I never understood that arguement. The trailer came out six months before release. Exactly the same timeframe as Ant-Mans trailer and GOTG trailer and many others.

It wasn't late, I guess it just seemed that way since Trank didn't release an official info or photos

Their the one's that explained the reason we didn't see anything was because they wanted the perfect image. Sorry but I didn't see anything that wowed me and made me think that was perfect no wonder they waited. The trailer did nothing for me and considering this film has been done filming for some time now and this is what they have to show us makes it hard for me to get excited for it. Hopefully the full trailer is way better otherwise this is an easy skip.

5/10 as a sequel to Chronicles/Interstellar/Prometheus

0/10 as a teaser to a Fantastic Four movie.

Its just as the same as the gap between Dofp first trailer and its release... 7 months. The release of FF trailer is quite early. And we already had an explanation why they were being so secretive before.

It's pretty clear that their prolonged silence was not a tactical, thought out move. They can do damage control all they'd like but there's no rewriting history.

It's because the film wrapped in August yet didn't have a logo, viral marketing, anything at SDCC, teaser trailer or official pics till now. Which is odd. Studios want the word to get out on this stuff. Look at how they handle DOFP. Shows more confidence, otherwise it comes across as wanting to hide the film. This trailer and those photos/logo should have been ready for months.

In comparison Ant-Man wrapped in December. Had photos, logo and showed footage at SDCC. As did GOTG.

There's no excuse for that prolonged wait. Trank can say whatever he'd like in front of a camera about how "private" and "secretive" he is, but let's not pretend that Fox (a studio who poured tens of millions of dollars into this property) is going to sit on their hands and not show anything for the sake of preserving this inexperienced director's artistic vision. As I said, that wait was not a tactical move.

How hard is it to have an intern draft a press release saying "Hey, those rumors you heard? Didn't happen." and email it off to Variety or THR?

Speaks volumes. And even if it wasn't true, leaving it out there to fester isn't a very smart move.

Yeah. When people were saying the Avengers actors were arguing over salary and that Whedon was making Downey money, Marvel shut that down quick. The worst thing PR wise from Marvel has been the Edgar Wright fiasco but usually they've got everything under their control.

You can't just let things sit out there and ignore it like it doesn't exist. When the Aunt May rumors showed up, Sony quickly denied it(even if it was probably true).

That's because they don't really care about what happens to the FF. Fox clearly does not share the same concerns as they do with their other more lucrative properties. They just want to cash in fast and quick, and hold onto the rights for seven more years.
The film hasn't even come out yet, but mission accomplished as far as Fox is concerned.

And yet Days of Future Past had posters IN THEATERS, I want to say, a year or so before release?

WELL before 6-7 months, at any rate.

Well said. This is all reactionary. Months and months go by, comic-cons come and go, while Kinberg keeps giving us the line that they are waiting until everything is absolutely perfect before they show anything because they want to blow us away. And then they release this mediocre trailer featuring rolling hills, darkened hallways and a melodramatic voiceover and we're all supposed to be impressed. It even comes complete with commentary where Kinberg baby sits Josh Trank as they apologize for all of their decisions. They claim Stan Lee is all for it. How come we've never heard Stan Lee say anything about this film? Meanwhile we hear of extensive reshoots. Yeah everything's under control over at Fox.

I found the trailer horrible boring and uninteresting. It seemed to me like the goal was to take these characters and make them as dull as possible. I get that Trank is going for this "fantasy is creepy when its a subtle part of reality" schtick that he did with Chronicle, the problem is that it doesn't work for the Fantastic Four. The FF are supposed to be more like the incredibles in tone than sci-fi horror. This felt like more of the drab pseudo-profound hipster stuff that we saw in Transcendence and Interstellar.

What's odd is that Trank seems to think he's doing something new here, but he's just following a trend that is already getting old.

We just got a poster this week and we are still 6 to 7 months before the film, so chill out. And Fantastic Four doesn't have to mirror DOFP's marketing campaign.

The point is it's not normal for superhero franchise like this to hold out like that.

If Apocalypse, Ant-Man, Bat Vs Supes, Suicide Squad or whatever didn't show anything at SDCC and waited 5 months after wrap to finally show something, then those boards, fans and geek sites would be questioning what's going on. And not in a good way.

We already got an explanation why they didn't want to reveal things so early. So its not like Josh Trank was rejected by Fox not to show early teases. Fox's action-comedy film Spy is coming out in May and the trailer/logo/poster for that film was just released like 12 days ago, so don't tell me Fox was also hiding that film. At this point, no one is gonna care that much that the logo/poster for FF came out so late (umm 7 months before the movie? seriously, its not that late, compare that to the first trailer of The Wolverine/First Class) now that the trailer is out along with the logo/posters and more.

And seriously, are we gonna consider Josh Trank doing a trailer assessment/commentary as a bad thing?

First Class did it exactly the way this movie is doing it.

The first group shot was released January 18. The first trailer was released February 10. Release date was June 3. That's four months between the trailer and the film.

They did it again with The Wolverine.

First trailer was March 27. Release date was July 26. Four months between the trailer and the film.

Days of Future Past's first trailer hit October 29. Release date was May 23. Seven months between the trailer and the film.

First FF trailer came out Tuesday. Movie comes out August 7. That's five months between the trailer and the film.

Fox doesn't like early trailers. They keep it real close to release. That's why I never believed the nonsense I was reading about the production being troubled.

I'm not just talking about trailers.

Even with The Wolverine Mangold and Jackman were doing live questions during shooting. Also, First Class wrapped in Dec and The Wolverine in Nov. With earlier release dates the next year then F4. Not the same thing here.

F4 has been wrapped since the end of Summer.

Except when you think it should. :funny:

I'm not just talking about trailers.

I know you are referring to the logo and the poster... but they probably decided its best to release all these 1st set of marketing materials with the trailer and there's nothing really wrong with that.

I'm not just talking about trailers.

Then what are you talking about? Information? Jordan's casting broke in May of 2013. Then Teller's was August. Then full casting announcements came February 19, 2014. Shooting commenced in May of 2014.

It was all there. The only funny business was the release date being pushed twice but that happens a lot with these kinds of movies (at one point Avengers was scheduled for release in 2011).
