Gonna be upfront and say I've never liked Superman as a character, I always thought he was so bland and OP. I really didn't like MoS or any of the DC films from that era either.

But damn this movie was good. The use of the old theme, how much it felt like an actual comic book, and how Gunn really made Superman likeable and earnest in a genuine way in the same vein that Marvel did with Captain America. Maybe it was just me but Corensweat plays Supes how I would've imagined Brendan Fraser as Superman, and really channels a sort of Rick O'Connell for him. Sure some of the goofiness was a bit silly but it worked a bit with the tone of the movie.

I think Superman's costume needs a bit of work, but overall I really liked the movie and I actually am looking forward to what DC has in store for this universe.

Lex was whiny but I'm pretty sure he's this way in most mediums but I always felt he'd have some more poise and sophistication to his motives but that's my only minor nitpick with him.

8/10. A really Solid Lex. Best one on the big screen yet for me.
And FYI, I saw NO political messaging, none.
It's just a straight up good popcorn flick with heart.
I see no reason this shouldn't get to 800 mill.

I'm gonna watch it again this Saturday. I really liked the cast and characters, so much that I want to see them in more stuff.

I voted to rate the movie 6 out of 10, but that cpuld change upon my second viewing.

My official review:
James Gunn's reimagining of the Superman world is a resounding, triumphant success in reinvigorating the superhero genre, which has run quite stale and hollow in recent years, with an injection of hyper stylized aesthetics and meaningful substantive characters and relationships. It not only suffices but excels at giving Superman/Clark the innate goodness and hope that one would expect to see from the world's greatest superhero. The action is astounding, the acting is phenomenal, the humor was hilarious and appropriate, character motivations feel organic, and set ups that pay off big time! My only opportunities for growth being that I would love for it to have a longer runtime to let some of the scenes breath and to experience more of this world. Otherwise, *muah* chef's kiss! Bring on the DCU!!!

My Geeky reaction/review:
WHAT A BLAST!!! Holy cow that was such an amazing, well done depiction of Superman and his supporting characters! I won't go into detail, but I have VERY minimal critiques. Outside of a few times where it tugged and gnawed at my heartstrings I had a huge smile on my face from ear to ear for the rest of the film, no exaggeration. FINALLY after three decades of troubled reboots, it feels sooooo damn good to have an amazing Superman film again! If this is just the start of the DCU, I can't imagine what it will be like in a few years from now when it's in full swing...but I'm ready! Bring it on!!!

I’m so happy you loved it! NGL, a few of the mixed reactions on here had me going “oh no, I hope hopeful likes it,” since I know you needed this win as much as I did. Glad the movie came through for us both!

Saw it a second time… and wow, things really clicked this time.
Scenes that felt rushed before now flowed better, and emotionally it all landed so much stronger.
I still think the movie’s a bit chaotic at times, but now I see that as part of its charm, it’s bursting with ideas, heart, and love for Superman.
This second watch really let me settle into the tone, and connect with what the film was trying to say.
That said, I still wish they had trimmed a few minutes off some of the fight scenes to give us more time with the characters, there’s so much richness there that deserved a bit more space to breathe.

But overall? I’m honestly in love with it now. Can’t wait to see it again.

Very solid and immensely fun. This is by far the most authentic feeling superhero universe I have ever seen on film. Just lifted off the page.

But man, did it just fly by. It didn't feel like I had enough time to soak in particular scenes because it just kept moving and never stopping. And the way it was edited, you can easily tell there were meant to be day to day transitions like from The Suicide Squad. I think the movie could've benefitted from them so it could flow better.
