What's a movie scene that gets you misty-eyed no matter how many times you watch it? Some of the best, IMO.

(My apologies in advance if I'm spoiling anything for you)

Spock's death in ST II: The Wrath of Khan

Anthony Hopkins' character moves on in Meet Joe Black

Gandalf's fall and apparent death in LOTR: The Fellowship of the Ring

The end of The Wrestler

The end scenes of Milk

The end scenes of American History X

King Kong. Both versions.
Dustin Hoffman in Midnight Cowboy.

Nicole Kidman in Moulin Rouge. It wasn't so much her death that got to me, it was Ewan McGregor's crying

Bambi's mother.
HAL 9000 in 2001.
Sean Connery and Audrey Hepburn in "Robin and Marian."

(This whole thread is actually one big spoilerfest for people who haven't seen the movies.:woot:)

some post up there i would agree with
and also i would pick Neo in revolutions

HAL 9000 in 2001.

Good f***ing call! Great scene...

Braveheart...William Wallace seeing his wife in the crowd awating him as he dies a terribly painful death.

The Waynes' death in BB and Batman 89'.

Boromir's in LOTR: The Fellowship.

Rules of Attraction: girl kills herself in bathroom.

Dead Poet's Society: Neil Perry's suicide.

Lion King: Mufasa's death. I know...I know...but I saw it when I was 12 and it tormented me.

Nicole Kidman in Moulin Rouge. It wasn't so much her death that got to me, it was Ewan McGregor's crying
I must agree, this gets to me too. The same hapens to me in the Godfather 3 when Mary dies. Michael's reaction just guts me.

Many others that come to mind:
- John Coffey in the Green Mile
- Don Corleone, Sonny and Fredo in the Godfather movies.
- Bambi's mom :csad:
- Mufasa in Lion King
- Colonel Nicholson in The Bridge on the River Kwai
- Obi-Wan Kenobi in a New Hope
- Neil in Deat Poet's Society
- ET (even thought we find later he didnt die, this part just gets to me!)
- Darth Vader in Return of the Jedi.
- Tony Montana in Scarface
- Apolo Creed in Rocky IV
- Goose in Top Gun
- T-800 (Arnold) in Terminator 2
- William Wallace in Braveheart
- Guido in Life is Beautiful
- Captain John Miller in Saving Private Ryan
- Maximus in Gladiator
- Boromir in LOTR Fellowship of the Ring
- Leonidas in 300

Man, i'm depressed after remembering all of these :hehe:

Spock in STII is definitely up there. I'd also have to give a shoutout to Harry Stamper in Armageddon. It wasn't his actual death so much as the emotional anguish of A.J. when he's screaming through the airlock and Grace crying when Harry's saying goodbye to her.

The end of The Departed also was something that just got to me. It wasn't that what happens in the elevator is sad, it happens so unexpectedly that you don't really have time to process anything mentally. That had to be the best jawdrop moment of my generation.

Ed Bloom in Big Fish, maybe not so much sad, just tear-jerking

My brother used to cry when Kurt Russell dies in Backdraft

Ribisi in Saving Private Ryan

End of Phenomenon
End of A.I. (the mom clone)

- Tony Montana in Scarface

Yeah man, I cried my eyes out at that one aswell. Seeing the tragic downfall of this man who was at the absolute top of his happiness, living in well-earned luxury after having built his fortune in an honest and noble way, really touched me.

Pacino's subtle, understated performance made the scene all the more powerful.

Mufasa in The Lion King
Ofelia in Pan's Labyrinth very much so
Some of the deaths when the Titanic was sinking and that music:( The mother with her two kids in bed:( The old couple:(

I'll mention a death scene that no one else has yet: Chow Yun Fat in Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. I also thought the death of that soldier who were killed by the german via daggar through the heart in Saving Private Ryan is particularly sad.

Optimus Prime...Transformer the movie.

....what? It's true!!!

Sobbed the most in the theater: death of Captain Robert Gould Shaw in Glory

I'm gonna go ahead a throw out a video game one if no one is opposed:

Aeris in Final Fantasy 7
