I have to say, the more I watch Year One, the more that I enjoy it. That and Under the Red Hood are the Batman Begins and The Dark Knight of animated movies, IMO.

I just can't take Ben McKenzie's voice seriously as Bruce it's like he's reading his lines but his Batman voice is allright. I liked Bruce Greenwood in UTRH. He was great as Bruce/Batman

    Great:

    1. Batman Returns - still my favorite Bat-movie. 10/10
    2. The Dark Knight - very deep story, solid screenplay and amazing performances. 9/10
    3. The Dark Knight Rises - very good. Unfortunately, didn't have enough screen time to fully explore ideas behind the movie. 8/10

    Good:

    4. Batman - Not a big fan of The Joker. But really awesome. 8/10
    5. Batman Begins - very good first half of the movie. 7/10
    6. Batman Forever - a little messy movie, but it definitely has its strong points. Entertaining movie. 6/10

    Bad:

    7. Batman & Robin - the only good thing about the movie - visuals. Everything else is total mess. 3/10

So... I've seen the new movie and as usual it's difficult to rate a movie so shortly after you've seen it the first time. It was definitely one of the most entertaining Batman movies, although you know, like it is with Nolan's movies, when you watch them in cinema they are pretty good but watch them again and they lose a lot, I cannot even watch "The Dark Knight" anymore. And of course, the writing was simply atrocious and sloppy with lots of parts cramped into this but usually poorly developed. Don't get me started on BS like Blake seeing that he is Batman IN HIS EYES and the amazing Bale-Mole-Man tunnels...

So for now I rank them like this:

    1. Batman Begins
    2. Batman 66
    3. The Dark Knight Rises
    4. Batman 89
    5. Batman Forever
    6. The Dark Knight
    7. Batman Returns
    8. Batman & Robin

Yet, only Batman Begins and Batman 66 work for me, judging from the writing perspective. And I could interchange between rank 3 and 6 any day. stupid lists!

What? I think BB and TDKR are more personal to Bruce's character and like them slightly better. As for Returns, its a great Gothic fairy tale

He's upset because you actually have an opinion that runs contrary to his own. How dare you. :o

I need to say that although TDK was a good thriller/action movie, it has never felt like a Batman movie to me. In TDKR, the first act was wonderful when it introduced us to Bane, retired Bruce, and Gordon, Selina, etc., but the second act was unfocused, and the climax of the film with Talia came out of nowhere and felt rather pointless. It was the sloppiest of the Nolan trilogy, imo.

BatLegend, it's just his opinion which he's entitled to. There's no need to grill him so much over it. Everyone has their preferences. Live and let live, and just accept his as a fellow Bat-fan.

Is there something wrong with you?

The Burton movies might be the most personal Batman movies in general, and they have an incredible degree of depth, both in the subtlety of the characterizations and the actual performances.

Not to mention, movies are more than just their writing; both Burton movies were phenomenally well directed, with great art direction, cinematography, and scoring.

    Mask of the Phantasm
    Batman Begins
The Dark Knight = Dark Knight Rises
    Under the Red Hood
Batman Beyond Return of the Joker
    Batman '89
Justice League Crisis on 2 Earths

What Im really curious to see is a list of peoples favorite Batman anything, on any media....does a comic like Dark Knight Returns rate higher than any movie? does "Heart of Ice" from the animated series trump some of the movies and or comics?....It would be hard given how much great Bat stuff has come through the pipes in the last 25 years..

That's a unique view if ever I saw one. Could you explain why you rate BF as #1?

I think TDK is a terrific movie, i just like BB and TDKR a tad better, I dont think theres much to deny the trilogy is of a great quality and really well done, same goes for Burton movies. I wrote about the greatness of BB and TDK some time ago, which I think shows well how much I love and admire the movie and its predecessor - http://gothamalleys.blogspot.com/2011/12/watching-world-burn-legacy-of-dark.html
To be accused of having some kind of agenda just cause I didnt put TDK first and cause I like the other versions is baffling to say the least

Reality is that some people just can't grasp that there are many Batman fans out there who actually like all the adaptations for what they are and not what they wanted them to be. They just can't accept someone's opinion and keep it moving it really shakes their foundations as a fan that a lot of fan opinions don't match their own personal opinion. These are the pettiest people that we have to share the distinction of being Batman fans with. Every fanbase has them.

For me TDK and BR are tied at the best Batman films then:

    Batman'89
    Begins
    TDKR
    Forever
    B'66
    B&R

    For me its like this...

1)A tie between Batman Begins and Batman '89
    2)The Dark Knight
    3)Batman Returns
    4)Batman Forever
    5)Batman & Robin
    6)The Dark Knight Rises

^Yes, you read that right. I put TDKR last behind B&R. Let me explain(briefly) why: yes B&R is an awful campy film and if I was ranking them based on objective quality rather than my own personal preference, B&R would have to be last. The reason I detest TDKR slightly more is because at least B&R is sort of entertaining as an unintentional comedy. Its SO bad that I can kinda let go and enjoy it. TDKR, on the other hand, just pisses me off because of the frustration that there SHOULD be a really great movie in here somewhere but it just never 'rises' to the occasion for me on that front. Batman Forever almost suffers from that same fate of being frustrating due to having good elements that just aren't put together right into a good film EXCEPT that Batman/Bruce's characterization is really great in that film and he has a nice character arc. If not for that, BF would probably be tied with TDKR in last place.

    Good list tbh.

Have not seen Batman and Robin in ages, if ever tbh. Haven't seen Batman (1989) right the way through recently either. I'm going to go with:

    1. The Dark Knight
    2. The Dark Knight Rises
    3. Batman Begins
    4. Batman (1989) (Good, but Nolan's batman films will always be 'mine')
    5. Batman Forever (I like it... Jim Carey's awesome!)
    6. Batman Returns
    7. Batman (1966)
    8. Batman & Robin
