Raimi, cut that news reporter lady OUT!!!

I think she should have been left in just should have had Venom kill her to get rid of her and to show how evil Venom really is
I don't know. I see Venom as more intelligent and would probably just hold onto her to get his way. Maybe kill her, but that's definitely Carnage's style. Venom just wants to kill Parker, Cassidy wants to kill anyone.

I liked it, it made it more fun to watch. Either way, it was minor, and all but forgotten once the battle gets underway.

The flag bit irked me though, but it's inclusion fits with the movie Spider-Man, as in the flims, he is an "american hero". Still bothered me, same with the "all that stuff" line in SR. Superman is the American Icon, Spider-Man is the underdog hero. The movies seemed to reverse that.

That's what I've been thinking ever since the spiderman day celebration. In the first one they wanted him arrested as he was going in to save a baby in a burning building. Now they cheer if he swings by.

Yeah, that's kinda the point of Spidey 3; the public finally begin to see him for the hero he is, and the adulation overwhelms him.

She was clearly the worst part of "Spider-Man 3." And that's saying something since in my humble opinion, "Spider-Man 3" was as it already was, the weakest link of the series. What the hell was Sam Raimi and company thinking when they decided to write in a lisping, wooden (albeit mysteriously hammy at the same time) acting, British airhead television reporter. If I was Tobey Maguire and company, I would've been laughing my rear end off at Ms. Gordon's performance. Lucy Gordon is to the Spider-Man movies what Sofia Coppola was to "Godfather III."

Now Im one of the few that actually admits to liking this movie, but she really took me out of the whole experience of the last battle.

She really annoyed me.

Hardly. :whatever:

agreed, what the hell was Raimi thinking?

I honestly don't know what he was going for by having a reporter doing play-by-play commentary...

If he just kept it "real" i.e. focusing on Spidey fighting the villains...like he did with the Goblin and Ock Battle then I think it would've been much improved.

agreed

I hated all the newscaster scenes, they might as well of had a spinning newspaper segue and a dude in a fedora going, "Item! Spidey to engage in fisticuffs with a rube and a ne'er-do-well!"
Haha.

A lot of people, including myself hated the female British reporter, Jennifer Dugan who covered the final fight scene. To me, outside of the horrific acting by the actress, what logic would it serve for reporter with an obvious British accent to be working for a New York based news station? Am I missing something here? Granted, Peter Jennings was Canadian for instance, yet he anchored the ABC (American Broadcasting Company) evening news for many years. But still, what happens in "Spider-Man 3" seems a bit too far fetched even for a comic book.

I HATED her as well, but after watching the film again today I didn't mind her that much before the fighting started. When Spidey came swinging in and she said something like,"He's here to answer the prayers of the city, just when all hope seemed to be lost!" The music is playing, the crowd is cheering and when she said that,it might have been cheesy, but it kinda made me wanna cheer as well,it that makes any sense? It was a great "goosebumps" kinda moment.
However, once Spidey arrived then she should've never been on screen again, either of those reporters for that matter. That was Venom and Sandman's time to beat the hell out of Spidey. If it was one long continuous fight scene, without the reporters or the kids, then it would've made the fight appear so much more brutal and with more drama.
Remember how great the whole train fight was in Spidey 2? That's because it was just about Ock and Spidey. Imagine if they had cut from the fight every minute to show Mary Jane eating lunch or Aunt May knitting? It would've have RUINED the moment. The same kinda thing happened with Spider-man 3's ending fight.

You can't be serious.

Why on earth did Raimi leave in the terrible female news reporter talking about the final fight scene?

Her embarassing comments recieved mocking laughter both times I watched the movie.

Good call, earlier version of myself. That woman is ****ing annoying.

Obviously it's there through the fight that Harry is watching it on TV. But they should have gotten a much better actress.

The news anchor was just as bad.

I mean, did David Letterman really need a job that badly?? ;)

I agree. The only TV reporting that should stay in the 3.1 DVD is that showing Peter & Harry watching TV reports of the hostage scene. Otherwise, all the other TV reporting scenes during the final battle should be deleted, plus all the kids' scenes, especially JJJ & the girl.

That reporter certainly did take away from the final battle, which really sucks. It killed the pacing, and what was supposed to be an epic scene was turned into something cheesy.

The final battle would have worked just fine if they had shown the crowd's reaction to Spidey getting his butt handed to him by Sandman and Venom. Even a simple "Oh my god!" from the reporter would have been better than what we got.

Her commentary was just too much. I thought it was just fine when she was describing the hostage scene, but once Spider-Man arrived to save the day, she got really annoying.

Yeah, I'm really not sure what Raimi was thinking with the "It's hard to believe what's happening" bit; you don't really need any exposition for Sandman killing Spidey, it's pretty self-explanatory.

exactly

Although the same thing happened between Goblin and Ock in the previous films, does anyone think this fight would've been alot better at some isolated place, away from bystanders? I hate how every few minutes we had to cut to a crowd shot of people with their "ohhhhh's and awwww's."
I never thought about this untill now but it would've been cool and another handicap to Spidey if either Venom of Sandman had tried to kill or injure people in the crowd to try and distract Spidey. I don't think Sandman was evil at all,but Venom was. How about Venom throwing some steel beams into the crowd below? So not only would Spidey have to worry about surviving the fight and saving MJ,but he would also be worried about the crowd. I would think that would be a huge advantage for Venom/Sandman?
