Yeah, and I think that's the problem. I wasn't too big on "Chronicles," but regardless of that, when it comes to sci-fi movies, you just can't be cheap with them. Even if you have great characters and a solid story... if your movie looks like something that even the Sci-Fi Channel would reject, then you probably shouldn't bother making the film.
Riddick just doesn't have the following that Diesel wants it to... as a matter of fact I think it may also be the reason that Diesel himself doesn't have much of a fanbase anymore. By shrugging off the xXx and Fast and the Furious sequels to make the Riddick movie, the public lost interest in him and he went from being the next big action star to relative obscurity almost overnight. Not saying that xXx or Fast and the Furious were great movies, but if Diesel had made a few more films in that genre he could have solidified his public favor and then films like Riddick might have generated more attention.
Which is probably why now, after all these years, he's making another Fast and the Furious film. Funny how things come around, isn't it?
