Prometheus - Part 4

Humans being an "alarm" is an interesting theory. I didn't think about that.

But yes, it seems clear that once humans or whatever species they created reaches the level of intelligence to seek them out in space, it triggers the need to wipe out that species with xenomorphs.

That's a crazy idea. But it seems the strange alien ship they found in the original film was headed to Earth and the xenomorphs were meant to destroy us. However, if it was meant so they could harvest our planet's resources, that seems odd considering they're waiting billions of years to find out if planets are hospitable and also there is the problem of xenomorphs. Given that one took out the Space Jockey whose skeleton they find at the beginning of Alien, means the creatures are very dangerous to the Space Jockeys. How would they intend to live on a planet full of billions of xenomorphs?

Interesting theory, I will say.
Well I'm guessing they have billions, trillions, etc planets they're doing this too. So in reality, there might not be much waiting. Besides, for the the first two billion years or so, Earth was a very hostile place and in no way could support complex multicellular organisms.
As for the xenomorphs, maybe they just wait until they all starve to death? I mean, whats a few thousand years in the grand scheme of things? :oldrazz:

such a great show...

I like Sean Harris character Fifield crazy head and face tattoos.

You can see them on the Empire Magazines shot by shot trailer breakdown.

Same here. The thing is, I don't think of any of the other films when I see the trailers for Prometheus--Yes, even Cameron's Aliens. This is its own thing and feels completely separate from giant mech suits and "bug hunts" for me. It's back to the Lovecrafitan horror of the first film where it's a completely alien Other presence that is incomprehensible to how we perceive things.

At least, I hope the movie is like that.
Exactly. While the scope of this one may look slightly more Aliens than Alien (only in that it's "bigger," really), the FEEL of it is right back in line with the original, and I love that.

yeah this is very true. its a big budget alien prequel. and we must be happy that Scott got a lot money. trust me this movie is insane expensive .and this is 2 years after the mega expensive Robin Hood movie underperformed .

I just love the tone and setting that the trailer invokes. This is the kind of sci-fi that really thrills me.

its the kind of scifi that hollywood needed. its the scifi that we the public need.

enough with bright movies and good looking actors from tv . enough. :cmad:

haha agreed. Proper, mind bending sci fi. And like DACrowe said, it's got that whole Lovecraftian, things man are not meant to know, vibe about it.

Oh I agree. I've been aching for this kind of movie.

Yep she is doing a English accent. It sounds pretty good too considering Noomi said she couldn't speak english a couple years ago.
Idris Elba's Southern American accent sounds a little sketchy to me but its not a big deal or anything :woot:
sounds like brad's one from IB lol

This is the first serious Sci-Fi film we have gotten in goodness knows how many years.
I don't count Avatar as real Sci-Fi, well from the point where I saw the floating mountains that is...

If you listen carefully by the end of the tv spot after the woman scream you can hear a creature scream....

It's satisfying to me knowing that I know very little about the overall story of this film. It's rare for me to go into a movie completely fresh. I applaud the filmmakers for keeping so much of the film under wraps.

Where does this fit into the Mass Effect universe? I heard it's a prequel to the games.

Bioware got sick and tired of hearing all the b*itch and whine from entitled fanboys about "ZOMG FALSE ADVERTISING!!!!1!" over the ending to ME3, that they commissioned Ridley Scott to make this film as an alt ending.

I find it so messed up how "fans" conveniently forget years of quality material from Bioware because of an ending that for all its blemishes is still better than most endings from most video games let alone trilogies.

Not to mention those same "fans" probably loved every minute of ME3 on up until the ending. "WHAT! This game/movie/book/tv show didn't end the way I wanted it to. I DEMAND MAH MONEY BACK FOR THIS GARBAGE"

So any theories on the plot so far?

Personally I think the Space Jockeys basically "harvested" life forms on possibly millions of planets. These lifeforms only evolved if the planet was able to support life. Eventually after years of evolution the entire planet is home to an entire evolutionary tree of these lifeforms. The most intelligent species, genus, or what have you (being us humans in this film) end up finding out relics left behind by the space jockeys. However, it's pretty much a trap.

This leads us to the Space Jockey and lets them know that the planet they harvested on is habitable and they can expand their civilization and live there. The aliens/xenomorph come in because they are a biological weapon used by the Space Jockeys to wipe out animal lifeforms on the planet so their race can move into a new found home, Earth. Basically I believe they did inadvertently create us but only as an "alarm" or "timer" (so to speak) that the planet they had been watching for millions, if not, billions of years was finally ready to support their own race.

I think other alien civilizations also fell for the trap. In essence, our species and the xenomorphs are really just pawns in this master plan of the Space Jockey species expanding its civilization to other habitable planets.
LOL, little do they know we've nearly drained the earth dry of fertile soil and nonrenewable resources. :hehe:

The Space Jockey being the bad guy still doesn't make sense considering in the first movie, they found that it was sending out a warning beacon. So for them to use the xenomorphs as a biological weapon doesn't make much sense if they didn't think to destroy them when they got out of hand...

Apparently/surprisingly, the original Alien still has a R-rating on US home video. But in many other jurisdictions, it’s been downgraded to (or always was) “PG13” (or approximate equivalent). Even if Prometheus (2012) has the same “intensity” as Alien (1979), it might not earn the same R-rating.
Dude...back in the day the ratings made no sense! Temple of Doom IIRC had a PG rating so I was like, "JEEZUS CHRIST! :wow:" when they showed Alfred Molina impaled in the face multiple times. Was not prepared for that. :oldrazz:

I'm a wuss when it comes to gore. I hope this will be PG-13. :o But unfortunately I think the MPAA cares more about nudity and language than gore and violence nowadays.

As a diehard fan of Alien/Predator, who has read the novels and comics, I can say with absolute confidence that The Space Jockey wearing the Antagonist 'suit' does not surprise me at all.

I remember reading somewhere regarding a temporary truce/alliance between the humans and Space Jockeys (or the Ossians) for the sole reason of halting the Xenomorph infestation. Apparently, in the off-chance they were successful in stopping the threat, the Ossians would then turn to their sights back to wiping out/enslaving humanity.

The Space Jockey's always fascinated me, I'm glad we're gonna get to know them a little better.

Wasn't the Space Jockey an alien bomber pilot or something?
