Sam Raimi Talks Spider-Man
Source: ComingSoon.net
June 5, 2008

ComingSoon.net/Superhero Hype! talked to "Spider-Man" franchise director Sam Raimi this week and got his thoughts on making more sequels.

"James Vanderbilt is writing the script and I'm excited to read it. I think it's going to be done in a few months," Raimi told us, adding, "I'm hoping it's as great as our discussions were about it and I'm hoping it feels right for me because I love Spider-Man. I'm hoping I'm well rested enough to embrace it and I'm hoping Sony wants me to do it. If all of those things come together, I would love to do it. There are a lot of unknowns about the future."

And how does he feel about re-casting key players if needed? "I'd hate to re-cast anybody in the future, I can't imagine that."

In related news, ShockTillYouDrop.com also talked to Raimi about the proposed Evil Dead remake and rumored 30 Days of Night sequel. You can read more on those here!

Keep raimi away from SM..... lets get new blood

That's encouraging(?)

Personally I'd love Sam to return. But this is still the same kind of who knows talk that we've been getting for a year now.

and I guess the script isn't done yet.

Cuz I don't want to encourage raimi's return cuz I don't want him to return I want new blood.. A new director who will brush spideys shoulders off after the monstrousity of SM3

Seems those rumors about Vanderbilt completing the script are comatose now.

Not really. Maybe he completed a first draft and the studio is just giving notes now.

Yea they don't always go witht the 1st draft

I feel a bit perplexed regarding the opinions of those who want Raimi gone simply because SM3 didn't live up to expectations yet, they loved the first two movies. I think that is being too harsh on the guy if you actually loved sm1 and 2.

I however, do want a new director and actors because the 3 spidey movies just didn't do it for me but saying that if I had a cast and director who I thougt made 2 good movies and dropped the ball with the third, I wouldn't have such animosity or contempt for said director to the extent some here have for Raimi.

Or he's working on a new draft.

And I'd love to see Raimi return to the franchise. His version of The Lizard (hopefully with this film) is something I've wanted to see for a very long time.

Agreed. That articles saddens me because it looks like Raimi wants to direct another one. Keep in mind he only wanted to direct one sequel. WTF Raimi? Your time has come and gone. Thanks for a good job, pass the torch.

It's not that. I put all 3 movies at about the same level. Now it's time for a much needed different take. Raimi is not the only director that has a passion for Spider-Man and is capable of directing.

Look at the Harry Potter series, one that arguable gotten better with each installment, and how many different directors? 4?
I'm not saying we need 4 directors for Spider-Man but I'm dying for a different take.

I want interactions between characters OUTSIDE the Bugle that are enthralling. I want a smartass live Peter Parker.

They've got the web-slinging down but how about some wall crawling?

I want to finally see Spider-Man fight like a Spider. Scenes that finally show just how amazing Spider-Man's speed and agility really is. I don't even want to get into the Dr. Octopus fights because they annoy me sometimes. The fights were amazing, yes, if Spider-Man was a boxer and Dr. Octopus had super strength. Talk about my dreams of seeing Spider-Man bounce all over the screen dodging his tentacles until that final fight where he delivers that knockout blow.

*sigh* If Raimi is going to direct another Spider-Man, and wants to keep Tobey, I guess we won't be seeing a confident, wisecracking and not wimpy sounding Spider-Man any time soon.

That's exactly what I want to see in a Spider-Man movie.:spidey:

I hope raimi returns, I want all of them to return for the next trilogy :woot:

We wont see something like this as long as Raimi is the Director of this Franchise.

Yeah..I guess so...That's why I'm more interested to see a new Director, with new ideas for this franchise!

Sony needs to can this crew already. Yeah you gave us the best comic book franchise to date... but I am not living in the past like some other people are... after the fatally flawed crapfest that was SM3 these guys don't deserve another go around... I don't need to see a 34 year old Parker crying, dancing, and whimping it up. I don't need to see crack head and snaggle tooth Kirsten Dunst getting kidnapped and screaming (no wonder she got bored with the role)... and I don't need Raimi watering down the material and characters keeping everything a campfest just the way Sam likes it... I need new blood in there. The past remains in the past and it's time to move on.

Good to hear Sam still wants to do it. Looks like he's still has the passion for Spidey films.

Well, Raimi is still in the "maybe" phase, but at least he's looking at the screenplay. That tells me he's interested in returning, and that makes me happy. :)

I am so torn concerning this news. I have faith in Raimi. I don't think he can ignore the fanboy backlash over SM3. So SURELY he will examine what he did differently in SM3 and not repeat the same mistakes. And if he is excited about this new story (as I suspect he wasn't so excited about being FORCED to introduce Venom - a character he never liked) we may get to see the same director who gave us part one and part two. Therefore it would be a great part four.

However, I can totally relate those who desire new blood on this project. But if we do get new blood... if we're going to totally dissolve this Raimi-built universe... then let's get the rights back to Marvel Studios and let them start a new franchise that is built within the currently-forming Avengers film-universe. A new Spider-Man movie with easter-eggs, Stark Industries equipment, mentions of SHIELD, etc. Maybe NOT a full-blown crossover, but an acknowledgment that all of these events are happening in the same world.

But going back to my first sentiment, if Raimi can deliver a stand apart SM movie on the level of 1 and 2, then I will be just as happy.

If Raimi does come back, let him tell the story he wants to tell, and use the villains he wants to use.

Raimi is a good director. he know how to do this.
although I'd like to see a new director's take...I know that the movie would be in safe hands with Sam.
he screwed 3, yeah, but 1 and 2 were great.
now...keep Kirsten away from this movies. she doesn't like this.

I agree with your points . One of the main reasons I think there needs to be a new director is because they wouldn't come with the bias Raimi has of the character after 3 films. Not saying it's a bad thing but sometimes you have to go in a different direction to keep things fresh . If that means a new cast and a new director then I have no problem with that.

Who knows ,Macguire and Dunst may not want to come back. I wouldn't blame them if they didn't.

Certainly the new screenwriter in a step in the right direction. And it sounds like as of now Raimi agree's with his vison.
