Prometheus - Part 3

I understand people die in car accidents and my favorite movie death of all time
in The Departed is as sudden as they come.
With this I just felt nothing.

Final Destionation has that beat

"You could drop ****ing dead"
Then bam a bus hits her

I'm gonna have to disagree with you here. Respectfully though, as you added some reasoning as to why you didn't like Hicks and Newt dying. I love the unrelenting nihilism of the film. If anything it lines up more with the tone of Alien, than the pulp sci-fi tones of Aliens, Aliens just got away with it because it's literally one of the greatest movies ever made.

I, along with everyone else hated the idea of Hicks and Newt dying, but I respect their decision. The Alien franchise isn't Predator, or Terminator or Die Hard, it's as close to reality as 8 foot tall acid bleeding creatures will allow. Unfortunately in real life the amount of heroic Hollywood deaths can be summed up in a Cracked article, unfortunately people die very unceremoniously in real life, in car accidents, illness. That's it because it's supposed to be it. It's a testament to the power of the characters that 20 years on we still hate that they died.

On a personal level, space prison as a cinematic setting has always fascinated me, I can't think of a more appropriate setting to absolutely define complete isolation. Being locked in an inescapable metal box, in space where no one can hear you scream there's nowhere to escape to. I understand and agree that Alien 3 didn't make the best use of it's setting, but it's something that floats my boat.

That being said, it's an extremely polarising film and I certainly can't fault anyone for viewing as a negative part of the franchise.

Agreed. Alien should've gotten smaller. Scarier. Action was not the way to go.

See Alien Res-AvP-R. Alien NEEDS to be a horror film. If the director can do the action, and keep the tension up, then by all means, go for it.

But Alien should be a sexual, creepy, scary, mean spirited franchise.

But a bit of fun can be nice too. If done right.

We don't need to hear about your love life. :o

:awesome:

AvP should have been from one of the already existing comics. I liked the 1st? one with the chinese chick on the intersteller cow ranch..great story.

I agree. That story rocked.

It's absolutely beyond me why the AvP films didn't just milk the hell out of the already established books and comics.

One thing that worries me is that Prometheus may spoil some of the mystery of Alien. Some things are better left alone, left to the imagination.

I always thought of the Xenomorph as being highy evolved, existing on harsh conditions, adapted perfectly for survival and killing. Over a LONG period of time.

I think the consensus of thought with Prometheus is that its gonna turn out the xenomorph was genetically designed by the Space Jockeys. I dunno, that may spoil it a little for me. It's best not to explain too much. I mean, would the space jockeys only be in an early stage of designing the xenomorphs? That would be kinda lame, it would mean the xenomoprhs hadn't been around long at all.

I'll reserve judgement until the film though.

It could be cool to learn more about the space jockeys. Honestly, I think the first time I saw Alien (as a kid) the space jockey part went over my head. I think I figured it was just a xenomorph corpse.

That trailer breakdown was cool I didn't even notice the possible proto-face hugger in the containers that was brought onto the ship from the derilict or Rafe Spall wearing glasses as the red beam on the derilict like ship flashes.
Which proto-facehugger? Did I miss something?

Does someone have that picture with the Fassbender character wearing that retro-helmet?

I think he's talking about the gooey mass that Fassbender is examining; or the one inside that guy's helmet in the trailer.

That shot was proper unsettling. That screech in the score adds to it. I'd say it looks more like his face is melting or something though, rather than it being a facehugger.

I didn't get that it was a facehugger either. Looked more like the person's face was burning up.

Maybe he's changing/evolving into an alien.....? (Jockey variety, not xenomorph variety)

You mean a video game that took influences from Alien and Aliens? :o

Really? Of all the classic science fiction franchises that Mass Effect is clearly inspired by, I don't think the Alien is among them.
