Prometheus - Part 10

What makes Alien the greatest is that, after an initial viewing of the film as merely a horror picture, subsequent viewings have essays and essays worth of psycho-sexual subtext to mule over. It is easily the 'deepest' film in the franchise.

Maybe its deep, I dunno. But when I sit down on a couch to watch a film I don't think to myself "hey, which film in my collection has the deepest psycho-sexual subtext to mull over?" :oldrazz:

I'd also add that the cinematography is still breathtaking. There are only a few moments in the film where the effects looked dated.

I love Aliens as an action film, but when you compare the two on a purely cinematic level, Aliens looks like a made for TV movie compared to Alien.
Of course. Its subtext lies in Ridely's godly cinematography and set design, only to ever be matched (or bettered) in Blade Runner. It certainly doesn't spell anything out for us in neat speeches like Prometheus (or Nolan films).

Alien and Aliens are just ridiculously well made in all aspects. Writing, directing, editing, acting, cinematography, so on and so forth.

Prometheus, not so much. I think the problems they are having with the sequel are a good indication of why.

I don't either. But it enriches a film beyond its initial viewing lifespan, in turn making it a cinematic classic, when you can pleasantly discover something you haven't in your previous dozen views.

I don't really see where they can take the sequel. Their story became pretty land-locked once they said it wouldn't connect closely with the Alien movies. Now they are really limited in what they can do.

That and they clearly didn't have a direction when they wrote the first film. Sounds a lot like Lost.

I think LOST did have a direction from the beginning: [BLACKOUT]the twist that the island is the afterlife and that all the characters are dead[/BLACKOUT]. But people guessed that twist was coming very early on in the show, so they took it in a more convoluted route, arriving at that same basic twist finally in Season 6.

They have already admitted they made it up as they went along.

Where? I remember them making repeated statements saying they had a plan always from the beginning. Did they admit that they lied then?

Prometheus was a huge disappointment to me as I was looking forward to it, but it's even worse than the AVP movies. Everything about it except for the visuals was just a giant cluster**** of epic proportions.

I hoped that they wouldn't make a sequel but at this point I don't really care. I'll always have the original 4 Alien movies.

Don't know what Lindelof has said, but many writers have confirmed it was made up as they went along. This makes sense when you here about the reported problems with scripting the Prometheus sequel.

This has always been my thinking as well.

It's weird how similar AvP and Prometheus is. The engineers were basically the role of Predators. Humans come in and basically screw up the whole thing. The mission is sponsored by an older man who is dying and is hoping to find a way to prolong death. The ending involves a fight between the two alien races.

Casting rumours:
How many of you liked PROMETHEUS? Show of hands? Yes sir, you in the back. You’re the only one??? Well, that’s great.
I for one loved Prometheus. Now, I didn’t go coo-coo for cocoa puffs crazy, I just really enjoyed the imagery and visuals and the fact that Ridley and team kinda went for it… PROMETHEUS, while tied to the ALIEN universe, is really its own movie and I appreciated the fact that they went somewhere completely different. Took some balls, I tell you. Giant, xenomorphic balls.
So whether you like it or not, coming in from Prometheus Sequel New is some info on the latest rumors developing from the proposed sequel that Ridley Scott is wanting to make. I personally feel like there is room for more movies and the way PROMETHEUS was set up, seemed to be the first movie in a trilogy that would ultimately lead to where ALIEN begins. Here’s a bit from the site:
“According to the source, Ridley Scott, who is still set to direct Prometheus 2 has apparently met many times with an English actor named Rik Barnett for an undisclosed role in Prometheus 2. The source adds that Rik’s potential role could be connected to Noomi Rapace’s character (Elizabeth Shaw).”

I know nothing of this actor but I trust Ridley wholeheartedly. I am more excited that there is some movement on the project. I really think fans of the series would be totally hosed is PROMETHEUS was the only movie we got in the series. It’s time Ridley was given the greenlight, if anything to establish more of a geek following for the prequel series rather than the obvious polarizing first entry. I mean, if there can be two ALIENS vs PREDATORS, there’s room for more PROMETHEUS–eses…
So head on over to the site to get the full story. And let us know what you guys think, Schmoeville! Do you want another PROMETHEUS??? Sound off below!

I liked, not loved the movie. It had just enough connection to the Alien/Predator series to make it apart of the universe without directly contradicting anything and at the same time giving some depth to it.

Obviously though it had plotholes and inconsistencies, not to mention the sheer idiocy of some of the characters, but I've come to expect people with genius intellect to suddenly lose it when convienent to advance a story.

Good to hear they're still moving forward on the sequel. I actually really liked Prometheus, so bring on the next instalment.

Yes, sequel's moving forward! Can't wait!

I'm excited for the sequel, as for the flaws from the first film, when the film came out there were some very good explanations, i even gave a few, stop trying to be spoon fed the answers and think more about them yourself. I hope Lindelof doesn't write this though.

Never heard of him, but it's not Lindelof so I'm down. Just give me the damn sequel already

He wrote Wally's upcoming "Transcendence"

Personally I think if Prometheus 2 happens Scott won't be directing it.
