I just thought about it and love that both Sid and Gale were right.

''You'll slip. They always do." - Sidney to Jill
''This is what I'm good at! I solved these things three times!" - Gale to Dewey
''Wait...how did she know I was stabbed there as well?" - Gale to Dewey.

I love these two. God damn. <3

^^ I doubt Wes would even want to continue past 6.

If wes doesnt and god bless he's earned the right to say no when he wants too, Im sure some suit at new line wouldnt hesitate to give this man a call:

I'm just wondering what exactly Gale meant when she said she solved these things the last three times. She never guessed or figured out who the killers were in any of them. She did help piece together some clues, and make some correct hypothesis, like always believing in Cotton's innocence in S1, or figuring out the copycat pattern in S2, or helping solve some of the Rina Reynolds mystery in S3.

Perhaps that's what she meant because she never really "solved" the cases.

sometimes we as people over state our importance

If Uwe Boll ever stepped foot near this franchise, I'd shoot myself.

That was a huge mess up. It was the "opening song" in the actual Stab film in Scream 2. What were they watching during Stab A Thon, a director's cut of Stab with no opening song?

It's either apart of the film itself or it was in the theater playing. It's more likely the former.

Maybe they don't own the rights to it anymore?

But if this is the last one, it's fine. Great end to it. But I would by lying if I said I didn't want more. Because I am curious to see where they could go. Williamson he has two more, but I don't know what the hell they could be. I mean Williamson has always surprised us, so maybe he does have a great idea.

Of course, there's always the risk it sucking. But this had that risk too, and thankfully it didn't. I mean we're all afraid of it losing the strong streak its had. If there is an idea, I have confidence in Williamson and Craven.

but would you...SCREAM

hahaha, joking aside though if Wes deemed at some point he was done with this franchise and wanted to step away I think the studio would respect it and let it be. The 4th just ended on a logical and filling ending.

Im more anxious for another young talented director to come along with his own scream that could have the same cultural effect on the horror community. Im just so sick of the torture porn that is out now where we get no story or characters and just simply seeing random people being hacked and slashed. Movies like these are such a breath of fresh air because we atleast to get to know these characters before there throats get slashed and even build a connection. Thats why saw, ring, and hostel blew.

I just think that should be standard for any film genre, that you get to know and love the characters before you take them on whatever your genre has in store with them. That's probably why I like Scream, it's one of the few horror series that actually does that.

When Sid leaves Kirby in the basement on the call to save Charlie. The call happens, Sid runs upstairs to get Jill. Charlie is untapped and he stabs Kirby. Sidney when she doesn't find Jill goes back downstairs to the basement and hears a noise coming from there, she asks out for Kirby, but Charlie comes through the front door and grabs her leading up to Jill's reveal as the mastermind. What the **** was the noise in the basement? The house didn't previously loop around like that if I recall correctly, so she couldn't have been hearing Charlie coming in. Correct me if I'm wrong.

You got it, Thats why some of the great horror movies still hold up like halloween, were introduced to laurie early on in the story and we follow her for the rest of the picture getting to know her personality and so forth so that when michael comes after her and her friends at the end we actually care and are scared with her.

Hostel just opens with 3 buddies backpacking through europe and pulling trains on chicks and then all the sudden there being tortured, we dont care because we dont know anything about them, sure we know jay hernandez the actor but we dont know his character and motivation. But Eli Roth just thinks we should be scared and care when he starts getting screwdrivers through his leg and eventually gets revenge. Sorry it doesnt work like that, for all we know the 3 buddies are probably a bunch of dopeheads looking for some action and end up getting killed over it.

I think Eli Roth has actually went on record saying he had them being stereotypical *****es in the beginning of it, BECAUSE he wants us to cheer when they are getting mutilated and tortured and I'm just like ''Wait, a minute, *****es may be annoying people, but they are still people Eli. We should be rooting for people to live. Not to be murdered by the killer (s)."

That qoute from Eli actually offends me as a horror fan, we should never be rooting for the main heroes to be tortured and killed. God I hate him as a director but he was good in inglorious bastards, maybe he should just stick to acting. The only time in a horror movie when we root for a killing is when ethier the killer(s) get it or paris hilton or lindsey lohan die. j/k on the last part :awesome:.

I like that the last thing in the movie is the media praising [BLACKOUT]Jill[/BLACKOUT] for being brave and a survivor then the credits roll. I thought it was an interesting touch showing that the media loves a hero and how gullible the media really is. Plus, with the first one the movie ends with the media talking about the killers but this movie ends with them talking about the killer but they don't even know the person they are talking about is the killer. Nice little reversal.

Fixed that. I completely blanked on that. Damn, I am bad for that sometimes.

True, she never solved them singlehandedly but she did play a role in every case, and she was present for all 3 (and now 4) confrontations with the killers.

Anyone wish Tatum would get mentioned more? I always felt that Dewey never got a chance to properly mourn her. I think a lot of casual viewers even forget that they were siblings.

Wasn't the only time she was mentioned post-mortem when Stone made that cold-ass comment to Fake-Dewey?

Yes I wish Tatum was mentioned. I loved her to death (no pun intended?). She was alluded to, though not by name, when they talked about the "hot girl" getting slaughtered. Pretty sure that was essentially a reference to Tatum.

She was also mentioned in Scream 2 right before Randy's death. Gale says that there were other victims in Woodsboro before the grand finale, and mentioned Tatum along with Himbry and Kenny. She mentions it with sort of a lump in her throat and Dewey kind of turns away, and that's about as much mourning we were able to see out of him unfortunately.

For the record, I absolutely loved Scream 4. It was awesome.

One thing that this movie was missing was the classic Sidney punching Gale scene

How long do we have to keep using spoiler tags? Just curious...

I do think that would have made Scream 1 even better if there was just a moment that went like this:

We see (as in the film) Dewy run into the house when he sees the door open and the van empty. We then watch some of Gale and Sidney's chase scene with Ghostface.

Cut to scared, trying to act macho, Dewy going into the garage with his gun out. The camera is on a small crane and pulls back as we see in the above foreground Tatum hanging dead. Dewy lets the gun slump by his side and chokes out the word, "Tatum?!" his voice cracking. "Tatum?" We then hear a loud "jump scare sound" and cut to a tight close up of Dewy turning around.

Then cut to the end of Sidney's running and she heads back towards the house where she and the audience see Dewy slump out of the doorway moaning "Sid?" as he collapses with the knife in his back.

Audiences felt bad when Tatum died because they liked her and the relationship she had with Dewy and her mother in the few scenes humanized her more than almost any slasher victim in a film to that point (though Randy surpasses her in the sequel). They also were really sad to see Dewy hurt. Bringing back that human connection where it isn't just a FT13/Halloween dead body reappears in the third act with Tatum, but actually her brother finding her and then seemingly dying....it would have made the film even better by adding real hints of tragedy to it there like at the beginning when Casey sees her parents right before she dies and they can hear her last breaths of agony on the phone.

My thoughts.

I wouldn't categorize The Ring with torture porn. A remake? Yes, but it is PG-13 and relies on style, suspense and atmosphere. The sequel was cheesy, but the first film I found very scary the first time I saw it and one of the previous decade's best horror film entries.

I also liked the first Saw because it was almost entirely character development other than the last 5 minutes of the movie and a flashback montage to some of Jigsaw's other victims at the top of the movie, it is just two guys essentially sitting in a room talking it out. It relied on grizzly torture for the scares, but the movie was character based. Then the sequels just became torture porn and they made I don't know how many (the last one I saw was Saw 3 and after that I was done with the franchise as it was clear it was just going to become more of a snuff film with each entry). Same goes for Hostel, never saw Hostel II though because it looked even more repulsive than the first to me.
