Saddest Character Death Scene

When they were playing baseball in A League of Their Own to commemorate those that have passed was sad.
I teared up a bit when you find out that the one girl who had her son with her all the time died and her son grew up and was looking at the picture of his mom on the wall at the Hall of Fame.

When Capt Willenbrock, the U Boat captain in Das Boot dies watching his boat sinking.

Everyone who died in Deep Impact
Harry in Armageddon
Roger in Dawn of the Dead
Jean Grey in X-2

Outside of ones that have already been mentioned, I think the one death scene I've seen lately that's gotten to me was
George Kirk in the new "Star Trek"...at least more so than the other major death in the film.

Kong in Peter Jackson's King Kong. Definitely the one that stands out above all others to me.

Anthony Hopkins' character moves on in Meet Joe Black.

I wouldn't call this a sad scene, but definitely one of the best death sequences ever. The epitome of bittersweet.

A lot of these deaths were inspiring more than anything else.

Yeah, if the thread title were "Best Character Death Scene" I'd have some different answers. Some great death scenes have too much of an inspirational meaning behind them to qualify as the saddest.

Oh, and Achilles and especially Hector in Troy were quite heartbreaking.

I was recently watching Wrath Of Khan for the first time, and while I knew he would be revived, Spock's death almost made cry. :csad:

Rabisi in SPR. Nimoy in WOK. Hoffman in Midnight Cowboy. Nicholas in Cuckoos Nest. And yeah, I'll admit to getting teary eyed at Anakin's death in the arms of Luke in SW:ROTJ on first viewing. Oh, and Aidan Quinn's dog in Crusoe.

A few of these have been mentioned already...

Hector in Troy. He was the man, I actually felt really terrible for him. And when Achilles realized what he done was wrong it made it worse. Don't care what anyone says, Troy is a great movie.

John Coffey

Rorshcach. I knew it was coming, but it was just so meaningful and beautiful in a twisted sorta way, couldn't help but be upset.

McMurphy in Cuckoos Nest.

And no one has mentioned this, Clive Owens character in Children of Men. Man, if there was one guy in a film I didn't wanna see die, it was him. What a legend.

Ohh and also Marv from Sin City.

John Coffey in the Green Mile
Obi-Wan Kenobi in a New Hope
Darth Vader in Return of the Jedi.
Tony Montana in Scarface
Apolo Creed in Rocky IV
Goose in Top Gun
T-800 (Arnold) in Terminator 2
William Wallace in Braveheart
Captain John Miller in Saving Private Ryan
Maximus in Gladiator
Boromir in LOTR Fellowship of the Ring
Leonidas in 300
Ollie Weeks, Billy Dryton,Amanda Dunfrey,(two older people?) in the end
of the MIST
King Kong(both versions)
Thomas J. Sennett in MY GIRL

You were sad for Tony? I was more sad for Manny.

But yea that is a good one, Maximus. But I suppose I was sorta happy for him too, getting to see his family again. That was a very touching scene. Brilliant film.

Spoons in Dog Soldiers.

Goddammit man, he could of at least survived too!
