In Resident Evil 7, players will assume the role of a character named Ethan, the game’s Entertainment Association Rating Board description reveals.
As Ethan, players will explore a “derelict mansion” in search of his missing wife.
Ethan’s name was mentioned in the Resident Evil 7 Gamescom 2016 trailer. The trailer opened with a mysterious female character saying, “Ethan, if you find this, I know I can’t expect anything from you. I don’t know what happened.
There’s so much that you need to know.”
Here’s the ESRB’s full description:This is a survival-horror game in which players assume the role of Ethan, a man searching for his missing wife in a derelict mansion. From a first-person perspective, players explore the environment and use pistols, shotguns, flamethrowers, explosives and chainsaws to kill mutant creatures. Combat is accompanied by realistic gunfire, screams of pain, and exaggerated blood-splatter effects. As players progress through the story, cutscenes can depict instances of gore and intense acts of violence: a character’s arm dismembered by a chainsaw; a man’s leg taken off at the knee with a shovel; a character impaled through the face with a shovel. Some areas also depict mutilated corpses with exposed organs/viscera. The words “f**k” and “*****” are heard in the dialogue.Resident Evil 7: biohazard will launch for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on January 24.

Chainsaw? Flame thrower? Explosives?
Yep, I am sticking with my original prediction; horror themed action fps bait and switch.
Alien: Isolation has all of these things and is still very much a survival horror game.
In terms of feel, I reckon it'll be like Alien Isolation.
I'm not terribly thrilled by that. I didn't hate AI.. But I also didn't like hiding from ****.
We got Devil May Cry.I got into this franchise because I was promised a spooky airship, a great abandoned castle and cathedral. I didn't get any of those![]()

lol that's why missed it. I just put it the other thread.when I was looking for this one cause this thread just suddenly moved. but yeah that's the video. sweet find man.
Radically different and new is fine if they can pull it off . And I do welcome new and different instead of trying copy others and failing at it cause you don't really know how to do it right, and refuse to get people that know how (the dead space stomp in 6 .) Any way I'm sure this will do fine as it's own thing. The change in perspective is honestly irrelevant to me. I think a lot folks are putting way too much focus on where they placed the camera. They are going for a more modern post Penumbra survival horror game. Penumbra and its successors (Amnesia, Outlast, Alien Isolation) are all first person games. I'm excited for this game as a stand alone release. I don't give a **** about Resident Evil's canon and the baggage that comes with it. I wanted them to do something radically different from the last few games and return to the genre properly. So far so good, as far as I am concerned.
