No.Truly disgusting cinematography.
The use of digital is precisely to distinguish this film from past gangster movies like The Untouchables in particular. The sleek, realistic look that the digital cinematography gives the film is to create a more interactive and visceral experience, which reflects Mann's intent for the movie.I'm not a fan of the "digital handheld" look for this film. I thought I wouldn't mind it, and it worked in Miami Vice, it just does not work with Vintage 1920-30's environments.

It's cool Mann decided to film on location. It sounds like the actors loved it, too.
Anybody else think Bale looks at Depp in a strange way?t:
two of the best actors of their generation!!![]()
It makes everything seem so immediate, like we're not watching history, but something that's happening right now, only...back then, if that makes any sense. Kind of like great-looking home movies of the past, if we could go back in time with a video camera.
I loved the opening scene, but later on in the movie there were spots where it seemed too sharp and too real. Certain scenes had shots that you could tell were digital while the next shot you couldn't...it just seemed like something was off and took me out of the movie a bit. It felt like you were there while they were filming it, instead of you being in the time and place where the story is being told.
