The Amazing Spider-Man Rhys Ifans Cast as The Lizard

Maybe it's because i've only seen him in Knotting Hill but I can't see this guy:

Being a freaking super villian unless he's some creepy vulture.

He looks best suited to the insane serial killer Cletus Kassidy judging from those pictures.

its hard to tell based on looks who, on he might fit.. an of course we can only guess on who with think he might fit, based on the version of the characters we've seen... we don't have the benefit of knowing how they version of the character would look, where he obviously some how fits their vision of the character

You Googled a picture of him in his freakin' draws. Yeah, okay, that's why he shouldn't be a super villain.

Exactly. Picking pictures, if you only base on that picture/look is crazy. I have googled him to learn about him and have come across several pics where he could come off as a good Dr. Connors.

But, some villains require a certain body type (assuming classic versions of them, I know little to nothing of most of the ultimate versions). For example, Kraven (classic.. not this gun totin Simon Cowel?!?!?!?!? WTF!?!?!?)... would require a different build for an actor.

For his build, he fits several potential villains. My money is still on Electro or Dr. Connors.

The thing is, he can fit 5 or 6 of Spider-Man's classic villains with no problem, which I think he's playing Connors/Lizard. Now why couldn't Sony just give us the name of the character who he's playing, like all the other movie studios making comic book films? Spider-Man really ended up with a bag full of freakin' nuts for his production.

 They WANTED Sam to do Vulture. They just wanted to add Vultress to the mix.

They said no in SM3 and SM4 was never going to be made. Sony wanted Sam out and they were forcing ridiculous ideas on him.

Sony and 3D doesn't mix. WETA and 3D would give great hope to the new franchise.

sony will use sony imageworks, it's a pity but I just don't see them using anyone else. to be fair the effects in SM2 were fantastic.

Then they will be creating 3D crap right out of the gate with Sony Imageworks.

I'll give you the train scene, everything else was mediocre to average at best (too much unneeded and cartoonish CGI). Especially when you compare it to something like Lord of the Rings or Terminator 2. It's Spider-Man, he should have been groundbreaking and breaking new ground with his films.

WETA DIGITAL is needed.

To me he looks like Kassidy. If this film is trying to sort of be connected to Raimi's films then I definitely see him being Carnage. If they truly are rebooting everything, which still shocks me when this franchise isn't even 10 years old, then I see him playing Connors.

However, as soon as I saw him I instantly thought Kassidy/Carnage. He just looks so much like Kassidy, more so than any other villain pairing and Sony has been really good at selecting their villains. You can sort of gauge who these people are going to be because they try really hard to cast according to look. There was no second doubt in anyone's head who Church or Molina was playing before their character's were announced.

I didn't google him in his drawers that's the way he is in Knotting hill movie. Cletus maybe...I dunno.

If he is the Lizard his wimpy appearance before transformation doesn't matter ....

There's no way he's playing Carnage. A blood thirty serial killer in a Spider-Man movie, yeah right, and I'm the Pope of New York.

He can fit The Lizard, Electro, Mysterio or even The Scorpion. And what the hell is does "WARMTH" have to do with any part of Carnage, he's a serial killer, a thrill killer? Although, I'd love to see how they pull it off. :o

Pulling it off? That's where the warmth will come from.

Well I admit I think he's best fit for Cassidy, but just based on how Webb described the character, we can probably rule that out. No one would use "warmth" when talking about Carnage at all. So I'm guessing Connors, which I wouldn't have a problem with. I like Rhys Ifans, and I have no doubt in my mind he could be an effective villain, whoever that may be.

You are the Pope?

Serial killers, to be creepy, are often warm and then turn around and are vicious.

He screams Kassidy to me. It is like seeing Molina was cast and I automatically knew he was Ock.

I hate Carnage btw...I would rather it be the Mole Man or some crap but you cannot deny that he would be a pitch perfect Kassidy. Plus a serial killing super powered villain running around New York is something like we have never seen and certainly aids to the new 'darker' tone.

Honestly, old boy could be any number of villains, except maybe Rocket Racer, Black Cat, or Lady Ock. But even then, if his thespian skills are that good....

And thanks so much for posting a picture of this ****er in his skivves, now I can barely browse this thread at work.

Well, I think they thought Vulture couldn't hold his own film, so they wanted to add in the VUltress as well. I think that's hopw it whent, or...?

Originally Vultress was suppose to be the Black Cat. I never heard anything about them thinking Vulture couldn't hold the film on his own. I think the reason why Black Cat was changed to Vultress was because of Batman 3, and the likely hood Catwoman would be in that movie. The average fan would probably see Black Cat as a Catwoman ripoff.

I really wish they'd just tell us who he's playing...

But I think it's a weird but wonderful choice. This movie is absolutely full of surprises, and it hasn't even begun!
