i watched transformers as a kid, but i was like 4...so i have a really vague memory...but did Megatron kick his ass the whole time like he did in the movie? Optimus got absolutely owned.

I wouldn't say he got "owned".

Megatron was only shown in the final battle, much like Starscream, so they had to be shown as powerful foes.

And when you look at when Lennox and the other Army dudes were trying to kill Blackout, you can see Optimus throw some good punches in.

Really?? I guess I never did see Optimus fight Blackout.

what he meant was, when you see Lennox and co. try to attack Blackout, you see Optimus get some shots in on Megatron. It's in the background as Blackout is sneaking up. Optimus never fought Blackout.

i still think optimus got ****ed up by Megatron, and sad part was that optimus and soldiers and air force backing him up

Yeah........:csad: At least Ratchet and Ironhide got some badass action!:woot: :trans:

they did well, i loved how starscream effed both of them up, and ironhide sounded like he was dying when he told Sam to keep going

I have one question about the movie. Why did Optimus only use the sword once?

You'd have to ask the people behind it. Maybe it's not strong enough to cut through Megatron's skin/armor, but he jabbed it into Bonecrusher's neck which was filled with smaller, likely weaker, parts.

Kinda glad they didn't make it an axe though. That would've looked silly.

optimus never really wanted to hurt megs to be honest, i didn't get the impression he put his heart and soul into that confrontation.

that's because he *****slapped bonecrusher pretty easily.

I never really thought of it like that before. I do see everyone else's point too, especially the money thing. I am glad that the sword didn't get over used, I just wanted some explanation about it.

Surely a sword is easier to animate than a whole moving fist, surely?

I think megs is more hardcore than optimus which is fine because he is actually built for war while optimus was assembled for construction (or something along those lines) but still optimus didn't put his heart and soul into tearing megs a new one.

but still optimus didn't put his heart and soul into tearing megs a new one.
I looked at it as Optimus not wanting to put any nearby innocents in danger. If Optimus decided to go all out against Megs there'd be buildings falling apart all over the place, placing everyone nearby in danger.

As we all know, Optimus is a defender of humankind, that's just how he rolls.

Optimus was trying to get Megatron to see the error of his ways for the most part, by saying that the humans had rights, etc. He wouldn't fight if Megs actually turned over to his way of thinking, but of course that wasn't happening. Megatron was out to kill Prime along with the rest of them.

Meh...the writers made this version of Optimus play second fiddle to Shia...simple as that. :down

agreed...
hopefully in the sequel we will see the transformers get more screen time/characterization..

People keep saying this... now I love Optimus so much I'll probably name my son after him but I've seen this movie TONS of times and I swear there is only ONE time you see OP get a backhand in on Megs. Oh, and he gets a shot in with his pea-shooter right before Megatron shows him HIS cannon.

We all have our gripes about this movie but for getting SO much right, they got this SO wrong. I mean, THE SINGLE greatest line in the movie "...one shall stand, one shall fall" and the camera is on Sam crawling on the street? :whatever:

Bay is a budget minded director. Too much CGI = overbudget = less profit.
That is utterly ridiculous...

and this here, what happened with Prime and Megatron is just a common cinematic technique. It doesn't matter who's the stronger Transformer or if Optimus Prime is your favorite character, they used a common bad guy vs good guy vs good guy scenario.

The first pair off and fight and the bad guy clearly has the advantage and right before a crushing blow, he's taken out by our other good guy. Heck, the movie already did this a few times earlier (i.e., Sam + Mikaela vs Frenzy or Sam + Bumblebee vs Barricade).

So, if you're upset that Prime didn't get as many licks in, well, that's your opinion and it may be justified. The idea I got was that they wanted Megatron to appear completely unbeatable as to heighten the stakes with the cube and increase the tension, so that when he's taken down by Sam and the jets, that it creates a more powerful moment. Also, you need to take into account how Megatron was introduced earlier. If he wasn't as powerful as they said he was before, Prime and his Autobots could've taken him out a long time ago, so I still think it works out in that sense to make him incredibly formidable and more combat effective. Heck, even though Bonecrusher was taken out by Prime earlier, that was after Prime still took a few hits, so.. [/rant]
