1) trailers never show cgi in final form. There's improvement between the trailers and actual final film.
2) I personally didn't see any "weak" cgi. I found it to be very life like. I have a feeling you are confusing your knowledge that a monkey is cg with the idea that the cg is "weak". This isn't a movie where we aren't sure if its cg or real because apes don't emote and aren't intelligent like the movie is portraying. The goal of the movie's cgi isn't to confuse us about what is real and what isn't; it's about making us forget that it isn't real. I KNOW where it's cg just based on my knowledge of reality; but that knowledge does not mean the cg in question is bad or weak.
True, which I hope is the case. Not sure how much hope there is though.
I didn't need to know ANYTHING to spot the CGI Ceasar(mainly because of the face). It looks fairly obvious. As I said before, hopefully the story and performances are really strong to allow me to give the dodgey SFX a pass. But considering the premise(smart apes rise up against mankind) is flawed to begin with(since humans outnumber apes by about 1,000,000 - 1...and have guns/military/technology), I'm not sure about how much one can hope for there as well.
Not necessarily. It also means cutting a lot of corners.No. Rushing a movie means spending bookoos of cash to get it done on time.
Considering you call your self the "superhero movie analyst", I'm surprised at your lack of discerning fantasy's ability to not be held down by the logic and limitations of reality. That's why its called fantasy.
True, its a tough sell - but the history of this movie is a well known one - +40 years worth of public knowledge and love of the franchise will prove itself useful in allowing the more fantastical elements to be accepted within the universe this movie and its franchise has created.
The biggest thing I would be worried about is Franco's acting. He was ok in the the Spidey flicks and I enjoyed him in Pinapple Express, but I think they could have used someone with more skill to anchor this movie.
Based off the latest trailer, does anyone notice the historic elements of the film? What I mean by that is based off parts of the trailer:
The brutal treatment of the apes by the humans, which leads to a violent and bloody uprising by the oppressed. Reminds me a bit of the European Colonizations of Africa and the Americas, which were at times oppressive (French in Algeria, Spain in most of Latin America, The British during the era of the American Revolution, Portuguese in Africa, Belgians in the Congo).
