Christopher Nolan Signed For Batman 3?

Despite rumors to the contrary, it looks like Christopher Nolan may now indeed be signed to direct a sequel to The Dark Knight. The newest edition of Production Weekly went out this morning, and they list Nolan as the official director of Batman 3, along with Christian Bale, Morgan Freeman, Michael Caine, and Gary Oldman in the cast.

They further confirm some of the rumors which were swirling around earlier this week, listing Batman 3 as slated to go into pre-production in February of 2009. On Wednesday IESB.net attempted to debunk the rumors of the film’s imminent pre-production when they were told by a WB exec that the film “is not in pre-production and is not getting ready to shoot”. That’s not necessarily wrong. It’s not in pre-production and it’s not getting ready to shoot… right now. It will however be in pre-production this coming February.

Production Weekly is not normally prone to exaggeration. In theory, they get all of their information directly from official sources and not internet rumors. Still, it’s somewhat surprising that Warner Bros. would give that information to Production Weekly before they’re able to make a big, splashy announcement themselves. This Batman franchise is sort of a big deal after all.

I wonder how legit this is still. Isn't Nolan slated for another project at the moment?

There's nothing officially on his plate right now. Nolan has mentioned being interested in adapting the old PRISONER tv series into a movie, but a new miniseries about the same subject already in the works *may* have nixed that.

Yea his IMDB page lists nothing. I checked the Production Weekly website and you have to pay to access the page. However it does list it in it's subjects for this weeks issue.

I hope this gets validated soon. It'd be a pleasant surprise to find out a sequel is coming earlier than expected. It's looking to mirror the progress from SM1 to SM2.

If it's true... I guess Jonah Nolan and Goyer's idea for a third film really got Nolan thinking.

Or if not, it could be very well be one of Nolan's pet projects that will be shot in Chicago with the same crew that did BB and TDK. After all, Pfister, Crowley and Smith did collaborate with Nolan on BB, Prestige and TDK...

Nolan can totally work on another film (which I want him to) while Batman 3 is in pre-production. A lot of the day to day pre-production Emma can take care of, with Christopher giving input on the big decisions.

Call me Mr Skeptical but I seriously doubt pre-production would start as early as February.

I get the feeling "Production Weekly" is making an assumption.

Unless the statement is made by Warner Bros. or Chris himself...I wouldn't believe it.

Same here. Alot of people are jumping the gun with the rumor mill on this film, specifically, more than they did for TDK or even Begins. It wouldn't surprise me if this was just another facet of that.

Pre-production for TDK started the first half of 2006. In fact, they announced in January of 06 that would begin filming in 12 months.

i wanna believe but dont wanna get my hopes up

This CANNOT be true.

If it is, I smell a new director.

Chris Nolan has not finished decompressing from his Billion dollar success and Heath's death.

Well Production Weekly is an industry rag, and they don't tend to report on internet rumours. Usually they get the info right from the studio. However, they could have jumped the gun on a report made by a WB exec etc. And as the article points out it doesn't make sense that WB hasnt done a big flashy annoucement about this themselves. Personally I won't buy it 100% until it comes from WB itself either. But it is nice to get some indication that they are moving ahead.

TDK hasn't made $1 billion worldwide... yet.

And Nolan has gone on to make The Prestige, after doing publicity for Batman Begins' DVD release.

But I daresay he'll get a similar amount James Cameron received after Titanic hit it big, probably in the $100 million range once everything is said and done with.

I don't know what to think. I'm scared!

Well if this holds up I guess we'd be seeing the movie a lot earlier, like 2010 possibly?

If they did a full 12 months of pre-production it could still be 2011. I suppose it all depends how long they take the pre-production.

I would absolutely love this. I really wanna see a new Bat-flick out sooner than 2011. That would rock.

U knw what if you're doing a series like comics books and after the 1st movie is a hit...then they should really start planning these movies 2 be a trigology...set up the story in part 1 and that way part 2/3 would easily fall in2 place...if i was nolan i'd get part 3 out the way now and be done with the franchise...and that way he can focus on othe projects...i mean x-men 3 is a good ex...excellent sequel, but thnx 2 fox. The director left and we got an 1/2 ass movie, so hopefully this doesnt happen

No one ignored your post, we're all well aware of it and that's why this article got posted, to point out another source mentioning this rumor.

BUT

Keep in mind, there is always a chance you could be a yahoo the made that whole story up or someone b.s.'d it to you and then you posted it and then it spread across the Internet and now a reporter hurting for news leads just decided to throw it out there. Because that does actually happen.

Either way, you should be proud. If it turns out to be true then you were one of the first people to leak the rumor on the Internet. And if it turns out to be false then you spread a mass hysteria that managed to even make a movie industry news outlet. It's win-win for you.

IGN said something similiar about a week ago. The evidence mounts :joker:

or the hysteria. You know? The Joker casting may very well be down to Bettany and Hulme. And Cher is set to play Catwoman in the third film.
