The Amazing Spider-Man Rhys Ifans Cast as The Lizard

I really hope he does survive. It would be great to keep Conners as a supporting character throughout the Movies. Kinda Spidey's Luscious Fox. Only that he doesn't provide him with equipment, but his expertise on genetics.
That's a great comparison. I hadn't thought of that at all.

Note to self: Don't trust theWrap.
Seriously... I'll never get over that time they lured us all to their site with hints of a Catwoman reveal, and it just ended up being some silly thermometer sketch about the crew of TDKR :whatever:

You've been waiting years for this, 'ol Lizzy :awesome:

Oh man -- you have no idea.

2000 - I join the SHH forums (then called "Spider-Man Hype") to complain about organic webshooters and hope that Lizard will be in the first Spidey movie.

2001 - Rumors that Curt Connors will appear in a scene where Peter Parker gets fired from being his lab assistant in the first Spidey movie.

2002 - No Connors in the movie (although he does get mentioned by name, and appears in the novelization of the movie).

late 2002 - Kirsten Dunst talks about a "lizard-thing" that's going to be a villain in Spider-Man 2. Unfounded rumors of Bruce Campbell playing Dr Connors abound.

2003- Dylan Baker officially announced as Dr Connors. My head explodes, as I'm sure that Lizard will be the secondary villain with Doc Ock in SM2.

2004 - No Lizard in SM2. Or secondary villain, for that matter. Cool to see Dr Connors onscreen, though.

2005 - Thomas Hayden Church announced as main villain for SM3, but Dylan Baker is also returning as Dr Connors. Dare I hope?

2007 - No Lizard in SM3. (In retrospect, not a bad thing, since Venom's image suffered from being in that film).

2011-2012 -- SQUEEEEEE! :liz:

This is the official statement we received from Sony:

"Rhys Ifans was detained by Comic-Con security after a brief incident backstage prior to and immediately following the Amazing Spider-Man panel. Police were notified and a citation was issued to Mr. Ifans, who deeply regrets this incident."

It's been a looooooong road. I sincerely hope the wait pays off, oh scaly one.

Has it really been that long?:wow:

So, you think Lizard could actually scare the little kids? I think it would be great to have a Spidey movie that can provide a few scares.

I've had many debates over the years about how savage the Lizard should be in movie form. Regardless of whether Lizard can talk (which I hope he does, at least at first), or if he becomes a mindless beast, you can be pretty sure that he's going to do some violent things onscreen to establish his villainy.

The question is -- how violent should the Lizard get, and how might his actions impact Curt Connors remaining as a character in the rebooted Spidey franchise?
Should the Lizard get totally animalistic and tear people to shreds and eat them? There's only so far you can go with this in a PG-13 movie of course, but I don't know if I want to see Lizzy killing innocent people right and left. It kind of lessens the sympathy for Connors and reduces the chances that Lizard will survive at the end of the film.

I keep hearing mixed reactions describing him. I want to see him for myself now. I hear he is a return to Ditko, so does he look like this:

or more like Romita's slightly more reptillian, but still camp-monster take?

I need to know...now.

Also, lastly--and most importantly--he better have a lab coat and ripped clothes.

Muscular body, long tail.

Red (that's what they look like) eyes.

Long mouth.

I'm glad I wasn't around for the organic hate.:oldrazz:

I'm afraid I was a full-on Organic Hater. I joined a forum before SHH back in early 2000 that was actually called noorganicwebshooters.com

But I obviously learned to live with the organics in the Raimi movies. Just like I learned to live with Captain America not punching any real Nazis in the new movie. :oldrazz:

I hope he keeps at least the shredded pants when he loses the lab coat. Something that shows that he was human before.

As do I, because like he every film I would make up a synopsis for how they can fit Lizard in the sequel. Now he's finally here....albeit, my KLH/Lizard-based SM4 would have been great. :o :oldrazz:

Thanks. For anybody at the panel, did Lizard have a lab coat on in that scene where he attacks the kids? Because I never liked when some artists to be different took it away. He became a generic monster without the human trappings, in my opinion.

Connors seems to be wearing his lab coat in the pic where he has scales on his face, so I'd bet that Lizzy will wear the coat for at least a little while.

The IGN description of the Lizard scene:

Webb also gave us our first look at The Lizard, by way of a highlight reel of sorts illustrating the villain's origins. Basically Connors, as the world's leading expert in reptiles, is looking to genetic splicing as a means to grow back his missing arm. He uses himself as a test case, and the results lead to Connors growing back his arm, after shedding a very sticky, very gross layer of skin around the new limb.

He then starts growing a network of scaly flesh on his face before finding himself naked and in the sewers, screaming as the final transformation takes over.

Two girls are in the bathroom stall of their school bathroom, preparing to burn a snap shot of a cheating boyfriend, when the tile beneath them quakes and shatters. The toilet is violently yanked underground and, in its place, a large reptilian claw reaches out... Then another, and The Lizard eventually pulls himself topside. The character looks equal parts Killer Croc, Raptor and Koopa as he menaces the two girls against the far wall, his tail snapping back and forth as he makes inappropriate gestures with his tongue. (Gross.)
