Homecoming Robert Downey Jr IS Tony Stark / Iron Man

A shame, really. I'd love to see a film interpretation of his Marvel NOW suit or whatever it is. The one in Civil War II.

They'd probably wait for another IM or Avengers film for that, though...or maybe not. He did get a new suit in Civil War, after all.

Not even close, this movie revolves around Spidey. Just like I thought it would, people overreact.

The trailer (at least the US version) felt more like a promo for Iron Man than Spidey at times. But I guess that's smart marketing wise, since there are a lot of young viewers and non-comic fans that might be all about the MCU but not really familiar with Spider-Man.

My guess is RDJ doesn't figure too prominently in the film.

You know, I don't really have a problem with Tony being a mentor, and I like RDJ. But it seems that we're not going to get the big time inventor Spidey on screen any time soon - or at least to the extent people have been wanting. Which is unfortunate.

I feel that people are blowing the "Peter should be a genius!!" thing out of proportion. Peter is still just a kid, and for his age he is really damn smart, having created the web shooters and the fluid and so on. It's much more natural and cooler if he in time grows from an ordinary genius into that super genius, and while I haven't read that much spidey comics, I bet that's how it was originally as well

People have been wanting Spidey to be more hands on with his gear. Garfield's Peter had the webbing, but even then, it was an Oscorp creation and fans didn't really respond to it that much. Stark is basically going to be his Q/Lucius Fox. If those same people who wanted a more hands on Spidey are totally okay with this direction, they have sold out.

I thought he was actually going for a hug.
It's like they made him open the door just for a joke that is unnecessary.

Flying along Spidey swinging is exciting to see, my two favorite Marvel heroes together in a movie.

We won't have my beloved Hobgoblin any time soon, also unfortunate. Doesn't mean we won't get it in the future. I can't image a better way to write Spider-Man into MCU, but with help of RDJ's TS. Considering his central role and super-star status.

I don't know how much more hands on this Spidey could be right now, he started out with self made costume, web fluid and shooters. And it's not like comicbook teenage Peter would refuse a helpful upgrade from Tony cause he wants to be a self-made superhero. Some people are acting like this is betraying the character of Peter and it's just not. We already know he's really smart, we don't need constant overcompensating reminders of that

Lastly, it seems that his and Tony's partnership will dissolve in this movie so people are worried probably over nothing

I can agree with that. I still take issue with Stark being his provider (largely) despite my turnarounds in regards to the movie.

That said, as TheWallCrawler pointed out (along with others in the GD thread), this relationship won't be lasting much longer if the trailer is anything to go off of.

Is tony using the same armor from cw in the new trailer?
Darn, that's a shame

Would've figured that there at least be one or two subtle differences between this one and Mark 46, as the case has always been between installments

We've already seen that Peter created his own webbing and web shooters, a feat so impressive that it caught the eye of Marvel's premiere genius billionaire playboy superhero. I couldn't care less where he gets the costume from, that wasn't an important aspect of the comic or the previous movies.

I agree. Not to mention that Peter is often portrayed as a bit "bumbling", so it makes sense that he wouldn't feel just right yet with making his own gear. I think Tony being involved makes sense, even if it does just feel like an excuse for the character to be in the film.

I dunno, unless it's how it played out in the source material, I generally think heroes should either create their own costumes or be gifted with it from someone from their unique supporting cast. Iron Man being the one to come up with Spider-Man's iconic look makes the latter feel a little like a sidekick. I'd feel the same if Batman created Superman's costume.

It's not important at the end of the day (especially since it appears as if Peter will want to establish independence from Stark); just a personal preference.

I totally want to see Batman make Superman's costume. A scene where he's sat by a sewing machine stitching it together would be hilarious.

llHe's already created the web shooters, the webbing, and made his own homemade costume BEFORE Tony shows up. If anything it's part of what made Tony seek him out, Tony was impressed and curious. And given that Tony is one of the most brilliant genius inventors/tech guys in the MCU, and a billionaire with a massive ego to boot, him being impressed by Peter is in an of itself, impressive.

I couldn't care less if he used his know how and resources to help Peter make some upgrades. If anything, it makes sense (especially since Vulture seems like he's gotten a serious upgrade here as well).

I agree entirely.

I have a serious rebuttal to the "He made his own costume/Webshooters" deflection. But I'm not gloing to engage because I'm fully onboard with the movie & willing to see where Marvel goes with Peter's rejection of being Tony's sidekick, not trusting him. "Sick of him treating me like a kid all of the time."

I'm happy to hear you're on board, Harry

Indeed. If Iron Man wasn't gifting Peter all this stuff, and he was making it himself, people would be loving it. No doubt about it in my mind. I like RDJ, but he's more or less here to cement the vibe this is the MCU world. Peter made the homemade costume, but it's still just a two second cameo. A footnote. The majority of the narrative will now be 'Tony made the suit and gave him new gear'.
