The Winter Soldier Robert Redford offically joins Cap:TWS

So very much want to see!

For a dude nearing 80… I am into him big time.

Big. Time.

He's still pretty badass. The Wikipedia tells me he did all his own water stunts in this.

He's seriously giving Sebastian and Chris and Mackie a run for their money in my fangirl heart.

Do we know how big his part was in this movie?

I do hope that it's more than just some five minutes role with only a few lines of dialoques

Even though it was a fake spoiler, I do hope "Track 10" comes true. It would be an amazing twist!

Hmm, could this be Redford?

It's the part where they're visiting WS strapped to the chair I think.

Either him or Steve McQueen. Yep. They're like everyone's first choice for a 1970's era Cap.

I think Steve McQueen is better playing a rebel or someone who's against the grain, so Redford is probably a better fit for Rogers.

A young Redford could probably play Steve Rogers back in the day imo.

That was the first thing I thought when he was first cast.

I'm sure thats a part of Marvel's reasoning behind his casting, to create a parallel between Steve Rogers and Alexander Pierce

For what it's worth in the comics, I believe it was sometime while Cap was dating Bernie Rosenthal, she or another female character actually did say that Steve looked a lot like Robert Redford. It may have been mentioned several times to describe Steve but I only remember the one reference for sure. And yeah the comic book Steve Rogers at least in the stuff from the 70's and 80's does look a lot like Robert Redford.

I wouldn't be surprised if Redford was ever told that he looked like comic book Steve. All that makes Redford's casting all the more special and in and of itself a tip of the hat to the comics from the period they are said to be emulating with the 70's political thriller vibe.

Yeah. Its nice to see at least one company put this amount of thought into their projects.

It's really too perfect, Redford in this role. He could've easily been Captain America if they had decided to produce a movie in the 1970's. He's associated with political thrillers, which the Russos and Marvel decided to use as inspiration.

Really, it's almost Kismet how it worked out.

Redford gave an interview to EMPIRE last year where they brought it up and when they asked him if he would've played the role if there was a movie of Cap being made back in the 70s he said no. Though he then briefly mentions getting the offer to play Superman (as he was one of the many unlikely superstar names WB were considering).

I heard that Richard Donner didn't want Redford to play Superman because he was too big a name. In Donner's mind, it wouldn't have been a "Superman movie" it would have been a "Robert Redford movie." That's why he went with the mostly unknown Christopher Reeve.
