Prometheus - Part 4

Well yea, I notice it doesn't look the same, but this supposedly shows the origin of the xenomorphs, doesn't it?

So I'm guessing it's some earlier form of facehugger.

Ya it is clear this is a prequel. I always knew it was, mainly because the interviews last year where the actors pretty much spelled it out. But now everyone is so hush hush about it. I think marketing wise they don't want people to role their eyes at another Alien film or something I dunno.

I mean I remember my friend and I talking about this and he just said if this was truly an original they would not be using Weyland Yutani, or the derelict, or the Space Jockey ect. It clearly looks like it will be an original story, but one that may lead up to the "beginning" of the Alien we know.

TV Spot just aired during The Walking Dead finale

First I lol at all the inception posts dont care what it says ut I see inception written in most of the posts and people were having a go at me for mentioning inception and saying that people will compare inception to this, they've already started on the trailer so mark my words they WILL still compare something/anything to inception because at the end of the day people just love to hate things.

Second of all I think everyone dies because no ones is going to make it back that's a fact. Actually Fassbender might because he's a droid.

Third Noomi may become the fossilised Space jockey?

Fourth Noomi should play Makoto in Ghost in the Shell movie, just saw all the sci-fi debate and thought who could play an awesome Makoto here we have it!

Even though it's using some similar elements, it's doing something different with them, hence it being a prequel to Alien and not necessarily an "Alien" prequel.

both GWTDT could be great for it:cwink:

Just got around to the trailer, visually stunning and intense, plus it didn't give too much away.

So any theories on the plot so far?

Personally I think the Space Jockeys basically "harvested" life forms on possibly millions of planets. These lifeforms only evolved if the planet was able to support life. Eventually after years of evolution the entire planet is home to an entire evolutionary tree of these lifeforms. The most intelligent species, genus, or what have you (being us humans in this film) end up finding out relics left behind by the space jockeys. However, it's pretty much a trap.

This leads us to the Space Jockey and lets them know that the planet they harvested on is habitable and they can expand their civilization and live there. The aliens/xenomorph come in because they are a biological weapon used by the Space Jockeys to wipe out animal lifeforms on the planet so their race can move into a new found home, Earth. Basically I believe they did inadvertently create us but only as an "alarm" or "timer" (so to speak) that the planet they had been watching for millions, if not, billions of years was finally ready to support their own race.

I think other alien civilizations also fell for the trap. In essence, our species and the xenomorphs are really just pawns in this master plan of the Space Jockey species expanding its civilization to other habitable planets.

making them aliens is the absolute perfect mistake. Because literally any other change could probably still be reasonable.

Want to make them goofy and not overly serious, but still have action? 80's Turtles
Want to make it more serious, actiony, but not gritty? 2003 Turtles
Want to make it darker, more serious, and gritty? IDW Turtles

Making them aliens is just literally pointless. It literally gets rid of half the title.

If they are aliens, they are not mutants, since that's what they normally are.
If they are aliens, they are not turtles, since they aren't from Earth.

Wrong thread. :oldrazz:

OR ... right thread & PowerPacked has uncovered the plot twist for Prometheus. The Space Jockey is actually Shredder & the crew of Prometheus gets turned into TMNT's at the end of the film and have to stop him getting to earth :wow:

You really should add the twin titans of Sunshine and Moon to that list.

Both are favourites of mine. Serenity, too.

Sunshine is great. I've never understood the hatred for the tonal shift in the third act.

Agreed.

I'm so hyped for this movie. My only fear is Lindelof and Fox's Rothman.

Science Fiction Movies isn't dead. There are some pretty good and decent sci-fi movies in the last 10 yrs.

Humans being an "alarm" is an interesting theory. I didn't think about that.

But yes, it seems clear that once humans or whatever species they created reaches the level of intelligence to seek them out in space, it triggers the need to wipe out that species with xenomorphs.

That's a crazy idea. But it seems the strange alien ship they found in the original film was headed to Earth and the xenomorphs were meant to destroy us. However, if it was meant so they could harvest our planet's resources, that seems odd considering they're waiting billions of years to find out if planets are hospitable and also there is the problem of xenomorphs. Given that one took out the Space Jockey whose skeleton they find at the beginning of Alien, means the creatures are very dangerous to the Space Jockeys. How would they intend to live on a planet full of billions of xenomorphs?

Interesting theory, I will say.

The trailer makes me wonder if Dr. Shaw becomes "infected" at some point in the film

Definitely appears so.

I wonder if Ridley goes back to the psychosexual aspects of O'Bannon's original Alien script, and has Shaw actually become impregnated by the Jockey....there's something about that shot of the Jockey looming over her while she's cowering on the floor that smacks of rape.

Has anyone wondered if the space jockey's underneath suit is a suit or his skin?

Just looking at the HD trailer it seems that what at first looks like a skintight suit is actually some kind of bio mech skin. It even glistens as if it had sweat or goo on it even though you can see the skin on the hands looks like normal skin.

I'm thinking that maybe the SJ race has some sort of organic armor like layer that further protects them from harsh environments sort of like some insects do. Asides from that they have their now classic SJ exoskeleton suit on top.

I can't stop watching this trailer. It's amazing.

Seeing the space jockey gave me chills, and I was never even a very big fan of this franchise (Alien was the only one I loved). Now I'm obsessed!

Almost like the international trailer more than the one we got yesterday.

It really is a great trailer and I'm glad they got a t.v spot in during The Walking Dead.

Here's the thing for people who are not so familiar with the aliens franchise how appelaing will this story be?

It looks like a cool movie but honestly most of the posts in this thread are going over my head now, since i've only seen a few of the alien films in passing.

Same here. The thing is, I don't think of any of the other films when I see the trailers for Prometheus--Yes, even Cameron's Aliens. This is its own thing and feels completely separate from giant mech suits and "bug hunts" for me. It's back to the Lovecrafitan horror of the first film where it's a completely alien Other presence that is incomprehensible to how we perceive things.

At least, I hope the movie is like that.

This is effectively "the beginning" so it shouldn't be hard to follow at all. It's the equivalent of the Star Wars prequel trilogy, to the originals.

To be honest, I liked the International trailer more than the full trailer. I gives more about the story and I loved the score for the trailer.

PS: I still expect an xenomorph at the end of the movie. I just think that Scott will surprise us with it.

If they're smart, the story should be plenty appealing as the things people are referencing aren’t enough to justify the movie not being able to stand on its own. The Space Jockey, for instance, is a deceased creature the crew in Alien stumble upon for a few moments as they investigate a derelict ship. That's it. It has no origin, and I don't believe it's mentioned again in detail in Alien, let alone the sequels.

I've seen all the Alien films and, save for a few references and visual similarities, most everything I'm seeing in Prometheus is just as new to me as it probably is to you.
