Uh, Dillinger was definitely not a loser in real life; he was about as suave and cool as it gets. This guy sounds like he doesn't know what he's talking about.

I have to agree, given the man's notoriety and fame, why in the hell would someone describe the character as a loser?

'Cause he didn't disappear into the ether and live quietly, but rich-ly, on a farm in Iowa? Instead he let a bunch of cops get the drop on him. So, if it was a game, he lost.

Having said that, we're discussing him and there's a movie about him. Neither will probably happen to me when I'm done on this Earth.

Ebert's all over the place with his reviews so I can't say I care too much for his opinion, but I know his reviews carry weight with a lot of people on this board so I'm pleased to hear he liked the movie.

Reviews I've read so far indicate that Dillinger knew or at least suspected that the life he was leading was going to end in tragedy. He was just determined to enjoy what time he had to the fullest.

The review also said it was more of a romance story between Depp and Cotillard and the other characters dont really do much

rotten tomatoes fails so badly. somehow saying that a moive is a good film but not a great film means its a bad film. they make that mistake in rating many of the reviews the tomatometer for this film should be much higher

I've been reading a bunch of reviews, and sadly I still haven't seen mention of Wenham. Stephen Graham has a slightly larger role, though, and I've seen him mentioned in a few reviews as one of the standouts.

That's why I prefer Metacritic. They only use the "proven" critics, and score them based on how positive or negative a review was, instead of just "Fresh or Rotten."

Lots more reviews are out, and it would seem that most of the major critics have liked it so far. Here are some of the new ones:

Rolling Stone (As we already knew, Travers freakin' loved it)

The Chicago Tribune (Phillips liked it, but with reservations.)

And of course, it's already been posted, but in case anyone missed it, Roger Ebert.


Mixed/Negative-

The New York Post (Lumenick hates it, but he's never been a Michael Mann fan...)
The Boston Globe (very mixed, says the real weak spot is the script)
The Philadelphia Inquirer

Good enough for me . It's a little dissapointing to hear about Bale's role but Depp should be engaging enough to make this worthwhile.

Basically Ive been hearing: "Meh"

Everybody praises the performances (esp. Crudup's) and the set pieces, but alot say the characters were one dimensional and uninteresting and how they dont go deep into any of the characters
