If only there was some song that perfectly summed up just how down-hill today's R&B has fallen.
Oh wait! There is!

Go to hell, Sean Kingston!![]()
Have you heard his others song on The Evolution of Robin Thicke?
They are good. Btw, I really don't like "Lost Without You," and it was played on the radio every 10 minutes.
I also recommend his older stuff (before he cut his hair). Here is a song that he made that alot of people have heard before, but probably didn't know that Thicke actually did it (back when he wasn't that popular):
heh, i remember that video, pretty good too. did'nt know that was him on the back. but yeah lost without you, just hurts my ears.
I like Rap when it's wicked, but I loathe "R+B", 'cause the freaking singers couldn't stay on one note for more than 1.8 seconds if you held a gun to their heads.
For examples, please note every time Whitney Houston or some "R+B" singer sings "The National Anthem" and it takes them 30 seconds to sing the word "Oh".

Me drooling on the floor.
Now, people hating rap and hip-hop is somewhat understandable. But why do some people hate R&B, I mean it's just singing.
That's a hard question.
I don't know how to answer it. If you mean by songs being serious and with alot of soul, then yeah. I think it's the best R&B album as of late. I think we both have similar tastes in music, and I never liked "Lost Without You" either, but I did like the rest of the album. If you have iTunes, browse through the album. I recommend downloading the album (because some of the samples from iTunes do no justice), then judging from there.
Did you happen to like this song?
Most modern R&B can't sing. Pro Tools and layered vocals "sing" for them. The "music" is made of up prepackaged beats that are as organic as plastic. The lyrics are filled with phrases so trite and cliched they literally hurt my brain.
That's why I hate R&B.

The entire genre?
I understand hating this generation of it, but as a whole, there was and still is some really quality stuff. Yes, today, we only have a few that can actually sing, and we are reduced to T-Pain "Mr. Computer Enchanced Voice", men who only slur/lengthen their words to appear as singing, and women who just talk sexy, all accompanied with a good beat, but you seriously hate all of it (the entire history of R&B)?
And to be fair from a lyrical P.O.V., most R&B is no worse than today's rap/hip-hop and rock. In order for some of the R&B to be cliched, they had to have originated from somewhere. hence back in the day when R&B (as a whole) was good, a.k.a. the 90's.
There are good and bad songs in every genre, but generally speaking, if you want to know why I might b**** about R+B, listen to an R+B singer doing their repulsive rendition of the Star Spangled Banner.
I hate singing where it's ALL flourishes. It seems the person would rather die than sustain ONE FREAKING NOTE for longer than a second.
The style of singing has become sort of like the Heavy Metal guitarists of the 80's, where the musicality and melody of your playing was irrelevant. It was all about how FAST you could play.
For many of these singers, it's all about how many vocal gymnastics they can do and how high they can go, etc.
It's so annoying, again, WHEN it's like that.
Like that "bluesy" "soulful" s*** Christina Aguilera does.
NO ONE can deny it, she has a mountain of talent.
But I've actually tried to watch her sing and can't. It's so, so embarrassing...because of that damnable vocal gymnastics thing.![]()
You forgot about ones that are "I'm sick if you" and "You did me wrong".What does most R&B consist of today?
- Girl/Boy, I can do you better than he/she can
- That stripper is hot
- Can I buy you a drank at the bar?
Though most songs focus on relationships and dating, it's become pretty much those three things as of late. Though I must say about half of it has come down to "I just wanna **** you" as opposed to "I want to be yours."
Old Scool R & B is ****ing kickass:
Stevie Wonder
Bob Marley
Barry White
Sam Cooke
The Supremes
The Temptations
The Four Tops
Kool & The Gang
I can go on for hours.
Modern R & B, however, is no different from a lot of rap. It's basically rambling on and on about sex and ass to me.
