Quentin Tarantino's Once Upon a Time in Hollywood

Just making a bunch of excuses for terrible actions so some can sleep eaiser as they can assign a label or a reason for why someone did something horrific, there are just some terrible people in the world, same as there are good people in the world, it's not all super deep, it's just the nature of the beast differs from person to person, like with animals.

I never said I wanted to absolve him. I guess I'm the only one here interested in the larger questions.

What would you prefer us to do with known sexual predators who flee justice?

Roman Polanski rape victim knocks Quentin Tarantino for saying she 'wanted it'

Samantha Geimer says Quentin Tarantino was wrong to say that she wanted to have sex with Roman Polanski when he raped her at 13 years old in 1977.

Geimer recently spoke to The New York Daily News about the resurfaced audio of Tarantino’s interview with Howard Stern, where he is heard saying he didn’t believe Polanski had raped her, but had just had sex with a minor.

“He was wrong. I bet he knows it. I hope he doesn’t make an ass of himself and keep talking that way,” Geimer said. “I’m not upset, but I would probably feel better if he realizes now that he was wrong, after 15 years, after hearing the facts.”

Tarantino recently came under fire for the 2003 audio in which he says Geimer “wanted to have it and dated the guy” when she was 13. The director doubles down when Stern and co-host Robin Quivers argue that it was wrong given her age: Geimer “was down with this,” Tarantino says. The director also says he doesn’t consider statutory rape as serious as rape, saying Polanski only “had sex with a minor. That’s not rape.”

“He is obviously incorrect. Hopefully by now he knows that it didn’t happen that way,” Geimer responded. “It’s not a big deal to me what people think. It doesn’t make a difference in my life. I know what happened. I do not need other people weighing in on what it’s like getting raped at 13.”

God, poor woman having to listen to Quentin's bull**** coming to light.

Honestly it's pretty shocking that Stern interview wasn't a bigger deal when it aired. I mean even for Stern's show someone getting that nutty is pretty remarkable.

Agreed, though obviously with the witchhunt going on currently (and rightly so) old interviews and statements like this are being seen in a new light.

It was a pretty sick thing for Tarantino to come out and say.

Statement from Tarantino

I want to publicly apologize to Samantha Geimer for my cavalier remarks on “The Howard Stern Show” speculating about her and the crime that was committed against her. Fifteen years later, I realize how wrong I was. Ms. Geimer WAS raped by Roman Polanski. When Howard brought up Polanski, I incorrectly played devil’s advocate in the debate for the sake of being provocative. I didn’t take Ms. Geimer’s feelings into consideration and for that I am truly sorry.

So, Ms. Geimer, I was ignorant, and insensitive, and above all, incorrect.

I am sorry Samantha.

Quentin Tarantino

It's a good statement, and about all he could say.

I think that what happened with the Polanski thing is that Tarantino is a movie nerd to end all movie nerds and he was going to the mat to defend someone who has made classic films. You add that to the fact that he's on the Howard Stern show which is not an environment that breeds sensitivity or any kind of clear headed thinking on that sort of subject matter and you end up with Tarantino talking out his ass. It doesn't excuse what he said and I am glad he released a statement, but I think it's possible to look at where the statement came from.

He played devil's advocate? Sure...

Also didn't mention anything about his assumption that a 13 year old can't be raped if she "wants it".

You know Tarantino's publicist and/or manager forced him to make that apology over the Howard Stern interview. He probably didn't even type that up.

:whatever: He didn't.

His apologies mean nothing but lip service. He's just want us to forget so we can get excited again about his next movie.

So what else do you want from him tho?

What kind of punishment should he get for his stupid words from 15 years ago?

Yeah anything he does at this point will be considered a PR move lol

The internet has Tarantino's blood in the water and nothing short of seeing his career obliterated will sate them. Tarantino messed up big time with Uma and he said some idiotic and offensive stuff about Polanski, but the reactions coming out about it are as if he had raped that 13 year old himself and then later in his career personally cut the brake line and sabotaged the car Uma Thurman was driving.

He seems to be apologizing for saying that Samantha Geimer wasn't raped. Which while true, avoids what he said about the consent of a 13 year old girl. He also attempts to avoid holding those views by claiming he was simply playing devil's advocate.

So yeah, that isn't all that great imo.

Well, you have to question what someone is willing to do when he things a 40 something year old man can't rape a 13 year old girl he gives drugs and alcohol to, if she "wants it".

Sweet lord.

The Uma and choking stuff did not stick and he now apologized. What more do you want? So he did not apologize in a manner that was suitable to your taste, so what.

He could have owned it. He didn't. It would still be PR, but owning is better then clear PR speak. He is deflecting from what he said, much like his defenders are deflecting from what he said.

What exactly do you want? To be able to anticipate his next film in peace? Do it, no one here is stopping you. But sweet lord is this a lot of crying over what Tarantino did to himself. As if all that matters here is the poor rich man can live and make his movies in peace.

Oh and on another note, yeah if someone, man or woman, said what he said about 13 year olds, I'd make sure to keep my kids away from them and warn everyone I knew about it.

He was running his mouth like an idiot on a show that actively promotes salacious discussions and subject matter. He ****ed up. No doubt about it. The internet, though, is lumping him in with genuine sexual abusers and rapists. It's not the same. It's one dude letting his ass overload his mouth. He's been set on fire for it and apologized. What more can he do? Anything he does going forward is going to have the angry mob accusing him just doing PR to save his skin. It's a lose-lose.
