I think the repeat viewings will definitely be determined by how good this is.. and it's looking pretty good by the little concept art we have. I have high hopes, I think the director is a talent, although his potential has not been fully tapped yet. Here's hoping he pulls something special out of the bag with this. All that being said, I'm not so sure of the writer talent on this movie. Time will tell.
this film will definitely do very well in the box office. the fact that it's a Star Wars film and it is following the well received Force Awakens is more than enough to guarantee that Rogue One will make bank.
I can't imagine it will come close to TFA considering it just won't have that anticipation as the first Star Wars film in 10 years and the first to feature the original cast since 1983, but I would imagine it's still going to be a massive event.
Domestically I think it's going to be 400m+ easily... Hard to know the ceiling.
Worldwide it should be over a billion pretty easily IMO.
I think it wouldn't be unreasonable to see this film doing $1b to $1.2b. The fan base alone will take this to over $600-$700m. This won't have the halo effect or broader cross-generational family appeal that Ep7 had, so no way it's going to do $2b, but on the upside it could do over $1.5b.
I say somewhere around $1,1-1,2 billion. It carries the nostalgia from the OT and just as TFA, it will bring new fans to the franchise as well (although not as many). I just feel angry that there will be so many misinformed and lazy people that won't have done even slightest research and will walk straight into this expecting it to be Ep.8 and complain afterwards. This might give it a bit of a bad WOM in some areas. Hopefully, this won't happen.
I'm pretty sure with Vader showing up in this, it's only going to help escalate the figures to some degree. This film will make nothing less than a billion.
I have no doubt in my mind that this film is destined for $1.5 billion. The trailers have been absolutely amazing. Visually stunning and just enough information to whet the appetite without giving away the whole movie. The weekend right before Christmas is the perfect release date. Its first 3 weekends are going to be humongous. And there's Vader. Nuff said.
