The Dark Knight Rack 'em uuuppp! The TDK Award Tracker

And so it begins....

*spits out drink* what what whaaat????

*cries*

So, from the ten or so movies that were supposed to be getting more best picture "Oscar buzz" than TDK, Changeling and Body of Lies got mixed reviews, Australia seems to be getting decent but non-enthusiastic reviews (82% ar RT with 11 reviews, average rate only 6,5). The only one that seems to be corresponding to early buzz so far is Frost/Nixon, with 91%.

Just the fact the studio is investing this much on campaigning for it shows how TDK differentiates itself from other blockbusters/superhero movies. No studio campaigned that much for even great superhero movies like X2 or Spider-Man 2 or now Iron Man.

That's a massive drop, yikes.

Up to 71% now. I think it'll be bouncing back and forth until enough reviews come in to stabilize it. Right now there's only 14.

Even so, with an average rate in the 6 range it´s hard to imagine it will ever get to enthusiastic praise. I think we can discard this one from the potential best picture list.

Australia didn't look good from the trailer, same thing with doubt...

I wonder how the Academy will approach this as regards reviews, I mean if they go solely on critical response they may have to nominate TDK, which I am sure they'd rather not do.

^My feeling is, if the Academy intents to sustain any relevance in modern popular culture, to overlook TDK would be a fatal mistake.

Why not? It's not like it was directed by Michael Bay or Uwe Boll and by some miracle was a terrific movie. :lmao:

We'll have to see which critics societies will nominate TDK. More knowledgeable people will have more to say about that, but I've heard it mentioned. Also mentioned is the BFCA score, which has apparently always been a good Oscar nomination gauge. By TDK's BFCA score alone (96!), I feel pretty safe that it will at least be on a nomination shortlist.

And I also think they'd rather have people watch the Oscar broadcast this year, in which case it would behoove them very muchly to nominate TDK. :oldrazz:

Ive heard that said, just colour me cynical though Ultimate.

B/c It's still a movie in the bastard stepchild genre in their eyes IMO.

Great word usage! :applaud

But just the fact there´s actual, serious Oscar buzz around this movie is a unique accomplishment. X2 didn´t get it, SM2 didn´t get it, IM didn´t get it.

God, I really hope it's nominated. Hell, if it's nominated but doesn't win it will be the comic book film that really "changed things forever."

I still don't see why the academy can't nominate the film. It's been praised by critics. And usually when the critics agree, so does the academy. Yeah, I know they're a bunch of stuck up and snobbish people. But before they says, "It's a comic book film" and dismiss it, how about actually pikcing up a goddamn comic book and see what they are actually about.

It's a different story than it was 6 months ago, the competition has fallen by the way side, in the wake of a rather poor year for film, and for the Academy to have any relevance anymore, TDK has to be seriously looked at, they may be reluctant, but the fact is this is one of those rare films that single handedly changed how cinema is made, in this case the June/July blockbuster, and on top of that there was near unanimously praised by critics and audiences. At worst it deserves nomination.

Just goes to show that Superhero movies don't have to stick to a certain formula. They have to start evolving or run the risk of going the way of the Western, TDK is the start, hopefully others will follow.

Or they could just see it for what it is, a great movie. It's origin is not important.
