Justice League Real Talk - Where does the DCEU go from here? - Part 1

In regards to Harley, I will say that I've never seen so many teen or adult girls buying or walking around with female comic book character shirts in my life, maybe children with batgirl shirts but that's about it. Nobody dresses up like Jean Grey, Mystique (or Prof X voice - Raven), Katiness, Rey, Scarlet Witch nor Black Widow.

Elsa is hands down the most popular cosplay though, for under 10s, so there you go, young girls dress up as Elsa and then Harley Quinn when they grow up, Harley is the equivalent of Elsa for young ladies.

Poor Anna, have not seen one girl dressed up as Anna

And now the biggest seller for this year's Halloween outfit is Wonder Woman's. Whatever WB/DC is doing wrong, at least they're catching the eye of their female audiences in the costume department and probably cashing out big time. WB/DC should just go all out and create a new niche audience - ie. female superhero fans. Time to look into a Gotham City Sirens vs Birds of Prey movie. Always pays to be one step ahead, and this is where the MCU/X-Men franchises have not dared to thread.

I'd probably greenlight a lower budget Vixen film before I would a Shazam film, given the current situation of DC. She's a model...maybe somehow have the film embrace modern music and fashion to try to get into the pop culture conversation.

I can't stand rip-off characters...but a family friendly Batgirl (meaning...it cant scare little girls and wouldnt sexualize the character) might do well.

WW 2
MOS 2
The Batman
The Flash(NOT ****ING FLASHPOINT)
GLC

These all need to happen before JL 2 is even considered

Focus on these and forget all the stupid villain spin offs.
Keep the budgets under control.
Treat them like they don’t even really exist in a shared universe.

If Aquaman is good and not heavy with shared universe stuff(it has no reason to be) then I think we’ll be at a good starting point for this.

All this and don't forget Shazam!

I don't know about that... today's culture seems to be quite divided on the issue of modelling and how it misrepresents the female body. Won't want to get into that debate. Batgirl has a better chance of getting a favorable response by the public, especially if Barbara is seen as an everyday girl-next-door who just wants to do the right thing. They can tie in her love for tech as well since she does go on to be Oracle, that she's into social media, computer gaming and other geeky stuff. Would appeal to a vast untapped market of modern day females, and even males who're into gaming chicks :P. If they can weave in the injury she has at the hands of the Joker, they'll have the potential to champion charities for disabled groups. Doesn't everyone feel good watching a movie that supports a good cause? Spam the catchphrase - "You can be a hero too!" and stuff like that. Even if the movie doesn't sell well, the critics at RT will be hardpressed not to give them a good score.

You know what would also be great? If everyone stopped overthinking Superman.

There seems to be this sentiment that Superman has to be 'reinvented' and 'modernized'. What does this even mean? What's wrong with Superman just the way he is?

Not angsty enough?

It's not reinvented nor modernized. But you gotta agree that a comic book character is not fit for a carbon-copy traslation to the big screen. It's gotta be an adaptation.

That WAS the plan.....:csad:

DC does really well with the market and they're playing a long game too, they've got videos and toys for DC girls from the age of 5 and my friend bought a WW doll for my 2 y/o but all my friends were like "I think that's for you!" But my daughter's into WW too so she did the thunderclap to save me from embarrassment :oldrazz:

Ya Batgirl can target the young, female and disabled she has a ton of potential. I hope we get the girls on screen soon because if they decide to only keep WW (and maybe Harley), surely Marvel is going to be the first to make an all female team up movie, probably after they become the first to make a team heroes vs team villains gig as well, the way DC's likely to be halted on that path :csad:

Totally agree with the critics too, WW got overblown now she's going for an Oscar, lol, I love her btw but seriously.

I think they "got it" in JL, unfortunately nobody showed up.

It's just so sad if Henry's gone, like, he's not even in the majority of the promotion, and then the camp saying he's probably done their reasoning is he's the face of DCEU, but he is basically non-existence in JL's promo.

Of course.

But how come Superman is the only character where filmmakers seem to have this conversation? What is so difficult about adapting Superman? Why this need to fix something that isn't broken?

See that's the problem I think. These movies are being approached by people who believe the character is already broken.

Some people think boy-scout types are one-sided personalities, and Superman is the embodiment of a boy-scout. Snyder thought to present him some burdens he couldn't power his way through (like having to hold back all the time, and misunderstandings with politicians), and I personally thought it to be intriguing, but at the same time, Snyder took that ball and completely ran away with it.

I'll just say I dont' want a Sup that's 100% righteous and way too powerful for his villains, and borderline like Cap in Civil War - a semi-d**k.

Then end up with only conflicts with Lois' romance...

I look forward to the next Sup movie....

I'd love to see more of the Superman we got in JL. Cavill deserves that

I like the fact that Supes is a good guy, and Cap has overall worked, but I think DC should keep away from any clear comparisons between the two of them. If they were going for an MoS2, I'd have it a lot more low key. No more alien invasions and CGI villains. Just Clark at the Daily Planet, trying to be a good reporter, and Superman, helping the people of the world every time something pops up on the news. I would downplay the whole Lois angle (I think it's been overdone imo), and have her just come in to be a support when he's down. We would see Clark struggle with being torn between trying to do the right thing, and yet not knowing the future of how things might turn out. Like choosing to save a group of people in peril when another group perishes because he was busy at the time. Show the true kindness of his heart, where he's not just saving people, but animals too, and also stopping by to help old ladies get across the road, or plow an entire farm when the farmer is ill. 3rd act could be Lex, or someone else powerful, trying to use his kindness against him, putting him a situation where he might look less than noble, turning public opinion against him. But he ultimately redeems himself, and indirectly makes a fool of the person who attempted to frame him in the first place.

A simple straight forward story with heart would work surprisingly well, and lower the film's budget too.

Keep in my mind that it's just Hughes' opinion. It's not certainty, for now at least.

Yes, but it's still his opinion. I don't see a reason to panic over Cavill possibly leaving just yet.

Ironically, the main goal of the "trilogy" was to showcase Superman as the most important, most influential hero, but the story was poorly told. And Batman in particular was character-assassinated along the way.

They will try again with Superman at some point, but perhaps not right away. I don't think shoe-horning Wonder Woman into Shazam would be a good idea at all. Just let Patty do her sequel, and leave it at that. If they really feel that they can't use Superman in Shazam, then they should do the story with new characters.

I want WB to announce some forward momentum in a week or two. By the end of the year tops.

Don't dwell on BVS 2.0.

I think Shazam is a poor choice for a next film. Seems more suited for the MCU than the DCEU. I hope they give MoS2 priority over Shazam.

Shazam already has a director,a lead actor, and I script that’s being worked on.

I like that, a low key movie but lots of action (like Sherlock Holmes character, solving small cases instead of world ending cases), Metallo can be the villain who can be empathized, and Lois can do her investigation/reporting etc.
