Horror Resident Evil Reboot

At this point, whatever they do cannot be worse than what the franchise currently is.

Unless they get Ruben Fleischer to direct :o

It is going to go from nuclear fallout to dumpster fire. See improvement. :woot:

You know, I might come away from the trailer for whatever the hell this becomes with pure joy, simply for how refreshing it will be to see a RE film that doesn't feature Mila Jovovich.

Knowing them, they will cast her in a new role so they can put her on the posters in China. :funny:

I like the RE films, like Underworld they're a not-so-guilty pleasure of mine and I own them all. I like to watch films that makes me think, maybe question a few things about life and the world around us... But sometimes I'm in the mood to just kick back and watch something that takes no effort whatsoever, let the explosions/fights/carnage etc wash over me. RE fits that bill very nicely! I'm keen to see what they come up with :yay:

So...Resident Evil. I really liked Resident Evil 2, and I liked RE4 as well, but I'm also aware that their stories were B-movie-ish (although not without its charms in 2's case). So they always required a certain amount of updating.

With the movies, I liked the first one, thought the second was pretty bad, and haven't been back. As far as action goes, though, it's not like the games themselves didn't become more action-oriented later on, and they generally lost the plot. Leon went from a uniformed cop who was in over his head to a moody Secret Service agent. Claire was doing over-the-top spy action in the intro video for Code Veronica (only to use tank controls in the actual game).

I'd be up for a more direct adaptation of Resident Evil 1 (and then 2), but I'm not overly concerned about them following the story of the early games beyond maybe loose terms. I would prefer that they go more subdued and more horror/thriller; even if they do keep up the action, it doesn't have to be one or the other. In general, I'd like something closer to the early games while also good, and hopefully with Claire Redfield because I like Claire.

The first RE film is undoubtedly my favourite. I thought it was a reasonable horror film, very creepy in places - the guy dragging the axe and the drowned woman suddenly opening her eyes as she's pressed up against the glass door of the flooded room always stick in my mind.

Hey, I love RE1 film. It's silly from time to time, but for the most part it was pretty close to the spirit of early RE games. Action was really nice as well. And Alice wasn't a super-human ninja or something. Great main theme by Manson. And the final sequence after Alice wakes up is damn amazing.

Shame after the first film all went to ****.

The first one is probably the best, at least in regards to it being more of a horror driven film compared to what the franchise became. It also helped that they didn't include (and misuse) any of the characters from the games, which is something I think has been a big issue with the sequels.

That, and the fact that it became a superhero franchise. Michelle Rodriguez was basically playing Bane at the end of the fifth film.

2019: Resident Evil 1
2021: Resident Evil 2
2022: Resident Evil Nemesis
2024: Resident Evil Veronica
2025: Resident Evil Zerø
2027: Resident Evil 4
2028: Resident Evil 5
2029: Resident Evil 6
2031: Resident EVIl
2032: Resident Evil 8

Yasssz! Make it happen!

Resident Evil movies are awful......imo.
So, it can't be worst...right? Right?? RIGHT?!?!?!?!?

Fantastic Four cinematic history could be this franchise's destiny, if fans are unlucky.

I'm starting to think that you remember that.

Finally!!!!! This franchise has needed this since the 2nd or 3rd film.
Resident Evil has been deserving of a decent film for a long time. I hope we get one now.

Just adapt maybe the first and second games into one movie since they'll probably want them to have more to do than just be in the mansion the whole time.

What is wrong with the mansion having being only location for one movie. Mansion is one big ass place. Lots to explore. And it's part of whole claustrophobic feel and atmosphere cut from part of the world.

Don't Breathe for instance was one of best movies of the year and movie took part in one location, one house. And being trapped in it.

I think having both the mansion and the city outbreak in one movie would be too much, and it'd be destined to suck. They could always go off book and have them deal with something outside of the mansion that leads them to the mansion, or have the mansion lead to them having to go somewhere else.

The first movie should focus on the Spencer Estate, Wesker's ties to Spencer, with Lisa Trevor's role being fleshed out. Then in the second one, they can have Birkin as the main villain. Third one - a combination of CVX and RE4.

It wouldn't work.

Don't forget that RE is an action/horror series and not "Night of the Living Dead".
The majority of video games need some sort of changes here and there, the thing is that the people behind it need to be smart as to know what to add without ruining it.......they usually are not.

I think they should go straight to Leon. He's the franchise's most popular character. Do a loose adaptation of #2 where Leon is a likeable, charming, smart but inexperienced rookie cop and its his first week on the job when all Hell breaks loose. Make a truly scary survival horror film with action elements instead of a straight action film. Assuming the movie's successful, they can gradually evolve him into the badass he becomes in RE4 and 6.

They shouldn't start with Leon, he never faced Albert Wesker, and that guy is the main antagonist of the series.

I want a film starting with the mansion as well. I'm fine with them expanding on that, hell the first Resident Evil film wasn't that bad with the Mansion being the intro into the hive, but I really want it more mansion focused. They could do that with the mansion but with a labyrinth of corridors leading to somewhere similar to the game and original film. I'm all for some creative freedom I just want more of the lore and characters to have more important roles than the mess of Alice and other craziness from the other films.

2&3 should be wrapped into one film together. Two films about escaping the ruins of Raccoon City after the Outbreak is a little redundant. No reason we can't have Birkin and Nemesis in the same flick. Hell, bust the canon and have them fight. Why not.

There's different ways that could work, but if they do follow the basic series of events, I was thinking that the 2nd could more or less be what it is, but they don't make it out of the city. Then the 3rd could be what the third game was, but combined with resolving Claire/Chris. That way you have a complete trilogy that's hopefully decent, and if they want to mess with the (largely) nonsense that follows or do something new, they can go from there.
