Scooby-Doo Heading Back to the Big Screen

I think by using a real dog takes away from Scooby even if they CG the mouth.

You can still give him some personality, the 101 Dalmations live action adaptation didn't have the dogs speak, and it worked better for that. When it comes to these kinds of cartoon adaptations, they need to offer a different perspective on the main concept, while still being close to the source material.

The previous adaptation already sticked way too close to it, the new one shouldn't try doing the same, especialy when we know it didn't work.

I say, do a creepy mystery film for kids, anyone remembers Monster House? That film was realy creepy for a children's movie, with Scooby-Doo i would also be expecting an atmosphere closer to the Universal Horror films.

How do they condense Mystery Incorporated into one film? I only started watching it via Boomerang, but it seems pretty dense.

Cant see them finding a better fit for Shaggy. Hope they get some that's actually hot for Daphne.

Velma being 10 times hotter than Daphne was an error with the original movies

Any news on this?

BTW this looks cool.

I heard that the Mystery Incorporated show was actually a good but darker take on the series. If anything they should follow that template. I think the second live action scooby doo movie monsters unleashed is decent but that first one is pretty bad. In the first one none of the characters besides Shaggy and maybe scooby act like their cartoon counter parts. But I will say that I thought Sarah Michelle was hot as Daphne.

But holy crap the cgi for scooby in all the live action movies are laugh out loud bad. It's even more cringe worthy for those live action straight to DVD prequel movies. It's like they didn't even TRY with those movies in the CGI department.

I would love for them to make a Scooby movie more like Zombie Island and Mystery Incorporated. Those two were the most mature of anything Scoobie related.

O yea I forgot about Zombie Island that they should totally do a live action movie version of that animated movie or have a similar tone and story. Thinking back that was kinda dark for a kids movie.

Zombie Island's the best Scooby Doo movie so far, animated or live action.

I like Sara Michelle in general but boy, she was a miscast for Daphne. It didn't really suit her. Get someone who is an actual redhead for the role.

I really liked Zombie Island.

I doubt they will make a movie that will ever top that. I watched it a few years back, and I was surprised by how dark it was for a kid's movie.

Had some great atmosphere, and build up.

I think what made it work, besides the whole "this time, the monsters are real", is that the writers actually took the plot seriously, but not at the cost of fun.

It knew when to be serious, and when to be light. And it actually got pretty damn scary (for a kid's movie).

they acutely remade two Scooby doo movies on cartoon network the first one was called Scooby doo mystery beings then the second was called Scooby doo: curse of the lake monster I enjoyed them the the other Scooby doo movies Scooby was kind of fake looking but I enjoyed them better the the live action theater movies. I won both of them on dvd

Those were pretty horrible. Even worse that the theatrical films if it can be believed.

This needs, as mentioned, a director who knows the balance between spooky atmosphere and family comedy. It's got to strike the right tone like other family-friendly horror films like Ghostbusters, Beetlejuice and Gremlins. Even Monster House.

Hot Hollywood Trend: Two Scripts, One Movie
Warner Bros. and Universal double-booked writers to take first passes on separate drafts for "Tarzan" and "The Mummy," respectively.
Borys Kit said:
Are two heads truly better than one? Warner Bros. hired writers Adam Cozad and Craig Brewer to each pen separate scripts for Tarzan, now in preproduction with Alexander Skarsgard and Margot Robbie starring. The studio preferred Cozad's action and structure elements and Brewer's characterization, so it fused both drafts. (Cozad now is working with director David Yates to finalize the film.)

And Tarzan isn't alone. Universal's The Mummy reboot also had two scribes, Jon Spaihts and Billy Ray, working concurrently before the studio focused on Spaihts' draft. Warners simultaneously is developing a live-action Scooby-Doo reboot, with a script by Randall Green, and an animated theatrical feature. Executives and agents say double hirings are on the rise partly because of the demands of the tentpole era. Dates for movies often are set while projects still are in development, creating urgency to move fast. And with reboots and reimaginings, studios sometimes ask for multiple takes before jigsawing the scripts together.

"It's not an epidemic, but it's definitely a newer phenomenon," says one studio-based exec. And it's not going away anytime soon. Insiders say that Warners also is using the method for its supersecret DC Comics projects.

It's not new. Singer did the same with the development of the X2 scripts. It's a good idea if you can afford the resources and if the outcome is healthy.

I wouldn't say its darker at all

Mystery Inc. was kind of a prequel reboot meta thing.

If the character Vincent Van Ghoul makes a cameo in a upcoming live action Scooby Doo film. Liam Neeson should play the role. Since we can't bring Vincent Price back from the dead and all, and Neeson's the only actor I can see really filling Price's shoes.

Or Geoffrey Rush channeling his House on Haunted Hill Vincent Price-inspired character.

How would this animated movie differentiate itself from all the other straight-to-own animated movies?

The animated pic's been in the works for a while, but WB only announced the release date and director. It'll likely be in CG animation, rather than 2D animation like the other iterations.
