The Amazing Spider-Man Rhys Ifans Cast as The Lizard

Let me just say, so far this reboot's cast is flipping amazing.

That said I'll take this guy as anyone, even Aunt May. He's a good actor.

Well said, Billy boy. He's very diverse; he could be any one.

I wonder if they'll go for a more cooky, snarly type of villian here? Maybe he'll play Curt Conners but in a way that won't scare little kids too much.

Is he playing David Bowie?

Looks to me like he is Carnage and if he is Carnage I will barf all over this.

It's odd seeing as how they're casting mostly unknowns for the roles me thinks maybe Sony wants for Andrew Garfield to be the definitive version of Spider-Man just as Christopher Reeve was for Superman.

Or maybe they'll be blowing all that cash in hiring well known actors on some major SFX action sequences.

Good on both counts!

Honestly I say

The Green Goblin (which I do not prefer...yet!)
Electro
The Lizard

Please stop mentioning Vulture people, please.

This. Just made me laugh, lol although I don't agree with you. It still made me laugh:woot:

"Warmth and Rage" I don't know, these Sony reps and their play on words. They have done this before in describing casting for a particular character during this francise. Maybe Electro. Fairly normal guy struck with these powers leading to his instability and increased insanity.

Wow... can't say I am impressed by this casting. The only two villains I see him playing are Electro or Mysterio, but even then there are better actors for this job (big-name).

Why would he need to emote warmth, as Webb said, as Mysterio..?

Rhys is not a big name, but he's a damn fine actor. who cares who's big or who's not. We're not here to discuss who has the biggest 'duck'. (replace the i in duck)

Regardless of what villain he plays and all these unknowns they're casting... still doesn't excuse the pitiful $80 million budget for this film... what the hell... We may get like what, one good action scene and some swinging scenes... yay, even Spider-Man 1 had a 140 million dollar budget and I felt it just barely had enough action...

Oh come on.. did you really think you had to provide the key to your top secret code? :woot:

I just broke out my magic decoder ring from my cracker jack box.. and I broke your "code" in no time. :cwink:

But I agree with your point, I will take quality over "duck size"... errr... big "quackin" name actor any time.

Maybe they'll film some of this over seas where they can save money.

Yeah, it's pretty pathetic that Sony is throwing so little money at a proven franchise.

Has that $80m budget been confirmed? Although I like the notion of the makers being forced to focus on decent characterizations, less than $100m doesn't bode well for big, sweeping action scenes. Suddenly the initial Twilight comparisons don't seem miles off...
