The Dark Knight Rises Riddle Me This: The Riddler Characterization Thread

that would work also...what do u think he would look like appearance wise?

Never ever gonna happen if you want them doing one or two Bat movies.

If they can get Depp as the Riddler it would be great.

It's possible also....Nolan has that kind a pull and Nolan and Depp have not worked together yet.

I'd like Hugh Jackman to be in a Batman film. But Depp would be great as the Riddler

Chiwetel Ejiofor would be an excellent choice, even though he is black, he is one hell of an actor, a truly underrated actor, and needs a good breakthrough and playing a villain in the next Batman movie would do him justice. Just look at him in Four Brothers, then watch Red Belt, the guy has range.

Are you saying he play the Riddler? or someone else?

I like the idea of riddler being a government agent sent in to assist the gcpd in bringing down the batman. He has trouble finding batman and the longer he is in gotham the more obsessed he becomes with bringing him in. He goes so far as to set traps for him that recognizes and avoids, an example ( I would like to see him set batman up the way gordon was trying to in batman year one) they could introduce sarah essen as the officer they use to set him up. Riddlers obsession keeps getting worse and he goes so far as setting traps that actually endanger civillians, his director finds out and he is fired, he does not inform gcpd of his status and takes advantage of their resources until gordon finds out from the director and batman brings riddler down

Yup, Fed/Government Agent Riddler is my favourite so far. It just ties in so well to what will probably be in the next movie, Batman being hunted.

You could even have him grow suspicious of Gordon. Coz Gordon will obviously be trying to bring Batman in, on the surface at least, but maybe secretly tipping Batman off to sting operations etc.

Plus, it would fit in with Nolan's power figures theme. Crane was Head of Arkham and then fell into criminality, Harvey was DA and went into insanity and now Nygma is the best Agent who falls from grace, fitting with Batman's fall from grace.

Agreed. It plays with the role-reversal with Batman. He's the good guy who's perceived as a bad guy, Riddler is the bad guy who is perceived as a good guy.

Fed/Gov Agent Riddler would be awesome...Would he wear his green costume or will Nolan Nolanize it up?

The Riddler's costume is going to be hard to adapt. Unless he's a thief who ventures out into public it'll be tough to justify why he dresses up in a green suit all the time.

I don`t think that he would need a reason to dress green. He just likes it. Maybe just the coat, and the pants black. No need to have a bowler hat though, but it would not bother me.

I dont want Riddler to be like Jigsaw or a ripoff from Guy Pearce in Memento.

listen to ace of knaves cus thats what is most likely going to happen as far as the 3rd movie...it just sounds perfect

But the riddler is all about theatricality. Having a high profile persona, getting all the attention on him, proving that he is smarter than everybody else and nobody can beat his riddles...

That's more egotistical vanity. If anyone is all about theatricality it's the Joker.

It depends on how he operates. If he's a fed or some guy who lives in a basement then how or why would he dress up? Wearing a theatrical outfit only makes sense if you're planning on getting someone's attention.

Yeah, i didnt get that you were talking about an FBI riddler. In that case maybe he will be more discreet. But normally, its all about Riddler's ego so his flashy suit is justified.
Also, gradually Gotham has started to fill up with costumed freaks so i could see a trend coming up. Now you have to wear a suit to be somebody cause simply committing a crime just wont do. So i guess that could justify why many of the villains are flashy.
