San Francisco At It Again

no, you don't get it.
there are people that never et out of those jobs, you know that thing that parents tell you about your unlimited potential?
that's a lie.
not everyone can do anything, do you relly think that all those jobs used to be done by 15 year olds?

Now they're done by ******s. And if you're 45, not ******ed and are still a burger flipper at McDonalds instead of actually running that McDonalds, there's no ****ing dignity in that.

It's not "unlimited potential". It's actually giving a damn about one's career and bettering it by moving past entry level position jobs.

And if that happened because they didn't do good in school, boo ****ing hoo.

It should come at the expense of individuals?

Thank you Sparkle, individuals matter more than a few mom and pop stores.

You're not seeing the big picture here! There has to be balance. One that gives a slight favor to the employer (like 45/50 - 55/60). The economy is dependent on small businesses remaining in business.

Not only that, a person with a McJob doesn't deserve benefits. A person with skill deserves them.

Owner of a sweat shop in London circa 1803 - "These people don't deserve benefits, there all a bunch of drunkin' peasants anyways".

The person who flips burgers and dips fries in a fryer does not deserve benefits.

The person who says "Hi, welcome to Wal-Mart!" and gives you the little smilie face sticker, does not deserve benefits.

I do not deserve benefits.

People who work in jobs that any random joe and a chimp can do. DO NOT DESERVE benefits. People should earn them.

Not only that, there is a thing called capitalism.

Pure capitalism sure works well, look at all of those happy senior citizens that work at Wal-Mart, I'm sure if they wanted to they could retire.

Like that 87 year old door greeter has worked at Wal-Mart for 70+ years. More than likely, they've retired from a career in another field, and instead of sitting around they house they work a part-time schedule at the store.

My grandma is 82. Aside from raising 4 kids, one of which was my mom, she worked at a bank and also took care of her family farm. She did volunteer work at one of the hospitals in Memphis for 20 years until the arthritis in her knee got too painful.

you do know that there are people that move past that and then have to come back to entry level postions for a variety fo reasons, don't you find your reasoning a tad cold?
you know, back in the 50's janitors weren't exactly celebrated, but they weren't looked down upon, and most Janitors were old dudes.
I think that this "capitalism"thing has blinded people to the reality of life.
meh, either way, don't give them any benefits, I'm sure there's plenty of poor Mexican willing to staff those positions

Bull ****, nobody goes to work at Wal-Mart because they're bored. Senior Citizens go to work there because they are on a fixed income and they still can't make ends meet. Then, when they get sick they can't afford to take the time off.

I'm just waiting for Memphis Slim to come in and say "The poorer you are da more money you have" (actual quote).

Workers aren't exploited, there is a minimum wage, labor laws to ensure safe practices. Guarunteed PAID sick days are ridiculous. So now a fry cook at McDonalds gets paid sick days?

WHEN, exactly, was the last time you tried to live a normal life on $5.15 an hour?

I could care less about paid sick days but when you throw around stuff like "workers aren't exploited" and "there is a minimum wage" you run the risk of sounding like an *******.

Try to live your life while working at McDonalds. I doubt you'd sound so high and mighty then, my friend

Thank you, I'm so ****ing tired of hearing people say "minimum wage is called minimum for a reason".

Minimum wage jobs like McDonalds aren't meant to be careers. People aren't meant to live off them. And maybe, here is a shocking idea...people can work 2 jobs. The nerve, I know to expect unskilled laborers who contribute nothing to the market other than dipping a basket in a deep fryer to have to work hard to get by.

That's one of the reasons for suicide
That's one of the reasons why people should stop going to MacD or WalMart. Or why governments should force them to increase the wages and give benefits like paid sick days.

Mom and pop stores are owned by individuals. You sound like an idiot. People like you are the reason small businesses can't stay open, but you're also the *******s picketting Wal-Mart for driving everyone out of business.

LOL, yeah, no one told them to be huddled masses.
they should be good little morlocks and tend the pipes and ****.

meh...again, what do I care?

That's the point that I've been trying to make.

Ever consider they put themselves there? Why the hell should I support someone who threw their life away? Most people who want to make something of themselves can. And those who get dealt a bad hand, I sympathize for them, really, I do...but the fact is if you work hard enough you usually can get yourself in a passable living situation. Not everyone is going to live in luxury, but with enough work you can get yourself in a position where you can get benefits, livable wages, etc. But our society seems to strive on hand outs and frown on the concept of working to get things.

hmmm, it's intereting for someone to so quickly deem someone else's life a waste.
particularly followed by such a weak-sauce attempt at empathy.
either way, and seriously though.
I don't really care.:o
It's just that it seems like every decade we work more and more and we get less and less under the idea of capitalism and free enterprise, yet the products we consume get more expensive in some cases ridiculously cheap in others.
I don't know, seems like attitude is the key to change, but what do I know.
