Rumored Marvel Reboot: Discussion

If they did reboot, I'd hope they'd have the balls that DC didn't and actually reboot the damn thing completely. I've got a few ideas on how it should be done (for both companies), but this half-assed thing DC pulled is disappointing and made things more confusing.

Spider-Man has been disappointing for a few years

Spider-Man has been really good since Slott took full control. The ASM relaunch has been off to a bumpy start but we'll have to see if it can regain the momentum it had at the conclusion of Superior.

I'm not the least bit familiar with the DC reboot. How exactly in your opinion did they half ass it?

Some history was kept, other stuff wasn't. If you want to reboot, wipe the slate clean.

Slott is actually my problem with it. I am just not a fan of that dude's writing in any way.

As far as the DC reboot, I didn't really find anything too confusing and I've just enjoyed most of what's come out of it greatly.

I really hope and hate the idea of a Marvel Reboot...
The Characters I grew up reading wouldn't consider killing billions of characters to save their Earth...

Have you had a chance to check out his work on Silver Surfer? Imo, it's one of the best titles out right now...of the titles I've read so far, of course ;) His writing within is fresh and witty.

This. The whole "flawed" hero thing has gotten out of hand. It was fine when they'd occasionally stumble a bit here and there and had problems to deal with, but to me this gets way too far away from the point of what superheroes should be. It just feels like another one of those attempts where it tries too hard to make stuff deep or mature. I can handle messed up stuff, I don't mind comics like that. I just don't think superhero comics should be like that.

Eh, I dunno. The heroes have always been flawed as long as I've been reading. Every writer at some point puts them into a situation that tests their morals. It's the Hero vs Hero that needs to be scaled back a ton. They also need to really calm down with the character crossovers. Perfect example: right now in Avengers the story is dealing with Cap finding about Iron Man and the New Avengers mind wipe. Meanwhile in Cap's solo book, Iron Man is basically a supporting character and their relationship is all good. There needs to be more of an emphasis on each characters own supporting cast exclusive to them.

A reboot for the 2010s would be a good idea. And hopefully it will be a better interpretation of the source than Ultimate.

Spectacular Spider-Man and Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes were excellent ways of retelling and condensing the classic stories in the modern age.

At this point, with everything that's going on in the 616, I say f*** it, go for it, reboot the damn thing, Marvel
I stopped reading a couple months ago anyway, maybe a reboot would have some books worth reading

There's nothing wrong with the 616 universe. Reboots are cheap and stupid.

I know, and generally agree

I just think everything going on in the comics right now is cheap and stupid.

It's amazing, grew up for years assuming comic movies would never compare to the comics (if they even got made)
Now it's the complete opposite, I'm only interested in the films while the comics have become intolerable.

it's a constant barrage of crap events, meaningless deaths, and other assorted stunts, poor editorial control, and-even on the art side- some godawful design decisions
I just can't, anymore...

To each his own, I guess. Comics have varied in quality since I started reading them 25 years ago and, I'm sure, before that too. I've always done my best to just weed out what I don't like and focus on the stories I do, of which there are still plenty on the market.

yeah that's what I've been doing, since the early 90's, I certainly don't have every x-book from that time
right now, i guess I'm just bummed mostly, because there's not a single book that holds interest for me
Last one I was getting was Thor, and the Malekith arc followed by the Roxxon arc wore me down (outside of the King Thor/Galactus stuff)

I don't care how boring things may be to some people. Throwing away over 50 years of history is never the answer......NEVER.

I knowwwww, I know, it's a tad selfish on my part..
but if they keep going this direction, its only a matter of time till you all see it my way!!

muahahahahahahaaa

remember, thats your own opinion. You seem passionate about it, but that does not make it true. im sorry you feel that way

One bad thing about a reboot is that great characters will disappear.
Ben Reilly and Kaine.
X-23
Franklin and Valeria

Also, Every book should be weekly now.
One month between books is just too long in today's day and age.
They should also be 30 pages of main story.

Ha! Good luck with getting artists to ever keep up with that kind of demand.

You know how much the quality would suffer to make that happen? Especially the art-work. You'd either have to rush an artist horrendously (and basically guarantee that they can only ever do one book at a time), or have different artists switch off every issue and preclude any kind of consistency. And to add to that, think of how expensive it'd get to afford comics at that rate? Buying four times the quantity of something you enjoy would be enough, but then consider that the prices would likely increase because of the extra pages (pricier to produce just in terms of ink and paper, plus shipping and the extra workload on the writers and artists).

I wouldn't want every comic to be weekly. That would be way too expensive at today's price points. Just following one series regularly would cost $16 a month instead of $4. If they started going weekly with everything, you'd see a lot of pull lists being cut down to next to nothing. Thor fans would basically only be reading Thor comics, Cap fans only Cap comics, etc. No one would be able to afford to branch out the way they do now.

Rotating Artists, just like Spider-Man did a few years ago.
With Spider-Man it was fine, because it was done mostly to replace two satellite titles
Rest of the characters get 1 title a month most of the time

In Japan they pretty much give you a magazine with some 10 different issues of different series in 200 pages total for just 3 dollars, some of the prices pulled by Marvel and DC are realy exagerated.
