same thing.

What do they use to construct the penis in these sex changes? Its 100% artificial right? Or do they take skin else where from your body? I remember this dude from Ripley's decided to do away with his middle finger by making it his new d*** after he got cancer.

I can give you a step-by-step, but it's NOT pretty. We were shown the whole procedure in Gross anatomy (it was actually "extra credit"), and, one, it's complex as hell (takes up to 18 months) and, two, makes me queezy as hell.

There are 2 ways to do it both involve surgery but the not-as-invasive procedure uses testosterone manipulation of the female clitoris (swells that bad boy to over 2 inches). *gulp* I don't want to do this anymore so the other, in short: they take the female parts and manipulate the hell out of them over a LONG ass span (9-18 months) to make them look like male parts.

My opinion: if he can concieve a healthy child despite his previous horomone treatments, then more power to him.

On Thursday, Oprah introduced Oregon resident Thomas Beatie to anyone who hadn't yet heard of him. Beatie, a transgender man who is legally male, is six months pregnant with his and his wife's child. La Winfrey called the expectant situation "a new definition of what diversity means for everybody."
And everybody, it seems, is interested. Over the past seven days, searches for "pregnant man" rose 26,879%. Demand for "thomas beatie" grew more than 3,000%. Interest in "oregon man pregnant" has swelled 461%.
As for the skeptics who typed "man claims he is pregnant" and "pregnant man?" into Search, we can answer: Mr. Beatie retained his female reproductive organs. Because he has a uterus, he can get pregnant and carry a baby to term.

In Buzz, some of the most popular articles from the past week focused on the bun in Beatie's oven. As we posted earlier, Boing Boing and Huffington Post were two of the first sources to surface with articles on the story. Since then, the Huffington Post scored another hit with an item revealing more photos of the fertile daddy.

LilSugar, Yahoo! News, and People.com have also polled well with Buzz readers. The People.com article, which offers an exclusive video clip from today's Oprah appearance, is fast on its way to being the most voted-on article in Buzz today.
So has this childbearing event really redefined what diversity means for everybody? The tale certainly seems to have people thinking about gender issues. We've noted a surge in queries for "transgendered" and "transgender pregnancy." Lookups for "pregnant man" have flowed in from every state in the U.S. and every age group.
With the fruitful papa about to enter his third trimester, we may have three more months of this baby buzz. Enjoy it!

When I first heard this crap, my common sense alert went off. I said, "A man having a baby?" A man doesn't have ovaries and a uteris. How can this be?"
It made no sense. But i kept hearing people say .."Man is having baby!" "First pregnant man!" Then I finally looked it up and guess what I find?? I WAS RIGHT!!

See.....the real shame is first in how this was reported!! Calling this person a man was just wrong to begin with. This person was born a FEMALE!!! SHE CUT OFF HER BREASTS BUT DIDN'T TAKE OUT HER INNER PARTS!

WOMEN HAVE BABIES ALL THE TIME!!! Good Lord have we just totally lost all sense of direction??????????? We can't even call a spade a spade anymore! This is not a man having a baby!!! This is a woman having a baby who, by the way, attached a penis to herself, cut off her breasts shot male hormones and forgot to remove her baby-making factory!!!

This nuts!!!

The media has no shame!

While I'm sure that there are some media outlets that might be pushing the politically correct "your gender is whatever you say it is" message, I guarantee the majority are proclaiming "Pregnant Man!" just for headline-grabbing purposes and to get people to click links.

But yeah, a pregnant trans-man is lot less interesting than the headlines would lead you to believe.

I don't think it's stupid, I find it fascinating in terms of society's gender concepts. Technically, the guy has "become" a man because we don't have a gender pronoun for someone who isn't completely one thing or the other. And he does have a penis...pretty cool in terms of physical make-up.

Was born a girl...thus is a girl. Surgery can give her the appearance of being a guy but deep down she is still a she...she's only fooling herself.

I'm sure sane people in the GLBT are distraught about the negative effects this is sure to have on people's perceptions.
