^There is no DC for Prometheus in that set, makes me think this is going to be a double dip.

What did bother me was the stupidity and weak characterizations of a lot, well, most of the characters.
This, I think, is the one indisputable fault with the film. David was great, Shaw was good, and Holloway was okay. The rest belonged in a Paul W.S. Anderson movie- and no, not Event Horizon.

It's night and day when you compare it to Alien, in which the entire cast felt like real human beings with believable actions.
Yes, it is. One of the key differences is that the crew in Alien talk about plausible things- pay, food, and hypersleep. The crew of Promtheus either talk about the plot, or God, or try to declare their character types in single sentences ("I'm not here to be your friend", "Are you trying to get laid?" etc).

Nevertheless, Alien is unusually good at building plausible characters with an economy of dialogue. While Prometheus does it poorly, it is not unusual in this regard. At the risk of rekindling the controversy, the characters in "Aliens" are much broader and less plausible than those in "Alien".

Thanks for posting that- what a fascinating read. I'm really not sure that I like so much overt Christian allegory, or that the film is strengthened by having the ghost of Jesus' crucifixion lying underneath it, but that piece is a very good essay on the mythical elements that give structure to the plot.

It is perhaps a bit sad that some of that substance is blemished by some tinny dialogue and insipid characters. But the piece you linked to is a very thorough answer to the intellectually complacent people who scream about "lazy writing" and the lack of "answers".

I buy the whole Space Jesus thing, but to me it seems like the race that was on the planet they visited were diametrically opposed to the ones creating life. They did not wear similar clothing and seemed to be a different people altogether. The ones creating sentient life on Earth could have started the process 1,000,000 years ago, or if they were inhabiting a planet with no life, we are talking billions of years ago.

A lot can change in a billion, or even a 1,000,000 years. Maybe the intelligent-life giving race is now on the run, maybe they have evolved themselves to hate their own creations and want to purify the galaxy?

Just sayin.

Deaspite people thinking Scott may have changed his mind this confirms what Scott said on June 4, 2012.

Will there be an extended cut?

No, I think this is a good length. But that said, I think that now the fashion of actually putting out a couple of discs is here to stay, which will comfort you on all other kinds of conversation about how the movie was made. All you’ll really do is see extended scenes in the menu. Other than that I think this is a pretty good length, the dynamics of this are about right."

I'm not so sure we are getting an extended cut. Scott is usually up front about whether we are getting extended cuts, and if he doesn't want one we don't get one. The exception being Blade Runner and Alien which were both done by the studio without him. Now this could be like Kingdom of Heaven in which case it could be a while, but given the above quote and the inclusion of deleted scenes I just don't see an extended cut happening.

That was an interview before the movie came out though, I believe since he has said there will be a directors cut on BD as the movie hasnt performed as expected at the BO.

I certainly hope he has changed his mind.

Isn't it the case that a lengthy conversation between David and the Engineer was filmed? If so, then it is clear that footage exists that was not included in the cinematic release. The studio may well deny that a longer cut is in the works, so that they can dupe customers into buying both versions on DVD, but I am sure it is only a matter of time.

I don't know if this has been mentioned yet, but an interview that Collider did with Ridley on June 10th, Ridley says that his first cut of Prometheus was 2hrs, 27 minutes. Also that the Blu Ray/DVD should have around 20 to 30 minutes of deleted scenes. Here:http://collider.com/ridley-scott-prometheus-deleted-scenes-interview/172202/

Also we've seen those deleted images from the beginning that had a lot of Engineers with the Sacrificial Enginner, and as Regwec said they filmed a scene of David talking with the Engineer, so I think they've got to be releasing an extended cut. I wonder though if they might not put any of the deleted parts back in the film, and just leave them to be viewed seperately? I can't wait do get it on dvd. I hope they have a segment where they talk about the creature designs for Prometheus, and I can't wait to hear the commentary.

No scientist would approach that thing like it was a puppy. Hell no semi competent human being would approach that thing.

Especially since he ran from another (dead) alien prior.

Hey guys, I was lookin through an issue of National Geographic recently and found a picture in the article that I thought was kinda eerie since, Prometheus wasnt ever mentioned and it was about ancient religions.

engineers.png

Just thought it looked a lot like the Engineers

Hah! I can see exactly why you associates the two images- good catch!

There are people in the world who would, I agree the scene and character werent acting the best but someone like Steve Irwin would have approached that thing the same.

HBO's Game of Thrones

Kane made the avatar for me but the image itself was taken from Game of Thrones.

OH!! I haven't started season 2 yet. Interesting, thanks!
Sorry for the offtopic.

I really like the cover of the dvd. Sometimes they make new ones, which are often terrible, but that poster from the movie is great.

I cannot wait to own this on blu-ray. I still think it may be my personal favorite film of the summer so far.
