Shazam Rotten Tomatoes/Critics reaction thread

The rt meter run is really stronng for shazam. One more positive and it can reach 95 again due to rounding, 92 reviews.

So you came here to promote your own review...

I always suspected that many posters here on SHH are actually reviewers themselves.

At least the newest rotten review likes its actors' performances.

91% positive at 102 reviews, 9 negative, 7.59/10 average.

Dammit, I want this to be received better than Wonder Woman.

It still could be higher or lower, we shall see.

Now 105 with 3 more fresh. At this point, it's getting harder to raise the percentage but wish for the best.

While I don't really think about final score much at this point (it won't be rotten or lose its fresh certification anyway), I do must admit that many people care and higher score would help to entice people. I skim some of social media posts and RT did actually influenced them in some mays.

One more and it regains 92%
I just wish it stays 90+
The amount of rotten reviews that came out between yesterday and today had me worried that "all the critics that didn't like it decided to release their reviews this week", but I don't think that's the case anymore.

I think it has a chance to stays at 90s.
Even if it falls short, I'm already so grateful. This is far cry from SS JL days.
The buzz and overall public concensus concludes that this movie is a critical success. I'm more concerned about BO performance these days.

109 reviews now, all the new ones are fresh, 92%
28 reviews on metacritic, holding at 74 after Roger Moore's mixed review at 50
On Letterboxd it's at 3.8 ever since the Fandango screenings on the 23rd
On IMDb it started at 8.2 and quickly went to 8.3 and it's been holding at that for days.
On Rotten Tomatoes the "want to see vote" grew a lot since the screenings, it was around 5k votes and now it's at around 8,500. I know it's not a good indicator but Endgame for instance is at 12,400 votes and the direct competition is fairly behind (Pet Sematary: 810 votes / Hellboy: 17 votes)

Just a roundup :)

Also, I just realized it never went under 91 (or 90? can't remember) on RT. Pretty good sign.

So it is about a third of the way through and holding steady at 92%. I would say unless the next wave is just awful it should hold pretty steady.

This is great. And a lot of the new ones are Top Critics too.
I know about 1 review not yet posted that is gonna be rotten, from The Playlist, whose critic flat out refused to post a review to Captain Marvel because he thought it was bad but didn't want to feed the trolls. It's probably coming anytime now.
But there's also the WaPo that is still not posted, and a few other critics that have talked about liking it but have not yet posted their reviews yet.
I'm much more sure that it's gonna stay on that range now.

EDIT: 33 reviews on Metacritic now and still 74. Looks like it's staying in the 70s by the end of it at least.

Due to a small-scale origin story, a light tone entertaining enough for the whole family, and charismatic energy courtesy of the cast, Shazam continues DC’s streak of enjoyable standalones that solidifies they’re on the right track.

SHAZAM! Review Here

Can someone explain Metacritic to me I have never paid attention to it. Thanks :)

It's a more conventional aggregator where the score is actually the average of the reviewers' score instead of "percentage of how many reviews are good or better" like RT is
And the critics/publications that are counted are only the ones that are considered Top Critic on RT, or at least on that level, so it gets around 40-50 reviews only.

So is 74 a good number?

Thanks BTW :)

74 puts it at #6 on DC movie rankings, between Wonder Woman and Superman Returns. Of course #1 is Superman II, but it's based on 12 reviews.

If anyone wants to read for fun:
DC Comics Movies, Ranked

91% positive at 102 reviews, 9 negative, 7.59/10 average.

I missed it drop to 91%, so it's even more awesome to see it back at 93% again.

74 is pretty good for superhero movies. Wonder Woman is 76. Infinity War is 68.

Yeah it would take a lot for it to drop. Pretty sweet :)
