Prometheus - Part 9

Yes.

That was a REALLY big problem I had with the film. A major character that we were with gets killed off and it's not mentioned by anyone except a few throwaway lines from David and Shaw I think.

As you said no one ever called out Vickers. Isn't the very next scene Shaw waking up?

Why would they call out Vickers? It was her ship, her operation. She was running it, she warned them and Holloway clearly wanted to die.

Drama? She still burned a human being alive. They'd all been in the temple and didn't know about David "poisoning" Holloway. They might've all been infected and maybe only slightly worried...

Yeah as Valquen said he's still a human. At least Shaw shouldve done something, if someone burns someone else's husband alive (regardless if he wanted it) there most likely would be some conflict.

As far as the other members, she was willing to kill Holloway before Shaw even wanted it. At least one member would have something to say about that especially Shaw and Janek.

And it being "her operation" doesnt matter. People have stuff to say to their boss all the time

And what do people want? A confrontation between the crew of the Prometheus and Vickers (the big boss)? In her mind, she did what was necessary to ensure that the 'illness' did not reach the ship and spread.

Holloway gave Vickers permission to torch him. It's not like she murdered him in cold blood.

The guy was starting to not look human. You burn his ass where he stands. It is sentiments like this that get fools killed in these films. For Christ's sake.

The problem there is from that moment the pace of the film picks up, maybe too much for it's own good. Next thing we know Shaw is in the med bay and finds out she is pregnant, then we have the attack from zombie Fifield, then the C-Section.

It needed more room to breathe there so Hollaway's death didn't just come and go without a real impact on the characters.

Reiterating: They might've all been infected and maybe only slightly worried... Nobody (bar Shaw) is unnerved, bothered, nothing. Nada. For Christ's sake. (And sorta rich for a film where people do stupid things like wander off alone to get lost.)

Actually that is exactly why Vickers was right to do what she did. She should of torched them all really and left. Would have helped avoid the stupidity of what happened after.

And also it was supposed to be a scientific exploration mission, in the crew's eyes at least. And someone just died, you can't tell me that that wouln't be a big deal.

Oh that is stupid. But what would of been stupider was letting that fool back on the ship.

Not all of them were scientists though. The dozen or so nameless characters who turned out to be nothing but fodder were security of some kind weren't they?

1) How is that stupid? Be mature and don't just say "that's stupid" write out why it's that way. ANd i dont see how it's stupid to expect some kind of reaction to someone's death
2) I never said that they shouldve let hiim back on the ship

Yeah there was security and others, but still the primary purpose of the mission was scientific exploration, correct?

It's pretty obvious why it would be stupid to let Charlie back on the ship. He even realised it.

The scene itself was brilliant. It's just I think the film need a bit more room to breathe with the aftermath.

What is exactly is hard to understand? Someone is killed and yet everyone acts like nothing really happened after the scene. Not hard to understand that part of the stupidity of the script.

Wait are you saying:
it was stupid for the script not to address Holloway's death more
or that it's stupid that some of the audience wanted some kind of aftermath/reaction from the crew to Holloway's death

The former. It actually makes sense for there to be some aftermath. They just watched someone burned alive who was infected by something. I would be ****ting bricks and freaking out.

oh...well I'm agreeing with you on that. That was the point I was making that really big scene/climax of the 2nd act happened at it was kinda just pushed off to the side

Ah, I was more responding to Valaquen belief that some would actually be in the right to question Vickers's actions. An understandable misunderstanding..

I mean I still think, at least for the sake of some kind of conflict, that Shaw shouldve had a confrontation with Vickers about her actions, I mean someone kills your husband, euthanasia or not, most likely whether they're in the right or wrong there would be some conflict. Vickers could respond: "He wanted it" which is true but I still wanted to see that confrontation

That is understandable. I just would of wanted her to be put right back in her place. She was completely endangering all the lives of those on the ship.

Shaw was a bit zealoty really. The scene where they were examining the Engineer's head she was giddy with excitement. I think that made her realisation that meeting you maker isn't what it cracked up to be more compelling though. Her character changed due to the events of the story.

Her character changed? Not really. She was just as much an entitled brat at the end of the film as she was at the start of the film.

Yes, but she clearly wasn't as giddy and optimistic as she was at the start. The events, Charlie's death, the realisation that our creators are not very nice, changed her.

At the start she wanted to know why they created us and was really optimistic. At the end she wants to know why they want to destroy us and is now cynical and hate filled.

She wasn't hate filled at the end. Not close really.

i think on friday it will be 4 weeks since the movie is out.

i ask you.................where are the deep complex debates about the meaning of life and aliens creating humans?
