Rumored Marvel Reboot: Discussion

UNCLE BEN IS DEAD! NOW AND FOREVER!

So shaddup. :p

I think that instead of rebooting, Marvel just needs to "slow down" a bit. Not every story needs to be a big world-ending crossover with massive continuity consequences.

Sometimes an issue can be "here's two Avengers (or two X-Men) on a date and whoops something wacky happens!"[/QUOTE

I completely agree, comics that have entertaining short stories without reality altering situations are some of my favorite ever.

If there were a line-wide reboot, I would take the opportunity to drop all my comics from Marvel. I tried with DC's New 52 and everything was awful. I might continue reading the rebooted Thor stuff just to see how it is, but I eventually ditched even my favorite DC characters' New 52 series. Not even Thor would be sacred enough to me if Marvel's reboot turned out as badly as the New 52 has.

On the up side, I'd save myself a lot of money and be able to focus on more indies, which are usually better quality overall than the Big 2's necessarily conservative stuff anyway.

I'm a lot less forgiving with my Thor stuff than you. I haven't read it yet, but all this 10th realm business upsets me greatly. And that's not even a reboot, just a "clever" way to shoehorn that floozy Angela into my mythology! :cmad:

I feel the same way about Spider-Man that Corp does about Thor. If they reboot the entire line, I'm not coming back....even to Spider-Man. I suffered through Brand New Day. I have no interest in seeing Peter back as a kid again. He's perfect where he is now as a scientist with a doctorate and his own mini version of Stark Enterprises.

Spider-Man's the one person I could see them rebooting the hardest. Idk why people love to see Peter struggling to pay rent and eating Ramen noodles for dinner. It's like some weird sadistic comic thing.

It's part of the relate-ability factor... he's one of the few super-heroes that struggles with money... like most of us...

Most of us aren't of genius level intellect though. It's frustrating to watch such a brilliant person having to sell pictures of himself for scraps. Dis Uncle Ben have any catchy slogans about wasted potential as well as power and responsibility?

I agree, it's taken him so long to get here and I was pleasantly surprised that after Superior he was able to keep this. I swear, I can understand conflict in fiction, but if Pete ever regresses and goes back to living with May and selling pictures of Spidey in the 616 it'll be a waste. Such a stupid waste. I don't get why Marvel is so afraid to age him up sliiiiiiiiiiiightly.

I would like to see them not completely ignore his photographer roots. It could still be a hobby for him, go off and take pictures of nature as a way to decompress from his regular life as Spidey.

Hay all first post here. I had posted something like this over at sideshow freaks about splitting the universe, but after reading these comments i kind of have gone off the idea now.
However a really dark Midnight Sons side universe would be nice
Midnight Sons/Marvel Knights universe
Blade - Dracula - Wolfman - Morbius - Man Thing -Doctor Strange - Ghost Rider -Lilith - Mephisto - Black Heart -Moon Knight -Brother Voodoo - Hellstrom.
Basically they could do a darker universe here, much like they did with Ultimate Universe.

Darker versions of Daredevil - Punisher - Darker Wolverine and Elektra could be included along with villains related to those characters just to give the universe a few more twists.
Any thoughts on this

Horror comics do not sell well at Marvel. They had a Morbius and Brother Voodoo book at Marvel in the past couple of years and both did not last long. The Morbius book was on the heels of 2 successful Spider-Man spin offs too. There is a Ghost Rider comic currently I think but they never seem to last either.

It's hard to get anyone to try these things when there's so much Avengers and X-Men flooding the market.

Peter is unable to fulfill his potential because his responsibilities to being Spider-Man prevents him...

Peter wants a normal life, but his guilt ridden responsibilities to being Spider-Man prevents him from doing so... It's the perfect dichotomy and it's what makes us want to BE Spider-Man... Because he always takes the higher moral road in spite to how much it'll screw up his life as Peter Parker.

Bummer i always loved there Blade stuff, but there is so little of it. The same with Midnight Sons. It was a Good idea

I believe the horror line can thrive at Marvel with good creative teams and good stories...

I get that, and it'd be more understandable if he didn't live in NYC where every other person is a superhero. He can go conduct his business for 8 hours a day and rest assured than the streets will be relatively safe b/c other heroes are on the job. But w/e, you've explained the appeal of Spider-Man; I just want this dude to be successful :(

That's a start. I think the best way to go about it would be to go the route they did with the cosmic line. Put out a bunch of 6 issue limited series and build to a larger story.

It still all doesn't solve the saturation problem at Marvel. If you look at the time period during Midnight Sons, Marvel only had 2 Avengers books and 2 X-Men titles. The guy with the most was Spider-Man at 4 and even back then there was chatter if it was too much.

After the Age of Apoc series, when i noticed a million X-men titles and min series that i had to get together.

But... if everything reboots... Stan Lee will never be born!
Also many characters or teams would be open to get a "politically correct" modification.

if this happens, il be soooo sad. I gave the new 52 2 years before i realized how much i didnt like the comics i was reading, i was just buying them out of habbit, and the want to be loving it, but one day i had to just face the facts, i really dislike everything they did to my favorite characters, and i was not enjoying anything i was reading. I read no dc books any more, and i fear that i would have a similar fate with marvel if they choose to do so.

Nah. They've had good creative teams and GREAT stories in the past on their horror stuff, and nobody cared. I remember how well written Darkhold was, but back in those days, nothing at Marvel was really selling unless it had a big ****ing "X" in the title, no matter how ****** the content was... :yay:

Enough with the heroes vs heroes crap too.

Yes, but that was also 1992/1994, and comics sold differently back then... people were flocking to the X books because they were "hot"... people tend to gravitate towards certain writers more so today than before... I'm not saying it'd work, but it certainly can't help... I was one of the few people reading Swamp Thing BEFORE Alan Moore came on board for issue #20, and good word of mouth certainly helps... look at Superior Foes... still not cancelled... why? because it gets really good word of mouth, which translates to moderate sales...

I hate to sound like a buzzkill, but I really can't stand the direction Modern Marvel has gone in. Spider-Man has been disappointing for a few years and I'm about to check out of there and keep reading Daredevil. Maybe Cap. Hulk really trailed off, Venom started off promising.

Really not a fan of all the events, heroes fighting, and the Illuminati doing stuff like brainwashing Captain America or blowing up planets. I feel like they're really getting away from the "flawed" heroism and more towards them just being absolutely awful people and that's fine for whoever is into that, but that's not what I'm looking for in a superhero comic. If Marvel does reboot, it might give them the chance to start fresh again. They'd likely tailor everything to be a lot like the current Marvel Cinematic Universe, but as long as they kept stories fairly entertaining and kept the heroes heroic I'd be willing to check it out and more optimistic toward it.
